The frame itself is nice. The mattress is a completely different story. What they picture is NOT EVEN CLOSE! No foam whatsoever, trust me we looked. The knots are tied through it and the middle is bunched up and won't spread out. Thinner than you can imagine. Even too thin for a dog bed! A definite waste of a mattress. These pictures are after laying out for 72 hours. Pretty sad! Now I have to go spend more money on a decent mattress that will stand up on the back as a couch and not have HUGE lumps that can't be straightened out. Very costly to me! Very comfortable to sleep on, I'm told. Comfortable to sit on as well. We have only one issue, and it's not so much an issue as it is a procedure regarding folding it back into a couch. (Going from couch to sleeper is a breeze.) We've found it's easier to slide the mattress about 1/2 way off onto one of the unfolded arms/tables. The frame is then much easier to lift up into the full sitting position. The mattress can then slide back into the frame while you position the mattress so that the seat end part of the mattress is about even with the seat frame and tuck the mattress back into the frame. This will leave the seatback part of the mattress extending way up over the frame, and it's more comfortable for sitting that way. We also put 2 stick on round felt pads per leg which protects our wood floor and makes repositioning easier. We had a sleeper sofa previously, but it wasn't comfortable without a gel pad on top, and we got real tired of storing that gel pad. This futon is at least as comfortable as that, if not more so, and no extra gel pad. The throw pillows we already had, and they happened to match quite well. ... show more

We have had our Nirvana futon for five days now. We absolutely love this futon. My husband assembled it in about two hours. The mattress is thick and very comfortable when sitting and lying down. The flip out tray arms are handy to set drinks on and not have bulky end tables. The futon is sturdy and well built. We added wheels so that we could easily move the futon on carpet. My only complaint is that the mattress is tufted. That means they put stitching in several spots to hold all of the inner layers in place and they used white thread that sticks out like a sore thumb against the maroon fabric that we chose. Also one of the tufts was missing so there are small holes in the fabric making it vulnerable to a future tear. I am also baffled by how I am going to wash the mattress cover. It has a zipper in it but since it's tufted, I won't be able to take it out of the cover. Frustrating since my futon will be on the screened porch and I would generally want to wash it every season. Before making a decision to make this purchase I read the reviews and questions and decided to move ahead. I recently had new carpet installed in the house and wanted more space in one of the guest rooms. So I got rid of the full size bed and added the futon. I strongly suggest laying out all of the pieces to ensure you have every thing and read through the full instructions (as well as reading reviews on the experience of others). The wooden dowels referenced with the hardware list were already attached to the back deck. Make sure you have plenty of space for assembly and that you have measured where you are going to put it. NOTE: the instructions state to leave the side bolts loose and it means very loose or you will run in to issues getting the back deck into the arms. We thought we had them loose enough but had to adjust. It took us 4 hours to assemble. I am 62 and not very strong due to shoulder surgery in December and my husband is 74. You can deduct about 45-minutes of arguing time :) from that but if you are focused I think this could be completed in a couple of hours. We find it takes two people to open and close it which isn't a big deal since it will be used occasionally. We were both very pleased with the comfort of sitting on it when in sofa position and it is comfortable when both of us lay on it. The side table arms are really nice. I have a queen size fiber bed that will go on top for sleeping. It is a very nice and sturdy piece of furniture. ... show more

Assembly could not be easier. Instructions were easy to understand and each step was there. Every part was included. The quality was much better than expected. I wish everything I bought from Amazon was of this quality.

Wow I am really pleased with this futon frame! I was worried about assembly but it was SO easy, the instructions were very well done and clear! I put the back and seat frames together one evening then did the arms and putting it all together the next night with my 13yo daughter to help me slide the frame into place. Honestly, cramming the mattress in there was the hardest part. I ordered a clingy “shelf” thing to hold the mattress in place. It’s all bunched up now under there somewhere so I’m not sure it’s needed! There was no damage to any piece...it was just very well thought out and constructed. Now the mattress? Whole other story. I thought the cover would be cotton twill. Wrong. It is polyester or some sort of synthetic. While it zips up, which gives you a sense of “oh I can wash it” you would be very wrong! Unzip and discover all the floof they have fluffed it with. There would be no way in a cold day in hell you would ever get the cover back on it much less off of it without destroying it! That being said, order another cover to cover the cover as if you have pets it will be destroyed in a matter of days with filth and you can’t wash it! And yes it has an odd smell as others have said...almost like hay! ... show more

    • Easy to put together
I put it together myself, and I’m 71 years old. It would have been EASIER with a se person, no doubt, but it can be done alone. The wood is solid and heavy, the futon mattress thick and comfy. I needed it for when my grandkids visit overnight, and it opens and closes easily once you get the hang of it. It stays upright most of the time, and is a very comfortable sofa as well.
