This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with an Amazon product. I paid a premium price for the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft just two weeks ago to use during a 3-month trip to Brazil. It has completely ruined my travel plans. This expensive piece of junk started freezing the exact moment I downloaded my very first book. It now crashes and freezes constantly, forcing me to hard-reset it all day long just to read a single chapter. To make matters worse, the screen itself is defective—it is only sensitive in some areas and completely dead in others, making it impossible for the premium pen to register my notes. But the real nightmare is Amazon’s abysmal customer service. After a local technician confirmed the device has a massive hardware defect and told me to contact Amazon US, the US representative gave me the most insulting response possible: they told me they would do absolutely NOTHING until I return to the US in three months. What makes this an absolute joke is that Amazon explicitly operates here in Brazil and sells Kindles locally. They have the complete infrastructure, support, and stock right here. Since they refuse to process a cross-border return or exchange through the local Amazon Brazil, the very least they should do is send me a prepaid international shipping label right now so I can send this defective unit back and receive a full refund. With the refund, I could simply buy a working Kindle directly from the local Brazilian store. Instead, I am well within my 30-day return window, and Amazon expects me to sit on a broken, useless device for a quarter of a year because their multi-billion-dollar system cannot handle an international return label for a traveler. This is an absolute scam. You pay for their top-tier, most expensive model, it breaks in two weeks, and then customer loyalty means nothing to them. If you are a traveler, stay far away from this device. Amazon will gladly take your money and leave you completely stranded with a paperweight the moment you cross the border. Pathetic. I have attached a photo showing the exact hardware defect. As you can see, I wrote the exact same word multiple times, in the exact same way, trying to follow the straight line. The defective screen completely distorts the handwriting—stretching it, pulling it down, warping the letters, and failing to track the pen. This geometric distortion happens in random dead zones across the screen. It is a fundamental hardware failure on a premium device.
