  • A Must-Have for Retro Gaming Fans!
This gaming console is absolutely fantastic! If you've been longing to relive the golden age of NES gaming but don’t want to break the bank on an original system, this is the perfect alternative. I’m beyond thrilled to dive back into the classic titles of my youth—they look incredible on my 1995 Sony CRT TV, just like I remember! And for those wondering… yes, the legendary Contra cheat code for 30 lives works like a charm. If you're a retro gaming enthusiast, don’t hesitate—grab this console now! ... show more

  • Great at playing NES games but...
Poor build quality on the plastic parts of the console. The plastic piece on the spring loaded cartridge door broke as soon as I touched it. And I BARELY touched it! Not that big of a deal for me, but it was a pretty bad first impression and probably would be a deal breaker for some. It could also potentially cause further damage if the broken pieces fell into the 72 pin connector and you tried to put a game in. I shook out 2 tiny plastic broken pieces and a spring and checked that there were no obstructions before using it. Aside from that, I love this thing. It does a great job playing every NES game I've tried on it. It even plays my worn out carts that are very difficult to get working on my original NES. Unlike a lot of other clone systems, this one has pretty good sound. It's not perfect but I haven't come across anything jarring yet. It also doesn't have a death grip on the cartridges like other clone systems. It holds them pretty firmly but not so much that I'd worry about it damaging the contacts on the cartridge. The games look great on my giant HDTV. I'm very sensitive to lag and there seems to be just a tiny bit of lag with this thing compared to playing my original NES on a CRT or even original NES connected to the same HDTV. But it's so minimal, most people probably wouldn't notice it. Games are still 100% playable, even ones that require very fast reaction. If the cartridge door hadn't fallen apart, I'd have given it a perfect score. I took a picture but the Amazon app won't do anything when I click to attach a picture. ... show more

Works like the original console!

  • This is the best budget clone NES
This is the only budget clone NES I was able to find with a switch for 4:3 aspect ratio. That alone makes this a no-brainer for me, unless you like playing really stretched out NES games, or messing with your TV settings every time you want to play a game. Personally, I do not. The Classiq N comes with both HDMI and AV connections so you can even play on your old CRT. Even the high end AVS is missing this obvious feature. The controllers that come with the system feel like a solid replacement for the original NES controllers, complete with the razor sharp corners and the good ol' D-pad thumb-burn. I'm sure you can find more ergonomic alternatives, but the included controllers really take me back to the originals. I was going to take off 1 star for a couple reasons but I decided not to because I honestly feel like this is the best choice for a budget NES clone. The first issue I had with the system is it is kind of difficult to remove cartridges when you first get the console. After some use this problem went away. Maybe use Jaws or something to break in the system and save Contra the wear and tear. As other reviewers have stated, the sound isn't perfect, but it isn't bad, at least as far as I've heard. The Classiq N sounds different from the sound the original NES produced but it has not stopped me from enjoying the games at all. I do also have one cart that won't seem to work with the system. I bought a second copy that was stated as "tested and working" but just shows a grey screen in the Classiq N. It could be a compatibility issue or I just got unlucky with 2 copies of the same game. However every other game I own worked on the first try. I also want to mention the system comes with a USB power supply, power cable, HDMI cable, and an AV cable when Old School could have easily cheaped out here and not included any of this stuff. Anyway, I recommend going with this option if you are looking for an NES that will work on a modern television. I have only had mine for a couple weeks so I can't say if there are any long term issues with the system or the controllers but I'll try to update here if anything. ... show more
