Works just fine connecting a not-brand-new Roku TV to an old-school stereo receiver. Wanted clearer dialogue and it seems to provide that, although both Netflix and Hulu audio settings offer only "High Treble" mode whether system audio selects DTS or Dolby. But the bass can be kicked up via the receiver. Although photos are inconsistent (some show a 4th cable, others only show 3 cables)--it does need to be plugged into a USB port on the back of the TV, and it does come with the USB cord. So there are a total of 4 cables: the optical audio that plugs into the TV, the USB that also plugs into the TV, and the red and white plugs that go into the Left and Right "audio in" ports in the receiver. Only drawback: now the Roku remote no longer controls audio volume and mute, the receiver remote controls volume and mute--so we need to jockey 2 remotes. We'll see if it's worth it but so far the dialogue is clearer without losing music and SFX, for $13 not bad. (PS, I did not receive this product free, I paid the listed price.) ... show more

I would still install the outside TV. I needed a mini amp and a DSC converter. I ordered this and even with the correct setup and troubleshooting, it never worked. Then I ordered a different brand it work perfectly

When I moved to a streaming service I lost the stereo output from my cable box which I used to play Music Choice. With this device I can use the optical output from the TV and connect to the RCA cables I ran to the receiver previously. (Older receiver without optical input.) This device was easy to install and provided theater quality sound to my new TV. I have a small amplifier driving Pioneer speakers. This device converts the fiber optic digital sound output of the TV to regular left and right channel RCA plugs which can be attached to the amplifier inputs. Power for the device can be obtained from the TV USB port using the included USB cable, or a separate USB power supply can be used. I used a separate power supply which results in no metallic connection to the TV (the fiber optic cable is non-metallic). The sound quality is quite good and the larger Pioneer speakers provide impact to the sound. The volume delivered to the speakers must be controlled by the amplifier, which is fine for an amplifier with a remote control, but less convenient if the amplifier volume doesn't have remote control. ... show more
