It's made of solid wood. The drawers fully roll out with side trays and solid wood braces. The futon is a dense mass of cotton tightly secured by sturdy fabric. it was pricey and required a little assembly, but you definitely get the quality and simplicity with assembly. Quality made. Wasn’t too terrible to put together. It fits great in my daughter’s room and she loves it. (13 years old) I wouldn’t prefer it to a bed but my teen loves the space it gives her in her room. I’m happy to know it won’t fall apart while she sleeps and she says it’s comfortable to sleep on. First, the frame and the mattress did not arrive at the same time (3 days apart). There are two sets of instructions that come separately in two of the three boxes for the frame. One set is for the drawers and the other is for the frame. They both went together with no problem, it's just time consuming. The frame is very sturdy and the mattress is comfortable. The mattress had a slight odor, but that is to be expected with a memory foam mattress. The odor went away after a day in the garage. I have read that some people have a problem changing from a sofa to a bed and back. To go from sofa to bed I have found that it is easiest to stand in front of and in the middle of the sofa and pull up. To go from bed to sofa stand in the middle of what will be the back of the sofa and pull up. ... show more

It's very sturdy and looks great. Nice wood finish. It was packaged well and there was no damage. The instructions are clear, EZ assembly. All the holes lined up perfectly. However, one thing should be changed . . . 7A & B Connect the seat deck and back deck together with the clevis pins before attaching them to the frame. The arms are solid and don't have room to insert the pins if the back deck in attached to the frame. Good value. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

First of all, the futon itself is high quality. Unlike other reviewers I found assembly was relatively easy for just myself. The cushion makes comfortable seating and as a piece of furniture it is visually appealing if you are in the market for a wooden futon. This piece lost two stars from me because it was not accurately represented in the product images on amazon. In 360 view on the project page the back is clearly solid wood. In real life the back is not solid. I paid extra for that solid back and I was sorely disappointed, hence the three stars. This is really a beautiful piece when assembled. We are still struggling with the lower bed drawer assembly, since the pieces seen to be off by maybe 1/32" and don't want to quite mesh. Getting out the long clamps tomorrow since I picked up a rubber mallet today, and think we should be good to go. I probably would suggest going the extra bucks and having a professional assemble this if you have limited woodworking experience or a low frustration threshold, or a limited to selection. I pointed my young adult son and daughter at this and told them to have fun. The son is relatively good with his hands and likes tools. The daughter excels in reading and following directions and making sure son does exactly what she tells him to do, so between the two of them, they are relatively competent. Took them an afternoon to get it together (except for the lower drawers), and they had a good time. I was somewhat concerned about the futon mattress, since the innerspring ones are recommended for futons that will be seeing daily use and my son is a relatively tall and normal weight male. He finds the mattress extremely comfortable and proclaims himself extremely satisfied. He is having difficulties adjusting the futon to the different positions, but it may be a queen futon needs two people, or the mattress may simply need to settle a bit. All in all, initial reaction is quite happy. ... show more

Very comfortable! This is a large futon. Purchased it for our son's room which isn't very big. He wanted a futon so he could make it into a couch when his friends come over. Instructions are a bit lacking and can be confusing. At first we thought we were short some hardware but it was actually all there. Once it was FINALLY assembled it is pretty solid. Only downside is that the mattress/cushion can be difficult to position when the futon is in a sitting configuration. Some ties to hold it in place would have been nice. ... show more

I do not write many reviews but thought I would join the chorus of folks that like this futon. I thought the fasteners were of very good quality and the joinery is well designed and executed. The assembly is actually kind of fun, not particularly difficult, but my recommendation is to have two people and build in a large space. I built this in the ultimate destination which was cramped. My one issue is the queen size requires two extra legs on the back rack so that when the futon is in the down position, those legs can be used as extra support. However, no fasteners were supplied for this purpose. I won't lower my stars because a quick trip to the hardware store was all that was needed. But the manufacturer should check on that. I had some nice hex tools that made the assembly a bit easier, but their supplied wrench will indeed do the job. The mattress seems very nice. It is definitely on the firm side, but I think that is good all things considered. I agree with others that the mattress will probably wear and will be a bugger to switch out. To solve that problem, I covered the mattress while in the up position with a nice throw. A lot easier to get a new throw than to try and unzip the cover. In summary, a really nice product and kind of fun to build. But get a buddy to help you! ... show more
