  • Good unit
Good unit. So far so good. The Bluetooth has been glitchy and sometimes gives me an issue linking up. It only happened a few times so I wouldn't base anything on that. I have this hooked up to two 12 inch Cerwin Vegas in my garage and my only issue is I feeling like it could use more power/wattage. Both my older receivers had more power. Overall it's a good buy just a hair on the pricey side for such a simple unit with moderate power. If you have the money buy it. If your on a budget you could find a cheaper unit that does the same. ... show more

  • Here's my story...
Update: many are having the same problem I now see; you want to use your TV remote to turn on/off this receiver - does not work! (At least with a Samsung TV). You run through the setup, in my case a Sony Blue Ray player, a 2023 55” Samsung TV, and the Amazon fire stick. During the setup, adding connected devices to the TV, the amp does turn off, or on after you identify the Onkyo receiver as a connected home theater, but that’s it - only does it once, never again. I’ve done it many times, selecting different Onkyo receivers, it doesn’t work. You have two sort-of solutions; 1) use the 20 minute no-activity setting and the AMP will turn itself off - then use the Onkyo remote to turn the amp back on or 2) disable the Onkyo receiver auto-off feature and leave the amp on all the time - I chose this option as i don’t want to use two remotes. **** I’ll update again if i find a solution, but in researching this, many have this issue when using a Samsung TV and this Onkyo amp. My first review is below: I set up a 5.1 a few years ago. Never really liked it if you did not play a 5.1 source. I used a mic to calibrate the speakers and while, I suppose, it was OK - I was never hooked on it. Fast forward to today - new TV's have lot's of HDMI ports, USB, Wi-Fi, ... and great pictures. I though, well, let's utilize the HDMI ports - so I bought the Denon DRA-800H. It was a nice AMP and I connected the HDMI out on the AMP to the HDMI in on the TV. Then I realized I only had 2 other HDMI inputs to the AMP - one from the DVD and one from the firestick. This worked, but the 800H was overkill for me. I assessed my needs again, I stream HBO, Disney, Netflix, .... which goes through the TV. All I really need is a optical cable from the TV out to an AMP "in". And I don't want 5-6-7.1 or 2, and no need for Wi-Fi on the AMP - which the Denon had - but no direct streaming to the AMP - which was a bummer. There were a few 2.1 amps out there and I decided to try this one as I really wanted to use ONE remote to control the firestick, the TV and the AMP. The Samsung TV remote does all 3. I was worried about the 8220 driving KEF Q150 bookshelf speakers - as this is for a downstairs 'play room' - and it's doing just fine at 45 watts. I am happy with the amp. I stream music 50% of the time via Spotify, via the TV or Amazon Echo - "Alexa play ??? on Spotify" and off it goes. Or I turn on the TV, go to the Spotify app, and play from there. I also liked the Sub woofer output as I have the old 5.1 sub from the old system, and it works great with this amp. So, I'm happy with the 2.1 system, listening to music and watching TV / streaming video. ... show more

  • It works, and sounds pretty good.
This review is on brand new item. So far pretty happy with this. I had a big roll of vintage pure copper 12-gauge speaker wire and some banana plugs and made the most solid speaker connections I've ever done. I have played some records and a few CD's on an Onkyo DX-C390 and it sounds very smooth. My Klipsch R-41M speakers are not made for much power and sound good with this rather underpowered receiver, which is just what I wanted. I also have an old subwoofer hooked up and it sounds good on the line inputs. That said, this receiver has nice bass and a subwoofer is not really needed in my opinion. Bluetooth connected to my phone, but that's all the Bluetooth I tried. Hoping I'll be reporting back that this receiver proves durable and works well for a long time. ... show more

  • Budget receiver with just enough good features
I am overall pretty happy with this receiver. It has a good mix of features and power for the price point. It's getting difficult to find regular stereo receivers in this age of multi-channel AV home entertainment systems. This one has a few line-level inputs for things like a CD player. It also has a phonograph input and a couple of digital inputs. It has a subwoofer output that you can connect to a subwoofer amplifier (it will not drive a passive subwoofer directly). At 45 W/channel, it's not going to blow anyone away but it's adequate for me. I have not used the Bluetooth functionality yet but I assume it works fine. ... show more

  • Simplicity
I needed a simple stereo receiver with phono inputs to set up my turntable and enjoy the simplicity of stereo sound without all the unnecessary extra channels than will not be used z

  • A basic stereo receiver
I’m very happy with this receiver. I was looking for a basic stereo with Bluetooth but didn’t want or need a home theater. This one has inputs for cd and turntable but no hdmi hookups. It’s simply for music or listening to podcasts or something. No video. I saved quite a bit on it compared to a cheap home theater unit. I plugged in a pair of Polk tower speakers and it sounds good. There are controls for bass and treble, but not dials. Just buttons with arrows pointing up or down. I think that’s pretty much standard these days. The Bluetooth is easier to use than my Yamaha system. It picks up the signal quickly and it’s simple to switch devices. I did notice some humming when I was using a Kindle Fire as a music source but it completely stopped when I switched to my iPhone. Not much to say about it after that. The remote is decent. Not tiny like some of the other ones I have had. ... show more
