My dog will eat anything, but I try to be selective. My vet, as well as the folks from the rescue, advised me to avoid grain-free food, as he has no trouble with grains. I didn't want to go with just *any* grains, so I did a lot of research. My research led me to Open Farm! My guy gets a mix of Open Farm Ancient Grains salmon and a little bit of another brand's raw food... just to fancy things up a little bit. But here's the reason I'm even writing a review: At some point, after starting my dog on a fish oil supplement, I wanted to change his protein to chicken from salmon. My local pet store only carried the grain-free turkey and chicken variety and suggested another high-quality brand with good grains. The other brand, who I won't mention, was fine.. my pet store is selective about which brands they'll carry! But the ingredient list was a lot longer than Open Farm's. I eased him into his new food and kept him on it for a few months. Even after the adjustment period, my dog's poops were not as solid and healthy-looking as they were when he was eating Open Farm. He also pooped way more than ever, even though I was keeping his calorie intake the same. So, I switched back to Open Farm.. although since I moved across town, I had to order it online because my *new* local pet store only carries the grain-free salmon, and his poops are back to normal! His coat is incredibly sleek, he has never had bad poop, never barfs it up, never turns it down. There are only two incredibly minor drawbacks--one is that his breath is really fishy after eating, and the second is that the seal on the bag sometimes detaches, making it hard to keep fresh. Anyway, I won't stray from Open Farm again. Seriously, if you're looking for a good-quality kibble that your dog won't turn down (and that won't wreck your dog's stomach like some other brands with "healthy" grains), don't hesitate to go with Open Farm. ... show more

My dog tends to turn down dry dog food until it's mixed w/wet food but she took this right out of the bag! I use her food for training & I can't w/most other dry food but I think I'll be able to w/this, which is great. The food itself is small bites which is perfect. I transferred the entire bag to containers & there were no crumbs/dust @ the bottom of the bag. I was feeding The Honest Kitchen kibble & loved it, as it's a high quality food but there was always 2-3 inches of powder/crumbs in the bottom of the bag - for a $25 4 lb. bag! The Open Farm food is $20 for 4 lbs., which I guess is still considered expensive but I didn't pay for 3" of disintegrated food. This food seems to be as close to quality of Honest Kitchen as I could possibility afford. So if my dog continues to like it, I'm sold on it. Very happy w/the puchase so far! ... show more

Listen. I’ve got a picky, opinionated four legged diva living with me. Following the normal procedure, I’ve been mixing her new food (this food) with her old food (wellness brand - senior) and this dog picks out every piece of her new food & avoids her old food like the plague. I was looking for an organic, healthy product for my bestie & ya know, I’m a millennial. Heck, I bought a house just so she could have a decent backyard. Awesome product! I have done a lot of research on dog food and openfarm seems to be one of the best products out there. My dog loves any flavor but I usually get him this one. They have whole ingredients and omit the harmful ones. Highly recommend.
