I'm trying to go "peat free" in my seed starting mix. I bought this product to mix with a peat free mix when starting seeds this spring. It mixed well and my seeds germinated and grew nicely. It was a bit pricey for the amount but I was in a pinch and needed some good compost.

So far the product is as advertised. No bad scent, no water at the bottom of the bag, the right amount of moisture so the compost isn't too dry. From the photo on the product listing, I was expecting a box twice as tall as the one I received. The box I received is 4.5 inches tall. The 10-pound box is for 7 quarts. I should have spent the extra $8 and ordered the 12-quart box of compost. It's a bit deceptive to use weight for one item (10 pounds for a 7-quart box) and quantity for another of the same product (12 quarts with no weight in the main title). But now I can't locate the 12-quart listing anywhere, even in the Old Potters store on Amazon. I'll be using this sparingly and supplementing with soils from my local hardware store. ... show more

This is more expensive than the compost at box stores, but is worth it! A very rich blend compared to the wood chips and sand that others are selling as ‘compost.’ I have ordered a few bags this year and they have all been consistently excellent.
