I did a lot of research trying to find a comfortable life jacket to kayak in. Issues w others ranged from not comfortable, no pocket, very expensive, not available in larger sizes, and more.... This was at the bottom end of the cost price range but had the following going for it: two large pockets, soft light material w plenty of room for arms that need to paddle, will fit a 3x guy like me (6'3" 300lbs) and yet the small fit my fiancee at 110lbs. I thought about giving only 4 stars because though wide enough to fit around my big belly, it as very short coming just to my belly button and looking very odd while I walk around, HOWEVER, I have to say, SHORT is what you WANT when you are sitting. Good quality, easy to adjust and good price. As it says USCG approved, I assumed this PFD is supposed to save ones' live. However, the instructions warn that you need to push your head back, so as not to have your face in the water. And warns that it is not suitable for someone who's unconscious. As I'm a good swimmer and only plan to use it, or at least have it on board, while kayaking or canoeing, it suits my needs. But for anyone who could panic in water, may have risks of seizures or plans to sail or do anything else that might lead to losing his/her consciousness; look for another one that will automatically get your face out of the water. ... show more

The nice thing about this vest is does not look like a typical boating vest. This will be used by my Dad as he trims weeds around his ponds; the fear is always that he could slip into the pond and have problems getting back up the steep banks. Aww dang. Adult Universal is kinda small. Shoulda gotten a bigger one. I have an average body and is 5'9" at 165lbs and it's a really tight fit. I hope it lasts.

I've used this vest 3 times now, on the Colorado River out of Willow Beach, at Kirch Wildlife Refuge (Adams McGill Reservoir) and at Cave Lake near Ely, NV. Each time the vest hasn't fit properly, the lower strap doesn't stay on the back part vest, it slides off and end up around your waist, it should either be higher up or have more straps to keep in in place, this causes the vest to ride high. Not a great design and don't think I would purchase another one. ... show more
