  • Very detailed
Format: Kindle
One thing I want to clarify is that this book is not about designing a tiny home. The title is slightly confusing. This is more like a tiny home energy audit, with a bit of home organization mixed in. The steps are very detailed and the reasoning behind them is explained well. It takes you through all the systems of your home and helps you with energy efficiency, water efficiency, space efficiency, etc. This is probably not a book for daydreamers. It is for people who are ready to take concrete actions. If you follow the steps included here, I'm sure your tiny home will be improved. ... show more

  • A practical guide to sustainable living in a tiny space
Format: Kindle
With degrees in Architecture and Sustainable Design from Thomas Jefferson University Suvetha Ganesh is an expert in the field. Her book Off-Grid Tiny Home Design really shines as a practical guide to sustainable design and living in a tiny space. I picked this up because I have always been curious about living off-grid. Sustainability is not always affordable. Installing solar panels for your home requires an initial substantial investment on your part. One of the strongest aspects of the book is its realistic, actionable advice on the common frustrations tiny home owners face (wasted space, overloaded power systems, poor storage planning, uncomfortable temperatures, and inefficient water use) with practical solutions achievable without completely rebuilding a home from scratch. I, personally, found the sections on multifunctional layouts and reclaiming underused space particularly useful. The Fold, Slide, and Stack concepts encourage you to think creatively about every square foot of your home. Overall, Off-Grid Tiny Home Design is an excellent resource for tiny home owners, DIY renovators, and anyone interested in sustainable small-space living. It combines practical design thinking with real-world off-grid strategies in a way that feels empowering, achievable, and genuinely useful. ... show more

  • Very technical! Excellent, detailed knowledge!
Format: Kindle
My wife and I want to build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in our backyard but the yard isn't very big. A tiny home would be perfect! In addition, building it off grid would minimize our operating costs (we want to rent it) and maximize our cash flow. This book gives the tools to make the tiny home completely independent of city services! It gives a great deal of the technical knowledge required to do it in great detail. Just the electrical load calculation knowledge, coupled with advice on low-load appliances and light sources is very valuable! I recommend this book if you're planning on building or (retrofitting) an off grid tiny home, whether it's in your backyard or in the middle of nowhere! ... show more

  • Technical and informative
Format: Kindle
This convinced me that a tiny home is not for me! I have too many things that I am not willing to get rid of. If you are even remotely interested in the concept, this digs in and gives you charts, inspiration ideas, equations, and delves into the nitty-gritty of downsizing.

  • highly practical and slightly technical
Format: Kindle
Don’t let the title fool you—this isn't a fantasy book about building a dream house from scratch. It’s a nuts-and-bolts guide for people who already live in a tiny home and are tired of constant power spikes and wasted storage. It breaks down how to "audit" your small space, making every watt and drop of water count. It’s highly practical, slightly technical, and perfect if you're actually ready to renovate. ... show more

  • Although Very Difficult It Is Doable
Format: Kindle
I am nearly 64 and I have spent over 40 years as Civil Engineer in Land Development. There has been a lot of talk about tiny homes in the past decade. The problem with tiny homes is exactly that: tiny. You get out of bed stand up you are in the bathroom, walk two steps and you are in the kitchen, and then walk two more steps and you are in the living room/dining room. The only place to stretch out is outside. Yah, it fun and makes you feel like you doing something for the environment in the beginning. That feel wears off real quick. So as an engineer I am always looking for better ideas in Land Development. That is why I picked up this book. After reading the book I realize that it says the same thing I just said. First step, get rid of everything you own (massive downsizing). Minimize power and water usage. Then replace anything with products that can be used in multiple ways. I think tiny homes works for some people, but for most it is an absolute no. ... show more
