The author takes a subject (selling one's soul to the devil) to a completely other level. It's something I have never considered before, and she presents it with a brilliance that is absolutely captivating. Darcie is a substitute soul, condemned to hell for murder. In hell's exchange program, she temporarily takes the place of souls who sign a deal with the devil and must pay the price of that "loan." When the person is finish with his or her payment, they return to their bodies and Darcie must return home to hell. During her time in each body, she has received background about the person she inhabits and conducts their daily business while the person's soul repays the debt for which they signed their deal. Until one day when things went terribly wrong, and Darcie is left wondering how to not break the rules and why she's unable to stop the seemingly unending cycle. What a clever and ingenious idea. And how she made the story unfold was masterful. And that cliffhanger ending... I cannot wait to see where this story leads next. ... show more

The overall premise was okay but it took awhile for the story to get moving. I found the main character's misuse of idioms (intentional by the author) very annoying.

Why sell your soul when it can be loaned instead? Now that's a marketing plan worthy of Hell! Darcie Rose is a soul operator. Taking possession of a body once a loan has been set up and acting as the individual, her job is simple. Right? Until it isn't. Going from casing to casing (loaned bodies) without advance information is tough, but Darcie makes the best of it. Hell is an interesting place in Author Carter's writing. Full of petty annoyances, you can't get somewhere until you've spent a long time traveling, and the place is full of paper cuts, ink spills, and more. And bureaucracy. Loads of that. The book is entertaining and fast moving - Darcie's muddled idioms are fun and a bit Yogi-ish. ... show more

    • One Hell of a Ride!
Darcie Rose is an exciting new take on possession, selling one’s soul to the devil (or rather, loaning it 😉), and acting. (You’ve gotta read the book to fully understand that last one!) The story is fast paced, tugging you in every which direction, you never quite know where it’s going until the end. A definite page turner. The idea of loaning your soul, and a deceased resident of Hell taking over your body during that time, with that resident as the main character, is an exciting one to explore. Darcie is a fantastic character, just doing her best to get the job done. I especially like her messed up idioms. Also, a reanimated lizard and fox to add the ‘Aw!’ factor 😍 I’ve never read anything quite like One Loan Soul before, and I’m excited to see where the series goes! ... show more

This Creepy Cute Adventure down the supernatural rabbit hole with Darcie is full of the Dark sarcastic humor that I truly love! Darcie is a sassy little spitfire, funny, fabulously fierce N endearingly unable to stay out of trouble. I was completely captivated through out the entire story never a dead moment. hehe 😉 I'm dying to learn more about this exciting new series as always L.B.     • Not my cup of tea
I had mixed feelings about this book. The story line was good, the characters were great. I just found this book to be drawn out. To the point that I would be loving it one chapter and bored the next. I have never read any other book from this author so I don't know if it's just this book or her writing style, or maybe it was my lack of interest. I however found the book to be kind of confusing at times. I did not hate the book but I did not love it either. I'm sure there will be lots of people who will love it. I don't even know where to start without giving away spoilers. So I won't lie it took me a while to finish this book. The SOLE ( Soles on Lone Exchange) kinda through me off becuase there is a mishap and Darice is jumping body to body so I had to go back and reread some pages just to make sure I didn't miss something. Lol But I am glad I did, because this book was exciting. It has a lot of suspense and drama. This book is most definitely worth reading the Author L.B. Carter left me wanting more of Darice Rose. ... show more

“One Loan Soul” is a very interesting book. Darcie is a soul in Hell and is part of the Devil’s soul team. She temporarily replaces living souls who is making a deal with the Devil and while the living soul is making the deal she gets a break from Hell. All goes well until she has a problem and begins to jump from casing to casing. (casing are the bodies of the living souls she temporary replaces). Author, L.B. Carter does a great job writing this story and keeping you on your toes. Darcie’s gets thrown into some really tough situations and it’s very entertaining to read how she tries to deal with them. The last of the book leaves you wanting more. Book two cannot come fast enough. I’m very interested to see how Darcie handles her next adventure. ... show more
