  • Odies Oil WORKS on ButcherBlock!!!
FINALLY!! After using several different products on my butcher block countertop, Odies is the only one that actually finished it!! I tried mineral oil, that was a mess and didn't last a month, I tried a few popular oil/beeswax blends, that didn't last more than a couple weeks either, and it did allow mold to grow under it. It took me quite a long time to sand that down enough to bleach out the mold/mildew stains. At that point I was just completely disappointed and felt I had made a mistake getting butcher block. I really didn't want to use one of those varnish type finishes due to my heating vent being directly over the counter, and having a dog. I didn't want a countertop with dog hair stuck in the finish. My last ditch effort after completely sanding down the countertop was to use Odies Oil. I personally don't care for the smell, but it dissipated in about 2 hours. It's easy to use, but you do need to put some elbow grease into it. Worth the effort! I followed the directions carefully and was rewarded with a beautiful finish that still looks today, just like it was the day I applied it about 6 weeks ago. Pic 1 was the night I finished applying Odies. Pic 2 and Pic 3 are today, Water still beads up! It really does harden up with time. It leaves a nice sheen and let's the beauty of the wood shine thru. It doesn't change the color much either. I hope it darkens with time to match my cabinets better. I figure with continued use of my countertop, I may have to re-apply a coat of Odies, but I'm fine with that. There was plenty left over after 2 coats. I used less than 1/4 of the jar. Great product! ... show more

  • Love this product!!!
Love this product. Refinished our kitchen table. So easy to use. Don't need to wear gloves. Smells good. Make sure to remove previous wood finish. I use a sander with 80, 120 and 220 sandpaper. Remove all the dust with lint free rag and apply the oil. Bought the applicator pads. Need to apply a small amount at a time. Watch videos on YouTube. My table has soft wood and is very old. Made it look so much better. ... show more

  • Great product
Have used this on live edge kitchen island, end tables and benches. Food safe, easy to use just don't apply to much, you will just waste the product. Provides a great finish. Months later it will need a touch up due to surface use but brings the finish back with little effort. Highly recommend it for wood and more. This container last a long time. ... show more

  • Great food safe finish
I really like this oil. It gives a really nice finish to your project and is fairly easy to apply but it does take a little more work to buff off but well worth it. I have been using it on bowls and cutting boards. I suggest watch a video on application and you can't go wrong. Good stuff a little expensive but I will continue to keep using it. ... show more

  • The best finishing product ever. Unbelievable. Works on anything.
This stuff is amazing. If you go to their web page they have videos outlining application and rubout, however if you get creative with this stuff the sky is the limit. Here are some unsanctioned things I do with it on figured wood: 1) thin it 50/50 with "Odie's Safer Solvent" and it will penetrate a lot deeper. They call this "Odie's Super Penetrating Oil." 2) if you heat the wood as you are applying it the results can be even better. 3) You can tint the stuff. 4) Apply with a gray pad. If finishing a floor or flat surface use the credit card like they say. It smells good too, which every single person who uses it will probably comment on. Test on scrap!!! You are not getting this off if things go awry unless you sand very, very deep. Not a great idea to do that much sanding on veneers! BTW: I used it on a quilt maple veneer and it penetrated so deeply that I can pretty clearly make out the mahogany back under all the 3d and holographic figuring. I used it on an unfinished wooden box, and the top coat migrated all the way to the box's bottom. This stuff spreads and penetrates like you have never seen. I like the label too. Super cool. The only downside is that this stuff is a bit expensive- but it really, really stretches. One jar could last a while for the typical hobbyist like me. ... show more

  • Easy to use and smells nice but not much sheen.
easy to use! I put two coats of Odies oil on a river table. It was easy to apply. I followed the directions pretty carefully and buffed my heart out. The outcome was ok but not what I hoped for. The wood was walnut and while Odies highlighted the grain it did not have the depth I've achieved with Osmo and with General Finishes hard wax oil. After 24 hours I applied a coat of paste wax to give the project a little shine but it did not help. The product is good but I was hoping for more. ... show more

  • Follow the instructions
Terrific product. I am an amateur woodworker, making projects for my home. I recently built a large table for family gatherings. The table (shown) is made primarily of a very hard exotic wood called ipe. I did not want to finish it with polyurethane, as I feel that finish is too plasticy. After much research I landed on Odie's Oil. The product is very easy to use. I did watch a YouTube video about the application, which helped. The product is applied to the surface in a thin coat. After an hour wait you just buff it off with an old towel. The surface is smooth and durable. It does not require multiple coats or any other special treatment. I was worried about this table, as I spent many hours making it and spent over $1000 on materials. It is impervious to moisture and rings from wet glasses so far. I recently used this product again on some small side tables for my front porch. I sort of went off label (the tables were made from shop scraps) and tried Odie's Oil over flat paint on pine. The sheen is excellent. Overall this is an easy product to work with. I would recommend it for many household woodworking projects where a durable but elegant finish is desired. ... show more

  • Pretty darn great!
This is a fantastic product for those of you (like me) who hate an "applied topical" finish. This stuff smells awesome, penetrates the surface and leaves a silky smooth result that's in the wood, not on the wood. It seems expensive, but it goes a loooong way.
