I feel bittersweet with Novostella's rainbow color outdoor LED strips. The first reason I bought these lights was because of the massive length of strip. In the past I have actually installed many LED strips outdoors before I found these. It was great because this kit took away several of the waterproofing steps I traditionally had to do on my own. Additionally, I historically always dealt with 16 foot strips. It required me to run power wire to the beginning of each 16 foot strip in order to prevent voltage drop. Voltage drop occurs when the end of the LED strip does not have enough power to light up correctly. An example of this would be if you put the lights on as white and by the end of the strip it appears as gold. The 52.5 feet strip was the selling point for me. However, the real reason they can get to this length with only one power supply is because the individual LED's are spread out substantially more compared to your typical indoor LED strips. For outdoor installs, this is okay because it will still have plenty of brightness for most people. Please be aware even installing in a raceway channel with a diffuser, you will most likely still be able to see the individual LED's along the strip because of the wide spacing. Depending on your situation, this still isn't the end of the world for most people. One of the best features of this kit in my opinion is the color chasing or addressable LEDs where you can send light motion through. It does come with a decent remote but that alone can be limited when it comes to picking dynamic options rather than solid colors. This is where a smartphone application would normally come in clutch. However, the application Novostella is utilizing is poor. It would be such an improvement if they invested into the development of a solid application that was user friendly and offered better options to choose color chasing designs. Even better, an application that allowed the user to design their own color chasing design to send through the strips. The current set up can only be connected to the application by bluetooth. Wifi is not an option. My main concern about these lights is the controller. When I say controller I mean the box that comes off the power that talks to the light strips on what color to change to. Days after a difficult installation up and down and around a railing system, one of the strips appeared to go out. A few feet would work until a certain LED and the rest of it would simply stay a nonoperational white. After much troubleshooting with cutting and soldering, the seller sent a new strip in which I uninstalled the old and installed the new. I plug in power and same exact issue existed. At this point I was dumbfounded. I decided to swap the controller with a different one and it was fixed! It was the controller the entire time malfunctioning. Fast forward another couple weeks we had another issue with a completely different strand not working and my first thoughts immediately went to the controller this time. The seller replaced the controller and it was working again. They have been working good for a month or two now so my fingers are crossed that they can get through the winter and long-term. I can only assume they have had consistent controller issues but I hope they are working on correcting the malfunctioning. The seller did offer great customer service with a willingness to help resolve any issues and for that I give credit to. Overall my project turned out as I envisioned and hoping it can last long-term. This product has such great potential in the outdoor lighting space and I look forward to see improvements that come in the future.

In general, I like the quality of the light strip, waterproof connections, and I am very much hoping the promised UV protection works so the Sun does not cause the outer covering to yellow like other outdoor LED rope lights. I cut off about 15ft of my strand so that I did not have any loose lights at the end of my roof eves. It was easy to cut and seal with the kit provided. The remote control provided is very difficult to use and I will probably never use it except as a backup. The best and easiest way to setup the lights is with the App. However, I wish that it provided a DIY function as I want to use different colors that what the APP or remote would allow. The lack of a DIY function is my biggest negative of this product. I knew these lights would not work with Alexa or Google Home, but it sure would be nice if this was available. Maybe in a future release of the LED Controller. Since I had to cut the strand, it would also be great if Novestalla offered Controllers separately so I could use my leftover lights somewhere else. I hope that Novestella will soon offer optional controllers for extra lights and possibly with Alexa/Google connectivity. It would be easier to install if there was sticky tape provided on the back of this strand (even though it would probably not hold up long term). It was a bit difficult for initial installation as the strand kept falling out of the provided clips due to the angle and height of my roof installation. The provided clips seem ok, but I am concerned they will also break down over time. So in addition I installed a Romex nail fastener every 5ft to make sure they would not fall down over time (See photo). The brightness and number of LED's per foot is very good. I do recommend these lights as they are some of the best for now. APP improvement will take them further into the future or else a competitor will overtake them. The Magic Lantern App structure looks similar to other competitor apps, and there is much room for improvement. I wish it had the following functions. 1. With multiple Novestella strands installed, it would be nice to group and or separate them during control. There is no way to know which strand(s) the App is connected to. It would also be great if the APP could have custom user names for each strand. 2. Need Do-It-Yourself light mode functions. 3. It takes a lot of time scrolling through the different light patterns, even though they are somewhat grouped. The App defiantly needs a FAVORITE settings (up to 10) for when the user wants to change the light mode to a previously liked mode.

These are great. Bright and tons of light effect options. Wish the app would let you design your own light combos but there are lots of good ones. The only disappointment is the 2 strands (53’ each) start at the same place and go out from there. It would have been nice to have the power/control on one end and it extends 100’ from there with the 2 strands connecting end to end. I had planned my run before they arrived then had to replan once I saw how they were configured. Oh I have them around my 12x24 AG pool under the top rails. Possibly ordering another set for across the front of my house and will use them as Christmas and occasions lights.

I Installed this last June, do not use it a ton but it is so much fun, either just a solid color, or dancing to the music, We all absolutely love it. Fast forward, lit it up this Spring, and a section had color missing. The seller was awesome, responded fast, and sent a replacement out fast. I would absolutely recommend the product, the seller, and putting LED’s outside.
