Update: These shoes have broken in and no longer hurt my feet! Yay! They became the shoes I’d hoped they would be. :) Original review: These flip flops generally feel good once I sized up a size, but over time the leather between your toes rubs and hurts, versus the cloth I am used to from my other pair. I hope they eventually soften and break in!

Loved the black patent leathers so much I ordered the gold too! I think they are elegant and sexy... They dont have the look of "orthopedic, comfort, middle age flip flops" I usually wear hokas or oofoos. The Olukais are definitely not as cushiony as those. However those are called "recovery sandals" for after workouts and they are certainly not pretty like these. These have a firm sole, not flimsy at all. The arch support is fine, not excellent but satisfactory for plantar faciitis feet like mine. The soles have excellent grip! As other reviewers have said, the size runs slightly small. I wear an 8.5 so sized up 1/2 size, a 9 fits me perfectly. If you are looking for a pretty option in flip flops that are better for middle age feet I would reccomend. I wore them right out of the box with no break in period.

Bought these a year ago, I live in North Africa and wear these all day, 24/7 during the summer. Pictured here during a week of trekking in the Sahara. Y'all, these are indestructible. I have really high arches, so most shoes/sandals are way too flat and give me searing pains in the arch and foot pain after walking for a short time. I do 3 miles a day, every day in these, to the market and farm and back, and zero pain. Wore them hiking in the Atlas mountains, wading through rivers, no issues. Wear them constantly to the beach, including in the water, they handle rocks, water, salt, sand, everything, and still look brand new. Never any smells like some brands. I can't praise these highly enough, I recommend them to everyone I meet, and won't be buying any other sandals or flip-flops for life.

Olukai is the only brand of flip flop I wear. I have several pair of Ho’Opio and particularly like this model. Not all versions of Olukai fit the same. This one has a very low arch and a thin sole. It is also medium width so if you have a wide foot this is probably not for you. It feels like walking in bare feet so you will feel whatever you step on (like a small stone). I mostly have the synthetic version because I can wear them on the beach and get them wet. I also prefer the cloth toe post: the leather version has a leather toe post and I don’t find that as comfortable. With frequent use they usually last me about 3 years before the foot bed starts breaking down. I also wore them when I had plantar fasciitis and it reduced the pain better than my Brooks Ghost sneakers.
