  • brighter with higher color temp range. Recommended.
I recommend these bulbs. The light output is brighter than the Sylvania and Philip's bulbs I've had before. The brightness gains appear to be mostly related to the temperature of the bulbs which I estimate to be 5 or 6k - and about 20% higher light output. The result is quite an improvement. I will update this review to include longevity in a few months. As I was putting the old bulbs in my storage box, I realized that over the years, it has been a relentless quest to improve the light output on modern headlights. This can only be due to our attempt to overcome poor design with stronger and stronger bulbs. This was never a problem with sealed beam headlights - there was plenty of light and they weren't even halogens. In the meantime, this has become an expensive pastime that most of us don't enjoy. ... show more

  • A waste of time.
Amazon did a great job shipping these Nighthawk bulbs out to me. Even with the super saver shipping they arrived in just a few working days. However, after changing only one of my high beam bulbs for a side-by-side comparison, I noticed no increase in brightness when compared to the original bulb (I'm assuming that mine were original with the car - since I bought the car used, I can't be certain - my original high beam bulb on my Bonneville was a Sylvania bulb, but not marked as a Silver Star). If there was any difference in brightness, it was negligible, and certainly not worth the expense, or the effort of changing the bulb, which in my case was hard to get at. A few nicks and bruises on the hands and some back-ache are no biggie, but would have hurt less if the Nighthawk bulb had been brighter! A good thing about the Nighthawks, as others have stated, is their whiteness of light output. My originals have a very slight yellowish cast, which did appear to cause slightly more discomfort to look at when facing the front of the car, as compared to the Nighthawk bulb, which was not yellowish in cast at all, probably pure white or very slightly bluish. The effect is that the Nighthawks are about equal in brightness, but put out what appears to be a cooler light which may be less glaring, and more comfortable to the eyes of oncoming drivers in the event that you forget to dim your bulbs. Amazon did promptly refund my money upon my returning the bulbs, even though I had scratched off some of the blue coating on one of the Nighthawks during installation and/or OUTstallation. ... show more

  • Let's see how long they last! (~10 months)
They look great and put out a lot of light! I will certainly be updating this when/if either of them burn out. I'm really hoping that a majority of the 1-2 week, even month complaints are a result of people not handling halogen bulbs properly during install. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halogen_lamp) Read "Handling precautions". DON'T TOUCH THE GLASS! For now, @ < $35 for highs and < $30 for lows, I'm happy with them. UPDATE: First failure occurred at the 10 month mark. Not terrible for this type of bulb. Night driving was not a daily occurrence for most of that time but it was not rare either. However, the daily driver (who is not me) was very satisfied with these and will probably be buying them again soon. ... show more

  • GE Nighthawk Platnium 9005 Replacement Bulbs
Wanted a brighter than OEM replacement bulbs for my 2004 GMC Sierra Denali. Went with Sylvania UltraStar that lasted all of 6 months. I do realize than the bulb than burns twice as bright burns half as long, so I am not complaining, they were nice and bright. But I would like them to last a little longer. $100 a year for bright headlights is a little steep. These Nighthawks are just a little bit brighter than the UltraStars. And just like the UltraStars they are are bright white, not blue. I'll just wait and see how long they last... then I can give them 5 stars. ... show more

  • Holy Smokes, I CAN SEE!!
I traded in a Volkswagen Jetta GLI for a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 4x4 AWD ruggedness. Sorely missing my HID headlights, I started looking for HID kits for the Jeep. I looked and looked but didn't like the aftermarket appearances and effort it would take. I gave up. One day, weeks later, I was driving at night and decided that the stock OEM bulbs were NOT worth settling for. I started looking for some good replacement bulbs, as I didn't want to get a full HID kit. GE Nigthhawks have been a lifesaver at night. I've dodged deer thanks to these bulbs. These are great bulbs that give great HID intensity light. Fantastic product, highly recommended. ... show more

  • Ninety percent more light than standard halogen?
The only reason that these lights only get 4 out of 5 stars is that this claim from the manufacturer is a gross exaggeration. They do, however, provide a good 25 to 30 percent more light than the OEM halogens. I have bought these for a few vehicles now and the light output is consistent. Yes, the lenses of the headlights need to be clear and not fogged over, so you will need to take care of that with another product. ... show more

  • Misrepresented Title But Excellent Product
I only gave this product a 3 star, because it is misrepresented in its title. I purchased it because I needed to replace the normal headlights in my 2010 Prius. The product says they are headlights, and it says it is Prius compatible, both which are true, the only thing is that they are for the BRIGHTS not the normal running headlight. I kept the product because they work great, and I didn't feel like taking them out, but just make sure you purchasing the correct lights. It is possible I didn't read the packaging or missed it somewhere, but for someone who isn't car savvy, you see headlights and just assume they are normal, and brights would be labeled brights ... show more

  • car headlight bulbs
These bulbs came in a very timely fashion, the fact that these bulbs were manufactured to fit several different cars caused them to come with NO installing information, with that understanding in mind I used the owners manual and had the exchange new for orginal done in a matter of minutes, they provide the extra light that I need at night, thanks for prompt service and a quality produce at a fair price!!!JLF ... show more
