  • EATURES: This motor features a 36 inch fiberglass shaft, a 10 LED battery meter, a 6 inch telescoping tiller handle, 30 degree adjustable head, and 3 blade propeller. The tiller angle, as well as mount, height, angle, and direction can all be adjusted and locked into place when needed.
  • SPEED: This motor has 8 speeds, 5 forward and 3 reverse. The motor is designed for trolling, so the top speed of this motor is about 4mph, but depends on your boat shape, weight, water, wind, and other factors. Our 3 Blade Propeller gives the motor great low end torque to get the boat moving.
  • BATTERY: The 55lb X Series motor requires one (1) 12V Lead-Acid Deep Cycle or Lithium Deep Cycle battery (battery not included), 50ah recommended. The motor also includes a 50amp circuit breaker which is recommended at all times to protect from battery voltage surges. Max Amp Draw: 52A

I’m usually a Minn Kota or Motorguide guy but they are expensive. I’ve heard of Newport Marine before but never tried anything. This motor was a lot cheaper than other options and seems to be just as well made. I’m glad I gave Newport a try.

the 5 speed forward/reverse feature works well. there are no stops, or detents built into the handle to separate one speed from the next. the mounting bracket is plastic and that worries me but for the cost compared to other mfgr's i'll take the risk. nearly four hours of low speed trolling and no discernable loss of power. the blue LED light bars could be a different color, after all the motor is camo for a reason and the light bar glows brightly. 55# of thrust is more than sufficient to move my semi-vee 12' aluminum rowboat. the camo paint though may not last as long as the motor but that's what spray paint is for i guess. overall a solid 4 stars for it's maiden use and a 5th if the LED lights were green, if the transom mounting bracket was metal, and if the telescopic handle had some type of built in stop between the different speeds. and yes, 4th and 5th speed are nearly if not identical. still it works well for it's asking price. ... show more

    • Much louder than my old Minn Kota 30lb. loud humming noise when running at any speed.

able to run much deeper than my old motor, that would sometimes come out of the water and make lots of noise depending on where I was standing in the boat. battery gauge is nice, very bright. motor is very loud compared to my older minn kota. this may be partly because this is a 40lb thrust vs 30lb, but it is louder at low speeds also. propels the boat nicely, 3 blade prop is smaller diameter than 2 blade. hardware looks to be mostly stainless, so should be fairly corrosion proof. some force is needed to click the mount into the full vertical or full horizontal position. a few times I didn't have it clicked in all the way and it slipped to the next notch with a loud snap. If I push on it a little harder I could get it to click in fully. ... show more

No on the water use yet, but the matte tan paint job was flawless out of the box and when tested the motor was quite and smooth, with no hints of vibration when ran through all speeds.

I wish I’d of used and opened this before the return period expired. I had a 36 pound minkota before this. Never had issues with battery life or running it wide open. This Newport motor is terrible. Rattles because of all the plastic it’s made with. Has no where near the power of a minn lots of equal power. And for the first time ever in my river run( it’s the same every trip) my battery died. Thing drains it looking for more power which it obviously doesn’t have. I’m using a blue top optima marine battery. No reason a few hours trolling should kill this. Super waste of money guys. EDIT: 9-1-2022 had this thing less than a year.........what a joke still. the prop nut has come loose twice, so much so that the prop wouldnt spin with the resistance of the water. both times this happend while i was on the river.....and yea it has 5 speed settings................which is actually 2 settings.....setting 4 will give me a creep. the other settings all go wide open. im in the process of contacting this joke of a company to see if theyll give me some credit to but another brand or something......hell, id pay to send them this thing back for my money back....STILL JUNK DO NOT BUY ... show more

I bought this for a 12 ft featherlite john boat and it works good. As some may have mentioned it does have some plastic parts but for my application has done well. It pushes the boat just fine and I found the highest setting is quite fast, even in a 12 ft boat. I really dont have any complaints this far. Well worth teh price in my opinion and I would reccomend based on my experience so far. ... show more
