    • Don't be overweight.
I know being a little heavier is going to help you get these into some harder ground, but you REALLY should be fit to use these, in order to reduce the risk of injury. If you have a lawn that ranges on both extremes of really hard and compact dirt, to super soft soil and green grass, your new spike shoes are going to keep you guessing on how to walk with what kind of pressure. If you're overweight or obese, you definitely want to be careful on these. One wrong step and you can kiss your ankle goodbye. I walked all over my quarter acre yard, with ease on soft soil, and with great effort and stomping on compact and dry dirt, and there were a couple of times where even I got nervous my ankles might pay for it the next day. Do yourself a favor if you don't exercise regularly: get a friend to walk your yard for you, or rent a machine to do this job for you. ... show more

I'll tell you this concept of aerating your yard with these types of shoes can work the only thing I was concerned after trying them out was that there were certain marks on the green plastic that indicated one of these nails might break out and crack the entire base. I don't think I was walking with much of a rolling walk because they're pretty firm like Frankenstein so you kind of have to kind of stomp as you walk period got to be careful because I've read reviews that you can twist and hurt yourself and negligence may lead to that happening. I just wish that the plastic tray that these nails were screwed on was a little bit tighter and that maybe they used like loctite or something that would let the bolts stick onto the nails longer because I found myself having to tighten them after less than rigorous use on very small square footage tested. I bought these aeration shoes to do my front and back yards, well less than 10,000 sqft. They fit well with large boots and remain sturdy with sturdy shoes. The spike shoes are like walking in heels, and if the soil is moist, the dirt clumps up making it even harder to walk and you have to stop and remove the dirt. This shoe is used for spike aeration, not hole aeration like a machine provides. ... show more

I thought I was taking a risk trying it on the lawn with hard packed clay in April after months of rain. I thought there might be a muddy mess so I put vegetable oil on the spikes. The velcro-type spikes worked great for size 11 boots. I used a pitchfork like a hiking pole to walk. Soon I was moving in a slow walk, living my feet straight up. I did the whole small lawn. I only picked up some mud (that I kicked off) in a muddy place, not where the grass was. The aerator shoes look very sturdy, have extra holes for more straps (I was fine with the ones that were included). Extra spikes were included in case any fall off. It only took a little more time than mowing the lawn. I recommend. ... show more
