My favorite modern artist is Trevor Chamberlain. While he's mainly admired for his breathtaking watercolor pieces, he's quite accomplished in oils as well. Of course I wish that Chamberlain had collaborated in a watercolor instructional text, but so far as I'm aware this is the one and only instructional he's ever been a part of. So if you admire the man and want to pick his brain, this book is all you get. The book is long out of print and typically sells used for as much as $100 or more on Amazon. Demand for it is pretty high. So when I saw a seller offering it for ten bucks, I clicked "add to cart" so fast I almost set my mouse on fire. I haven't even received it yet but I'm very much looking forward to it and can't wait for it to get here. Like I said, if you are a fan of Chamberlain's work, and you'd like something instructional rather than just descriptive, this text is the only one. He is truly one of the greatest of modern artists, and has no superior in the realm of watercolor. He really is as good as it gets. ... show more

i'd recommend this to anyone new to plein air and/or oil painting. basic basics without complications by a couple of english guys who are both excellent artists. not the overly academic stuff you get in so many art instruction books. no complicated color theories and rules. you want to paint? go paint. this book is probably of value to anyone at any skill level. ... show more

There exists no better book on painting than this! Chamberlain's briush is loaded with magic AND HE MAKES EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL! Years ago I had a series on the most delightful dreams--in them th whole world was a place of enchantment--every object was full of light and life, supremelky valuable, endlessly fascinating--a pebble by the sid pf the road was worth a universe, a weed was part of a gorgeous tapestry.
