  • Great Adapter for Passive PoE Great Adapter for Passive PoE
I recently decided to try and power my 'fixed wireless' internet antenna from my Unifi PoE+ switch. I found out from my ISP that this antenna wouldn't use the PoE+ (802.3at) that my switch delivered, and needed 'Passive 24V PoE', he recommended this adapter. There are actually two versions, essentially they work the same, but one is for indoors and one for outdoors, I decided not to clutter my inside wiring and ordered the outside version here on Amazon. When it arrived I unhooked the existing PoE injector and installed this unit at my antenna, this outdoor version includes a weather proof compartment to plug your existing cable into (I use an outdoor rated CAT7 cable). It also includes a short 'pigtail' to plug into your device. It's all very simple and works well -- outdoor CAT7 cable is a little thick for the rubber weather collar, but it does work. I then turned on the PoE for that port on my switch (yours may be automatic), and it fired right up. Works great and I eliminated some clutter and wall warts from my installation. Nice little find! ... show more

  • Exactly what I need for active to passive poer
Functions perfectly, provides 24v poe from a poe+ source. Working without issue in an outdoor wireless bridge network.

  • Works great
I bought a tp wifi extender for outside. Didn't realize it was passive poe. Bought this and it works great!! Converts active poe to passive poe. Highly recommend! Shipping company sucks though. They lost the first one , replacement came. Seems like all shipping companies are starting to really suck. Pay for prime, supposed to be 2 day, instead I get it 2 weeks. One reason I canceled prime. No benefits worth it anymore. Not this sellers fault, I blame amazon and shipping companies. ... show more

A little bulky but ehh, it does the job.

  • These do exactly what they are supposed to do
What more can I say? They do what they are supposed to do. They convert 802.3af power to 24V passive to power your older Ubiquiti UniFi APs or AirMax stuff that requires 24V passive. Need to be mounted near the device, not near the switch. These are outdoor grade, I would suggest some silicone sealant, good drip loops. If mounted on a tower, make sure they are secure as you are adding wind load. ... show more

  • Works well and looks good too
Impressed with the construction of the device, seems reasonably sturdy. It uses a tight rubber grommet in the bottom to help weather seal the cable which is nice from a weather-proofing perspective (unlike the 10/100 outdoor model which just has a snap-on plastic cover). It does mean you can't use a pre-made cable since a plug won't fit through the hole, only the cable. Not a big deal for me since I'm used to putting ends on cables. Works at the full Gigabit speeds and works great for providing power to my passively powered Mikrotik SXT 5 ac SA. ... show more

  • It works. But it shouldn't exist, and it should be better.
This lets you attach a Ubiquiti device (such as a UniFi access point or GigaBeam) that requires passive 24V PoE to an industry-standard IEEE 802.3af PoE switch. It does that. It shouldn't be necessary; Ubiquiti has continued to use 24V-only products well past their sell-by date. 802.3af has been a standard for far too long, and you shouldn't need to buy an adapter for compatibility. It's also an awkward adapter. It's quite large. It's designed to attach directly to the device being powered, which makes sense electrically, but it's a mounting challenge. The cylindrical device provides no provision for mounting; you're going to have to Velcro, zip-tie, or duct-tape this thing to something if you don't want its not-insubstantial weight hanging from its Ethernet cord. The cord, which connects directly to the powered device and is permanently attached, is short and stiff, limiting your placement options—especially if you obey minimum-bend-radius rules. It's especially a problem when used outdoors (as this model is designed for) because Ubiquiti specifies heavy-duty shielded outdoor cable for connecting to outdoor devices; that cable is even stiffer and less bendable, meaning you're likely to have ugly loops of cable where you use this thing. If you're just looking to mate a Ubiquiti 24V PoE device to an 802.3af PoE switch, you may be better off using an inexpensive indoor adapter at your switch rather than using this. ... show more

  • Perfect for solar installation
Needed to power antenna from 802.3af switch that was powered by 12 volt battery and solar panel. Fit the bill perfectly.
