With my mis-shapen foot due to longstanding bone spurs (and age, as well), I _need_ a big and flexible toe-box, to avoid pressure on my infirmity. This does the job. Toe box and indeed most of the shoe except for sole, tongue, and collar, is made predominantly of mesh, with just strips of solid (imitation) leather to hold it together. This works just fine. Can lace for loose toe box yet have support around the ankle. Plenty of cushion in the foot-bed PLUS vertical room for a nice thick cushy insole w/ arch, heel cup, etc, so my aging ankles don't get beat up taking steps. Somewhat sticky outside sole surface, but no lugs to catch on stairs and thresholds. When I use them for folk dancing, I ameliorate the stickiness by rubbing on hard candle wax, then applying cornstarch, then rubbing it off to avoid leaving deposits on the floor. They keep this geezer walking and even folk dancing, when any tighter shoe would hurt. ... show more

I ordered the Wide Size 11 version, and they are very comfortable. I’ve only worn them for work (light walking) and so far they’re pretty good. To me, the wide shoe makes them look like space boots (width and color). The shoes give me plenty of space everywhere and it gives me extra space in front of the toes. The shoes are made high quality materials. The stitching looks like they keep the shoes together for a long time. The rubber bottoms give me traction when I’m walking, and they should prevent some slips. I haven’t walked in rain or puddles so I can’t tell you if they’ll squeak but so far they’re also quiet. ... show more

Once again New Balance (NB) shoes have come through with a great product at a reasonable price. I now buy NB shoes almost exclusively because of their strict manufacturing specifications. Specifically, when I order a specific size and width shoe, it is virtually guaranteed that the shoes will fit like a glove :0).     • Relieves my bunion pain!

I have been a New Balance customer for 15 years. I normally order 1540's. Have 2 new pairs of those - one wide and one extra wide. Ordered the extra wide because a bunion just developed on my right foot. The 877's are a complete surprise. At the lower price point compared to the 1540's I didn't have high expectations. They feel fantastic for all-day around the house use. No pressure on my bunion, enough support in cushioning (also use insert). First day since bunions developed I had zero pain. They’re not exceptionally squishy or comfy in my opinion. A little expensive for shoes that lasted me 6 months. I thought they looked cool but my wife thought they were lame. Not waterproof.

As a man of 52 comfort is paramount when choosing a walking shoe. The sizing as advertised is perfect - my foot size is 10.5 Wide and that is exactly what I received. It's not like those reviews where everyone says a particular brand "runs narrow" - the size was perfect. Wore them all day right out of the box for a trip and there was no "breaking in" period.
