  • Great Family Fun!
Well, never thought I'd write a review for the Nintendo Wii U, let alone buy a Wii U. That all changed while talking to a friend at work. We were talking game and both admitted we wanted a Wii U at the same time. We both have PS4's, so this was something new. We then started to talk about Mario and Zelda. I went home that day and started doing some research on the Wii U. Not very many games out for it, developers backing out of making games, nintendo, may announce a new system within a year or two. All facts that started having me think twice about buying one. So on my day off, I went to Nintendo's web-site and did some eShop viewing. They had a lot of games I liked from when I was a kid, and just had to have them again. I decided to just go for it, even with it's future not so bright. So on Wednesday May 27, my package arrived! I couldn't not wait to set it up and start some gaming on it. Setup was simple, the two games already installed on the hard drive. I also added an external 500gb hard drive to it. Super Mario Bros 3D is an excellent game! Sometimes even hard and challenging. I gave up on the Nintendo Land because the Control Pad kept losing connection with the Wii U.. Which I can't figure out, since I was less then 1 foot from the Wii U. All in all the system had a good feel to it, everything worked and looked great. Graphics were good, and it was nice finally playing a Nintendo game in HD. The only thing I would have to warn, is on the eShop. Watch what you buy, because some of it, just isn't worth the $4.99 or more. Example: I bought Donkey Kong Country, the graphics are HORID, doesn't look anything like the SNES version at all, the game is full of pixelation and LAG! Well, as I said, it's worth the $291.99 and I've already ordered more games and accessories for it! I am now off to go PLAY my WII U! ... show more

  • Hey You Guys!!! This is REALLY FUN!!!!
We held off - maybe for too long. We had the Wii - and didn't realize how much the Wii U adds. I personally love the fact that when I'm gaming and someone wants to watch something on the TV, I can often switch to playing on the Gamepad. But aside from that, the games are awesome, challenging, fun, and most of them have some group play. Our entire family enjoys the Wii U - usually at the same time - and that makes for one happy family! Whether it's golf and bowling or Splatoon or Mario 3D World or a Party game - everyone gets to have fun, regardless of their experience level. More games, hi def, more group games, "off-TV" playing, Online connectivity - Such Fun! We have Xbox, we have PlayStation - neither of them get anywhere near the same use as our Wii U. Each is great in its own way, each has some great franchise games. Nintendo has more - and Nintendo has more family friendly & fun games - AND Nintendo is backward compatible two generations, with a massive library of classic downloadable games from older consoles!!! [As of this writing, Xbox One still doesn't play Xbox 360 games, and PlayStation 4 wants to charge an additional fee to play PlayStation 3 games you've already purchased!] Truly, the Wii U is the best fun for any family - worth every cent - and each game that we've purchased truly offers tons of great play - that's even great fun the second time around, or playing with new friends & family! ... show more

  • Hours and Hours of fun
No regrets buying this. I have always loved Nintendo games and playing them with friends and family. This is exactly what I wanted when I purchased this game system. It is not the best console out there but it has some awesome games that are fun for all ages. I now invite my siblings and parents and friends over and we can have a Mario party night or super smash bros night. It is great. The games on this system are perfect for bringing everyone togrther and just having a ton of fun no matter who wins. I was stuck in between buying the wii or the wii u and I finally settled on the wii U system and I am glad I did. I can still play all of the older games but now I get the games that are coming out now and are a little better quality. Plus the big player 1 controller is awesome. super mario 3d is a very fun game and so is Nintendo land. The Nintendo land has some great mini games in it that we have fun for hours playing. To give you a perspective on who is playing our ages range from 24 to 16 playing and then sometimes my parents come over and play. We always have a blast. My suggestion is to get at least 4 controllers so as many people can play. There are a few games in Nintendo Land that are awesome with 5 people playing. If you are looking to have a good time and remember some of those old games then this is the system for you. ... show more

  • Great price on an item that exceeded my expectations. This adult gamer loves the Wii U.
I am surprised at how much I love the Wii U. I have all the modern systems and most of the retro ones too. I love Xbox 1 (and 360 and Xbox), like PS4 (and 1,2,3), and have been a Nintendo lover for decades. The original Wii let me down...no HD, controllers were weird, etc. But the Wii U is a different story. First, the system is simple and sturdy (well, kind of). It is not a hulking box but a very small little system, quiet, clean looking, and sturdy. However, the "controller," that comes with the system is big...bigger than any console controller in modern history and I thought I would hate it. I don't. It is a weird hybrid of tablet, controller, and personal gaming system and in my opinion it works. It is sturdy in the hands and it is actually quite comfortable to hold. The online element of the platform is not Xbox...not even close so don't expect that. It is a simple place to buy some classic games, get some of the newer releases, maybe chat with a 12 year old (don't know never tried) and I guess if you don't have an Xbox or a smart TV, you can use it to stream Netflix. But...let's be real. Nintendo is still around because of brand identity. The Mario and DK games are the reason I bought the Wii U and for that I am thrilled. Mario 3D, Mario Cart, New Super Mario Wii U, Zelda, Kirby...they are awesome. And because you can only get it on Nintendo, it makes me keep a little clear space in my budget and on my TV stand for whatever system Nintendo puts out every several years. And now another note about why I really like this system. With the hype on PS and Xbox, there is some form of competition. In my opinion XB is superior but PS is a fine system. I get tired of playing for achievements and trophies and I get very tired of hearing people arguing why one of the "super," systems is better than the other. In my opinion one does not have to be bad for another to be good. The Wii U is simply a gaming system with fun in mind. They are not trying to convince you of anything. They are not trying to replace your cable box or jam 3000000p graphics down your throat. They are just saying, "hey, we have great characters and great...fun out of the box...games that you and your family can play." That is refreshing to me. The Wii U sits proudly below my TV next to my XB1 and I am glad I have it. Would I choose it over XB1...absolutely not. But it has a place and I am very glad I bought it. Oh, and Mario cart is awesome...:) ... show more

  • ahhhhh good old Nintendo
ahhhhh good old Nintendo. how do I love thee? Let me count the ways....well one for every year I have had one. Lets go back to October 1985, the release of the first NES. Nintendo started make recognition as a provider of quality, fun, revolutionary home console ideas. The Wii U, although off to a shaky start is finally starting to own its own in that role. It moved somewhat away from the popular (yet a little gimmicky) WiiMote system. But I digress, Lets start with packaging and build quality. It comes in a very nice tiered box. Upon opening the box there are what can only be described as cardboard drawers that you pull out and contain the separate components. It has the Console, LCD Gamepad, Power Adapter for the console, usb charger for the gamepad, a charging cradle for the gamepad, the Wii sensor bar, HDMI cable, 2 feet to stand the wii upright, and a little plastic thing that took me awhile to figure out what it was for...its a non powered stand for the gamepad, how cute. (forgive me if I forgot anything. Build Quality I have a working 1986 NES, a basically workigg SNES, I would have a N64 and Gamecube if I didnt sell them off, and I have 2 Wii's. I once dunked a powered on Gamecube into a bucket of water to try and break it....it powered off, a day or two later said "Donkey Kong ain't got nuthin on me" and was working like nothing happened. I fully could see the WiiU at least lasting many years (maybe not a shower though). It feels solid, its heavy for its size but very cleam and sleek looking. I went for the black as it matches everything else I won. "Gimmickyness" I would say that overall the gamepad is pretty nice, It is a bit awkward to hold after a while and can get a little heavy. The screen when implimented properly in a game is pretty usefull. The stand out feature I think is the ability to mirror the TV. So if you only have 1 TV available you wont have to fight for control. Just Mirror the TV and plug headphones into the gamepad (there is a headphone jack out, standard size) and play while your other person watches TV. The cons of the gamepad - Doesnt mirror every game - for some reason when playing two player (like mario kart) it ONLY mirrors the game so you still play splitscreen (WTF Nintendo, This made me irritated) - Battery runs pretty quick - Can get a little heavy Games This is usually where Nintendo stands out. They have a reputation of if not taking risks then at least doing what they do better than anyone else. The WiiU did have a rocky start as far as 1st party games (games made by Nintendo, for Nintendo) But over the last year they have finally started rolling out their major titles. Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Pikmin and upcoming is Metroid and the Legend of Zelda plus a few more solid titles. There is a HUGE backlog of games from the Nintendo EShop though that range from NES-Wii so no shortage of excellent games to choose from. Mostly what you have o know is the games are exactly what games should be...they are fun. Graphics This is where it gets a little weird, well kind of. The graphics are-for what the WiiU is-beautiful. As far as I can tell Nintendo is playing its strength, mostly very colorful games cartoony in design and riddled with detail and life. This isnt going to be playing games at the same calibur of the Xboxs or Playstations but it plays its cards perfectly. The new Legend of Zelda coming out this year should be testament to that. It supports up to 1080p and can do 3D as well as 5.1 surround Features this is the WiiU's weakest point I think. You can do Netflix, and YouTube, and some other stuff. Nintendo has for some strange reason continued to lock the ability to play even basic DVDs. There is no valid reason for it. The system will read DVD's and BlueRay obviously as thats what the game disks are on but will not play movies. There is various speculations as to why but it all means the same in the end, It cant. If you are looking for an "all in one" this wont quite do it. At the end of it all its a Nintendo product, Its reliable and has a lot of great reasons to buy it. Make sure you buy the deluxe bundles as they come with more storage space. This one included 2 games as well. ... show more

  • Just not worth the price and time. Broken charging adaptor and bad battery. Plus an open system.
I just received this item and when I opened it I noticed that it was already open and has a few tiny scratch marks on the gamepad. After I got it open and hooked up I plugged in the gamepad and tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I messed it for a hour or so checking to see if the wii u would turn on and it did but the gamepad was not charging. After a few hours has passed calling Nintendo and looking up reasons why this is hopping I came across it could be the adaptor cable. So I went and bought a new cable for charging and then ordered on amazon a battery just to see if it is that. I just received the battery and the cable and both together got the gamepad back to working order. I am disappointed because I thought I was paying for a new system but I guess I got a returned unit instead. Also one of the games is missing Nintendo land. Will not recommend this seller or product to anyone. Go to a local gamestop and just purchase a used system. Save you a lot of time, headache, and money. ... show more

  • Exactly What I Was After
I have played PC games for 20 years and have avoided game consoles in favor of the PC with mouse and keyboard. I finally broke down and purchased a console so I could game with a friend online and maybe even get a little exercise. I love the touch screen - using just a joystick and buttons to type was something I was dreading but this works more like a tablet. And the touch sensitivity is wonderful. It makes navigating menus really easy. Just watch out, the controller even when fully charged won't last more than about 3 - 4 hours. You can keep it plugged in if you play for long periods like I sometimes do. The games it comes with are fun though I moved on to other games. I like the Wii Sports and, to an extend the Wii Fit U (though this last game can be quite insulting and demoralizing if you have image issues about your weight). Right now I probably play a little too much of the Castle Siege game which is simple but a lot of fun. As for the controller (joysticks and buttons), they work pretty well for this novice of such controllers. My brother-in-law who is used to the X-Box had a little difficulty because the buttons are in a different order but managed pretty well after a little practice. I was disappointed it did not come with Wii Remote controllers. I guess they assume most people who purchase the Wii U already have a Wii. But a quick trip to the local game store solved that. I recommend 2 of the Wii U Remote Plus controllers with the Nun Chuck. If you shop around or haggle with your local store you can probably find a good deal on them. I got the name brand because the off brands often had negative reviews about how reliable they were. In all I got what I was after: a console that is considerably less expensive than a new gaming PC which I can use to play online with a friend while also playing games that get me some exercise. ... show more

  • Wii U Is Awesome! Why? I'll Tell You.
The Wii U is awesome, and this bundle is great! I'm glad I bought this when I did because club Nintendo is closing and I wanted Mewtwo for Smash Bros, which I can get when I buy Smash for Wii U. The bundle is great, it comes with everything you'll probably need for 1 player and has Mario 3D World and NintendoLand which are both tons of fun. Be sure to ask the seller if you want the physical or digital games specifically, because they have 2 versions of this now and Amazon has yet to separate them. As for the Wii U, I'm sick of hearing people, especially "Gamers", claim the Wii U is weak and only for casual players/Nintendo fanboys. The thing no one seems to get is that the PS4/XboxOne are so powerful because of the "seemless multimedia" performance they claim to provide. Basically, the hardware being used to run the actual games is much less than what the system has total, even more so than the Wii U (no modern system runs 100% of its assets for the game). So, the spec differences for game performance are really not that much greater, especially this early on when developers are still learning the hardware. Most of the "Hardcore" games for PS4/XboxOne, right now, are "HD Remasters" and collections of PS3/360 games. I fail to see how that makes them more "Hardcore" than the Wii U. 2015 is the year for Wii U, with Zelda, Star Fox, and many more games coming out exclusively for it. ... show more
