I don't often get meal kits like this, as quite often I can do "better" by using what ingredients I might already have, buying whatever I don't, and jazzing things up in ways that I might not think of when following instructions. Still, this is a decent kit to get a meal started with when you don't want to have to think too much about it. This kit comes with tostadas, taco sauce, queso sauce, and taco seasoning, so there are still a few ingredients you will need to have or buy, like ground meat, shredded cheese, and at least a tomato for topping. Of course, you can mix in or add whatever other ingredients or toppings you want, but going too far kind of defeats the purpose of the kit, in my mind. Following the instructions will net you six self-styled, fairly tasty Mexican pizzas with minimal fuss beyond browning the meat - though you could avoid even that by simply warming up some refried beans instead. This can be a versatile kit if you want to get extra, but honestly? I think if you get much fancier, you might as well buy ingredients piecemeal so you can get exactly what you want. Go for the inexpensive store-brand items and you're not spending about the same per serving as this kit. Or, upgrade the stuff that matters to you and splurge on the toppings. This is not a complicated meal idea; Any decent grocery store will have everything you need, and you'll have enough to make at least another meal or two of it. That said, if you want to go easy and basic, this is a good way to do it. It's not overly expensive for what you get, and what you'll make with it will be enjoyable. ... show more

    • Nice kit for a change of pace from tacos
I like Old El Paso meal kits because they're convenient and I don't have to keep a lot of different ingredients on hand. This pizza one was a little different from the typical taco ones so I decided to try it. I found that the finished pizza tasted good - I only used ground beef, a little onion and then added tomato and cilantro after cooking. The Mexican pizzas are easy to put together and the kit comes with cheese sauce, seasoning and taco sauce to get you started. You do need to add meat and you can customize with your own ingredients depending on what you like or happen to have available. I liked the taste of the cheese sauce and I've always been a fan of the spice mix. I think this could be a fun meal to make with kids since everyone can customize their own pizza. They do take a little longer to prepare than regular tacos since they have to be baked, but I didn't mind the extra time because it was a change of pace. Be aware that the cheese sauce isn't resealable, so you'll want to plan on making the entire kit at once rather than saving part of it for another meal. Overall, this is an easy and convenient meal kit that tastes good and can be customized in a lot of different ways. I would get it again when I wanted something a little different from regular tacos.
