Description

The NOCO GEN5X1 is a fully-sealed, waterproof onboard battery charger rated at 5 amps, designed for 12-volt lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, including flooded, AGM, gel, and LiFePO₄ chemistries. It’s 37% smaller and delivers 43% more power than the previous-generation GENM1, making it our most compact and advanced charger yet. Bought this for an onboard maintainer in a diesel pickup. Mounted it on the ledge above the brake fluid reservoir with 3 M heavy duty outdoor velcro. Close to the battery and rock solid. This velcro has adhesive that rivals super glue. Be sure you have it where you want it the first time. ( ask me how I know). Ran the wiring in semi rigid loom and connected the ring terminals to the battery bar. Plenty of wire included ( 6 feet each for power and battery wires) . Connected the power cord to a waterproof external receptacle mounted under the vehicle's bumper. Works great, fully automatic. Returns to your last setting for battery type. No need to open the hood and select battery type each time you plug it in. For the quality, it's a bargain. Short trips or long periods of storage in a diesel are hard on batteries and they're expensive. This maintainer is cheap insurance. I plug it in about once a week and it takes about 2 hours to top off the batteries. It balances the parallel batteries perfectly, both at 12.7 volts when finished. ... show more

Incredible charger, well worth the money. I've used it on AGMs and acid batteries and works great. I had 2 AGM batteries that had zero voltage and the charger is able to push a charge to the batteries long enough to trigger the charger to get them back to full capacity. Quality is great, it's compatible with every automotive battery on the market and helped bring back numerous batteries instead of me having to go buy new ones. Well worth it. ... show more

    • Excellent charge profile for RV chassis batteries

I installed this on our class a diesel pusher. This is hardwired to the chassis batteries, two lead acid group 31’s. This multi stage charger is perfect. Floats both chassis batteries at 13.58 vdc with minimal power draw. Robust and waterproof with temperature compensation. Also works on AGM and Li batteries. I mounted it in the outside battery bay compartment as a permanent installation. Should save on electricity use, as our old Heart Freedom Combi inverter used roughly 3a 24/7 charging the house and chassis batteries. I converted the house to a 310 ah Li mini with its own Li profile charger, so the inverter charge circuit is now happily turned off. No more constant inverter hum… Don’t be tempted by inferior cheaper battery maintainers, trust me I tried and sent back two other brands because they didn’t work as advertised. Like not even close. This NoCo charger works exactly as advertised, however NoCo does not specify what their charge voltage profiles are. I also have a ten year old NoCo Genius 750ma battery maintainer for my motorcycles and atvs. Still going strong and the batteries last years longer with proper storage charging. Let’s face it, batteries have become very expensive. These chargers literally pay for themselves in short order.     • Great battery tender for a Corvette

I have a 2006 Corvette that I converted to a lithium-ion battery from Braille. When I did this, I wanted to make sure I had a compatible battery tender to make sure the Braille battery would stay nice and healthy during prolonged periods the car is not used. The C6 Corvette is known for battery run-down issues, and I knew this problem would be exacerbated with a lower reserve capacity battery, but I wanted the weight and space savings. I originally had a quick disconnect system in the car, the inconvenience of this became clear whenever I needed quick access to the car, so I decided to install an on-board battery tender. The NoCo unit is very small, and lends itself to being installed in a multitude of locations. The weatherproofing helps a lot, especially if you mount under the hood. I decided to mount inside the rear compartment nearest the battery. This may be an issue for Corvettes with a full-size battery back there, but for me, since the Braille battery was already a smaller footprint, it made fitting everything inside the compartment easy. Long story short, the unit works perfectly. The Braille battery in my car is still healthy and the car hasn't really moved since it's not my primary car. If you're looking for a small tender that can look after a multitude of different batteries (lead acid, AGM, litihum ion), this is the one you want, ESPECIALLY if you're concerned about space and want to mount it on the vehicle in question. NoCo has many other options for garage tenders as well if you aren't interested in mounting on-vehicle, and in my opinion they're the best when it comes to jump starters and tenders. They have many products to choose from, and I highly recommend this unit, as well as anything else made by NoCo. I have one of their jump boxes and the power and footprint are very impressive. NOCO products seem to be pretty good products, but how am I supposed to hook this charger to a car battery without either alligator clips, which it doesn't come with, or the correct connections to accommodate the larger terminal posts? I'm kind of disappointed. I guess I will need to make my own connections for my car battery. ... show more
