  • really fun to play on - great portable standalone
I bought on another marketplace but have had for a week now. I upgraded from a ddj-flx4. I wanted a standalone unit that I could easily take with me around the city and also on vacation. I was tired of needing to set up my laptop + power, usb cable, and ddj-flx4 to get up and running. Pros: very portable easy to mix on great build quality excellent sound quality responsive touch screen easy to use UI all you need is a USB rekordbox export link over wifi Cons: expensive compared to other 2 channel standalone mixers many workflows now require at least 2, sometimes 3 or more taps that used as of 9/9/24 and firmware 1.04 still no streaming music via soundcloud, beatsource, tidal... Bugs I've found: On 1.04 firmware, master track selection is automatic only and does not release until you pause w/e track is master. ... show more

  • Not a good product
After using this product over a year, I can tell this was the worst investment in my life. Stick with Pioneer, Alpha Theta is not the future I am afraid. Both the software and hardware has issues, it's still heavy, and bulky. This is a very expensive toy for kids, not for adults or professionals.

  • Unreliable, overpriced and unprofessional piece of ...
I'm a professional DJ and musician who relies on gear to make my cash, and this is a DJ platform that I have not been able to rely upon for gigs. It's a shameful product for Alpha-Theta to release, especially as they need to reinforce their brand identity as they reboot it. First off the good news - yes it is battery powered but this comes with a downside I'll get into later. The battery power and form factor make it amazingly portable for an all in one device. It's a lot smaller and lighter than my trusty XDJ-RX2 this was meant to replace. It's nice that is has multiple outputs and a separate booth control. Also the performance pads, faders and buttons feel great. Some may not like this new performance pad feel as its a lot more stiff than expected, but I like it personally. The jog wheel feels like a controller and not a cdj, but it does have nuance and sensitivity to it more so than the basic controllers out there. I also love the SD card slot, although I don't love it coming at the expense of a USB port. Now for the downsides - first off this unit is plainly unreliable with it's battery. I own dozens of devices with lithium batteries inside, and for some reason this is the only device that slowly drains battery while it's completely off and in the case. The battery will leak from 100% to 30% over the course of a couple weeks while it is fully unpowered and in a case. So when you pull it out you will need to plug it in - defeating the entire purpose of having a portable battery powered console. This is a result of cheap and corner cutting component selection by the manufacturer. This is inexcusable on a device that costs $1500. Denon somehow manages to make an equivalent device at 2/3 of the price that is super solid in this way. Turning the unit on at every gig has always caused a temporary panic as at first the unit will not read any import sources. Cycling the power will eventually make it work but this has put me into a temporary panic at any gig I've been to. Its nerve wracking to consider that the device may not work when you bring it to a gig. And this would reflect on my reliability as a professional if it failed to work. This unit has been scaled down in features to essentially be a toy. There's Moreso of a preference to keep the unit minimal in its layout than give a DJ a full set of tactile features they should expect from a leading company in the field. In the interest of simplifying the design and saving cost on buttons and faders we are missing some key performance features like having a physical way to select the Beat FX destination, having a back button (this is a travesty!), Mic EQ, Master Out Cue (Another travesty!!!), and search buttons. Sure there are ways to get each of these functionalities via the touch screen, but its isn't nearly as practical or tactile to do so. Bottom line = Your performance as a DJ is compromised on this unit for the sake of making the look of this thing more inviting to beginner DJs and saving manufacturing cost on needed rotary knobs and buttons. With regards to sound, this unit sounds worse than my XDJ-RX2. The sound card seems more compressed and digital sounding. Also the filter parameter does not have a resonance control either via touchscreen menus or as a real knob. The filter sounds terrible and toy like with the resonance stuck where it is. Makes any track sound like 128kbps mp3s when you engage the filter. A serious corner was cut here, which would be fine for a sub $1000 controller, but not at this price point. There's been plenty of glitches that have been resolved with firmware updates, but fundamentally the updates could be doing so much more. Overall anyone looking for a serious DJ all in one console should look elsewhere. This is a novelty and a cute toy console. An all too expensive toy at that. If you want portability get a portable AC power battery box for $150-200. You don't need a big battery to power an XDJ all in one console for many hours. Meanwhile this thing lasts for maybe 4 hours if your battery hasn't already suspiciously drained while the unit has been powered off. I was hopeful that firmware updates would improve this unit, but after 9 months the improvements have been minimal. 2 stars is merited, I couldn't give this one or zero since it still does work as a DJ console. If this was priced at $750 I'd give it maybe 3.5 - 4 stars, but at this price point of $1500 we have to expect a professional level of quality and feature set. A poor offering from Alpha Theta, hopefully they update this unit to make it a proper portable unit. Until then, off grid DJs should look to powering their gear with a portable AC box or resorting to a laptop/controller setup. ... show more
