  • Sleek, modern-looking, and powerful
Color: Matte Black
This is not your mom's blender; I should know, since I have owned my Mom's blender for years, and it was definitely due to be replaced. This nutribullet SmartSense Blender and accessories arrived very well packaged, encased in a sturdy illustrated box, with all contents individually wrapped, then protected and held in place by two custom-fit molded cardboard inserts above and below. Besides the 1400-watt motor base, the multiple accessories include a large clear plastic pitcher with built-in blades and a sturdy lid; a 32-ounce non-handled clear plastic cup; a 24-ounce handled clear plastic cup; 2 to-go lids for the cups; an extractor blade that fits both cups; a hollow-plastic tamper; a well-written and illustrated User Guide; and a nicely-illustrated, glossy-paper Recipe Guide. Also included is a 20% off coupon for Nutribullet products, a registration card, and a couple of quick-start guides. Overall, the unboxing presentation and experience is top-notch. The blender itself and all of the accessory pieces have an impressively robust build quality. The matte-black blender motor base is tall, sleek, modern-looking, and powerful. It's base features two lenticular silicone suction cups up front and two stippled silicone feet in the back to prevent sliding. A power button below the control panel illuminates when plugged in. When the blender is turned on it illuminates the well laid out and easily legible control panel above, greeting the user with a friendly "Hello" (or "Bye" when it is turned off). The display of messages, speeds and timer is presented in a retro dot matrix digital print. The blender features five selectable speeds that can accommodate most any blending task. The speeds are alternated up/down with "+" and "-" buttons on the edges of the display. Once the speed is selected the "blend" button is pressed to start blending, which also initiates a timer that counts up so that one can track the length of blends. Alternatively, the pulse button allows hands-on control of blending time. There is also an "Auto" smart cycle option that senses ingredient load and automatically adjusts speed, time, and function to deliver the smoothest possible results. Although I've tested the Auto mode, I prefer a more hands on control of a blender. As expected, the loudness of the blender increases with the speed settings, with setting five putting out some impressive decibels that could wake the house. The main pitcher is quite sturdy, marked with volume scales on both sides; one side has markings up to 64 ounces / 8 cups, and the other side displays liter / max 1850 milliliters. Neither of the cups have volume scales. When attaching the pitcher or cups (with extractor blade attachment) to the blender's motor base, both lock into place with a surprisingly gratifying click-lock. The lid of the pitcher is also impressive, featuring a three-layer ribbed silicone seal that grips the inside of the pitcher securely to prevent spillage when blending or pouring. The pour spout in the lid also has a leak-proof silicone gasket. It is noteworthy to mention that the blender and accessories take up considerably more countertop or storage space than my Mom's old blender from yesteryear. As such, I'll need to reorganize some of my cabinet space to accommodate them. But overall I'm very impressed with the nutribullet blender and the generous assortment of attachments. If you have the space, I could easily recommend this product. ... show more

  • Very powerful motor
Color: Gunmetal Gray
I make energy drinks to smoothies with this Nutribullet. When making smoothies this chews up the frozen fruit like nothing. I tried making a smoothie without milk due to a distraction. The frozen fruit chopped up well till it started to freeze to the sides of the mixing cup. I thought it was odd when it went through 2 sensing attempts instead of just once. I stopped it cleared the sides than added the milk and yogurt. Started again and everything worked out perfectly. Since the motor is very powerful, I have been adding more frozen fruit to make it thicker. The motor does not struggle but the 32oz mixing cup has loosened from the base and got extremely loud. I twisted the cup back in place and simply placed my hand on the top so it would stay in place for the remainder. Overall, I love this mixer. The motor is very powerful and able to handle more than I have done. If you’re going to be crushing ice I have best luck with 1.5 cups at a time. Any more then that it can freeze to the walls and block the rest from getting to the blades. Keep in mind I keep my freezer between -10 F to -20 F. This might be the reason of freezing to the sides of the mixing cups. This was a part of my experience. ... show more

  • Competent blender
Color: Matte Black
A couple of months ago my expensive Jamba Juice blender stopped working. I watched a couple of videos on YouTube revealing common issues, repairs, and internal components. In my diagnosis, using a multi-meter, the blender had no issues powering up, the fuse was functional across the connection, everything was normal all the way to the control board. Nothing I did changed the non-operational nature of a blender fully powered and lit up. It was disappointing to toss a blender that saw infrequent use. Looking at all those similar blender internals online made me think these appliances are all made from semi-common parts with different molded plastic cases and branding. Looking at replacement blenders led to a relatively inexpensive Ninja blender, for which I have some thoughts of comparison with this NutriBullet. My most typical use is making frozen drinks with frozen fruit, ice, and liquids. For this Nutribullet, the construction is solid. The accessories are typical and appreciated. Lots of plastic beyond the actual blender actuator itself. In operation, the display is informative and in the current time when appliances need to be “friendly” – this one will say Hello, Finished, etc. I guess it is important to have a relationship with your appliances? At least there is no music or chiming. On the blending side, the pitcher sets on top with a semi-turn to lock it in place. This is much better than the Ninja which requires you to put the lid on in an exact position to blend. The buttons are easy to press to cycle through functions, or you can just use the Auto button. The auto function works well with making frozen drinks, staying on at varying speeds until all the ice is slush. Washing is easy, and unless you are pushing something oily through the system, I just hand wash with a little soap and water. The pitcher and lid are dishwasher safe. That same pitcher should be able to handle hot liquids like soups. I think the value is here, but also remember the number of $50-100 blenders out there. And for the demise of my own $350 Jamba Juice, I hesitate to spend $150, but that is just me. ... show more
