  • 10/10 game! Beautiful, fun, engaging story, great characters and fun gameplay
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I got this after seeing how excited everyone was. I hadn’t played the first one, and that’s totally fine because this game is completely self contained. I had no issues understanding anything and the stories were completely within this game. I did go back and buy it lll the first one play after this one because I loved this one so much. As a woman, I wanted to play with my main character as a female protagonist. Sometimes I find that hard to do in games because female roles are relegated to background roles like healers or mages or just some “sexy” support role. This game (and the first) have actually viable female leads. They have interesting stories, backgrounds, powerful moves and abilities. I actually had a hard time choosing a main character to focus on, all the male and female characters are EXCELLENT. The beauty of this game is it is somewhat linear but no 2 playthroughs will be exactly the same. The combat is so much fun. It’s a turn based jrpg but it isn’t nearly as boring as it sounds. The graphics are stunning. You might think 2D sounds low quality or have the idea that pixel art couldn’t be immersive… and you’d be wrong. The game is just gorgeous visually. I’m blown away by what they were able to do with 2D pixel art. This is taking the 2D turn based pixel art games from our previous youth and turning them up to 11 and seeing them in ways we never thought possible. Amazing game. I haven’t played the first one but I’ve only heard that this one is better. Even if you haven’t played the first and you want to try this, please do. You won’t regret it. I wish I could rate it higher. I haven’t completed it yet but I don’t need to in order to know that I love it. ... show more

  • The Greatest Modern JRPG Series Gets a Phenomenal Sequel
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
This game is a must play for anyone who loves turn-based RPGs. Gameplay: It's so deliciously strategic. Finding the right party with a perfect balance of skills is very fun. It's all about exploiting enemy weaknesses. Every encounter will get your brain going to make it as optimal as possible. Story: While I loved the way all 8 stories ended up connecting in the first game a bit more than how it did in this one, it's still amazing. Each of the 8 characters is so infinitely loveable that you can't not root for them. You'll also fall in love with the side characters. And even every NPC has their own bit of story! Graphics: The HD pixel graphics originated in the last game hold up and are just as good. Music: Absolutely phenomenal. One of the best soundtracks of any game in the past decade. Play this game! ... show more

  • A gorgeous game
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I can’t praise this game enough. I never played the original game before, so I started with this one. I usually love beautiful games, rather than boss fighting, so I was initially attracted to this game based on the reviews praising how beautiful it is. After playing it for almost two months, I just completed the story today, it was such a wonderful adventure for me. I watched the Ending Credits made with personalized cutscenes from those moments I had with the 8 travelers, how unique and thoughtful it is! It was a touching and warm-hearted ending, which made me almost cry. I don’t want to end the journey either, well said. I like the storylines of each character, I even start liking the boss fighting part which turns out to be quite tactical, especially the flight with Galdera was pretty challenging but made me better at utilizing each character’s talent and the job system. I am so glad I picked this game up, I hope the next sequel is coming soon! Thanks for those who made this game, especially during a tough time I am having! ... show more

  • Vast improvement over the 1st
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
Much better game overall from the first here are a couple of my takeaways: Combat system is everything the old one had, but with a few extra improvements most notably each traveler has "latent powers" that are exclusive to each one, you'll be introduced to each one of these on the first act of each of their stories and it makes party building with the same job system from the first game far more interesting. Boss fights are of course what sets this series apart from other rpgs and it doesn't disappoint, there are some very memorable, funny, and challenging fights. Lastly and probably the biggest improvement is the story, the biggest problem with the last game imo was each of the stories were pretty forgettable and honestly just plain boring. This time each of the stories have a lot more substance to them something a bit more than "this guys likes reading books, so he's the spell casting scholar" or "this guy is a nice and kind guy so he just heals people". I won't spoil anything but each character is fleshed out more. Also, each of the boss fights and the way the play out are often tied together with the story to make a truly unforgettable experience. If you even remotely like jrpgs get this now, it's essential. ... show more

  • An amazing game for the series
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
Hi! I got this game a while ago and didn't play it until a few weeks ago. It’s worth the money. I spent about 85 hours on it and am still looking to get 100% completion. The game art is gorgeous, with a unique feeling of a 16-bit game with a deep perspective. All the characters are super fun, and the day vs night path action is an upgrade from the first Octopath game. The story is something I played before in other games, but how they entangle the characters' paths is fantastic. If you are a hardcore RPG gamer, this is a must. If you are a casual player, try this game; you will enjoy it. ... show more

  • Good game.
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
A very well crafted JRPG, with a wealth of cool and unique mechanics. I personally felt the separate stories a bit lacking, but fans of more story driven JRPG will get soooo much out of this game. Beautiful artwork and design really drive the unique stories and give them a much larger scale than their initial 2.5D art would let on. Overall a really good game, just not for me personally. ... show more
