Description

In Nioh 3, players take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, poised to become the next Shogun during Japan’s turbulent Sengoku period. In the shadows, Takechiyo’s younger brother, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, consumed by hatred towards his brother’s succession, plots to overthrow him. Empowered by a sinister force, he leads a horde of yokai in a fierce assault on Takechiyo, abruptly ending the era of peace and plunging Japan into hell. Guided by the mysterious power of his guardian spirit Kusanagi, Takechiyo transcends time to survive this kingdom in dire straits and become Shogun. The story of Nioh 3 will unfold on a larger scale than ever before in series history. Covering various eras and regions, Nioh 3 includes Edo Castle and the Tōtōmi region during the Sengoku period, which players were able to explore in the Alpha demo, as well as the recently unveiled Kyoto, the capital of the Heian period. Players will also be able to freely explore each era in open-field experience, featuring beautiful and distinct environments. During his perilous quest to foil his brother’s conspiracy, Takechiyo will face various yokai and other powerful enemies, while taking on the challenge of the Crucible.

This was my first experience with a nioh game.. man what a amazing game! I platinum this game because it was so much fun, I just wanted to keep playing. The story was strong, the characters were great, the graphics were spot on, game play was incredible, and combat was so much fun. This was a challenging game! But not in a absurd way. I wouldn't even call it souls like. It is It's own thing, and it just works. Difficult? Yes. But absolutely great after some experience gaining. For $70 its totally worth every penny. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Nioh 3, but after a few hours it completely hooked me. The combat feels fast and very precise, and every fight actually makes you pay attention instead of just button-mashing. It’s definitely challenging, especially early on, but once you start understanding the mechanics, it becomes extremely satisfying. I really like how you can switch playstyles depending on how you want to fight. Some encounters felt impossible at first, but finally beating a tough boss gives that amazing “one more try” feeling the series is known for. Graphics and performance are solid on PS5, and loading times are quick enough that dying never feels frustrating. It’s not the most beginner-friendly game, but if you enjoy skill-based combat and improving over time, this one is absolutely worth it. ... show more

Nioh 3 is a landmark entry in the ninth console generation that has already captured over 60 hours of my playtime, and I've no desire to stop yet. While Nioh is a Character Action Game with some similarities to Soulslike games, it has some notable differences that set it apart from others. Namely, the loot system is plentiful. Itemization in Nioh is something more akin to Diablo, The Division, or Destiny than something like Dark Souls. Most enemy kills will pinata out several pieces of different color rarity glowing gear for you to run around and collect, and this leads to quite a bit of inventory maintenance to be done when you revisit the hub world. This may put off some, but I found the diversity of loot deep and engaging. Combat is intense and perhaps most comparable to something like First Berserker Khazan. There are fully realized skill trees for every weapon type, which is further divided by your ability to swap between Samurai and Ninja form in an instant mid-combat—of which have their own unique weapons and skills. The transition to an open world design, rather than strictly mission-based, compliments these mechanics by giving you skill points and upgrades to find all throughout the world, making exploration feel consistently rewarding. There are some side quests to complete, but the main focus of the open world is collecting all the various skill points and special abilities hidden with clever level design. However, I must inform that the open world direction has introduced performance issues on console. They had to make sweeping fidelity cuts keep the game close to it's 60 FPS target, and because of that there's hyper aggressive LOD pop-in as you traverse the world and it's extremely distracting. It also renders at a very low, often sub-1080p resolution that upscaling struggles to resolve in a pleasing way. Even PSSR on the PS5 Pro ends up delivering an overly soft image that feels decidedly last-gen. That final critique considered, I'd still strongly recommend Nioh 3 to fans of the Action game genre. I've been captivated by it in a way that I haven't since Elden Ring. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say this game trumps Elden Ring, and they are certainly different games in many regards, but the feeling this game evokes has been surprisingly similar for me. ... show more

The game mechanics are very precise and satisfying. Swaping between styles is seamless and adds a lot of replayability. Of you like fast souls, variety of weapons and ninja and samurai styles you cannot miss it.

Fantastic game! It's a slightly different take on the traditional Nioh formula. This one being open world/open zone compared to the previous ones being more mission based and linear structure wise. I say overall, it's neither good or bad. Moreso comes down to personal preference with this set up. There are sometimes where I wish there was more structure, but I feel they've gone a good enough job to warrant it's inclusion nonetheless. In short, the open world justifies it's existence but I don't really think it was also 100% necessary. It's inoffensive if anything. Regardless, the game is still fast, challenging, and regularly tests reaction times like all games of this genre. This time you get to switch stances between Samurai and Ninja skills and the main combat revolves around swapping between the two styles according to the enemies you face. I do say that given the open ended structure, this game tends to be a lot more easier than the other 2 Nioh games. Which isn't bad for those looking to get into the series here. It's a fantastic place to start. Just know that if you are already familiar with Nioh and the series, alot of it will feel very familiar. Not to even mention that a lot of the Yokai have been reused and re-purposed in this game from the previous games. Overall, a great game but I still consider 2 to be the pinnacle of the series. I think Nioh 3 just falls slightly short of it. Though taking a stab at an open world is an interesting idea, I am not 100% sure if it really adds to the benefit and upgrade the experience rather than just being a side grade to what came before.     • Nioh 3, worth your time for Nioh veterans

As a Nioh veteran this game hits all the right spots. My only gripes are the recycled music from Nioh 2 and enemy placement. As much as I enjoyed the music from Nioh 2, I wish they had made more original music for this entry. Still great music though. Now for enemy placement I am hugely disappointed. I have no issue with recycling bosses from the previous game but I got tired of fighting mezuki and gozuki in every region. I think you fight both of them 3 to 4 times throughout the game. They should have just added more bosses to have more variety. Also, normal enemy placement doesnt change much with 2nd difficulty so new game plus doesnt feel much different. Hopefully team ninja fixes this with the new updates in the future. Other than that I highly recommend playing this game if youre a Nioh veteran or just a fan of souls like games in general. One more thing, I played on base ps5 so I dont know how it runs on ps5 pro, but performance mode is the way to go. You need high frame rates for these types of games. One last thing, the steel book is amazing, defintiely a must have for collectors! ... show more
