  • expressive, & precise, a real pleasure to play
Style: Keyboard
The media could not be loaded. The Nektar Impact GX61 Keyboard is a midi controller that operates via USB connection. There are many nice features that shine here, all of which can be read about in the product description, and all of which function excellently. But, the prominent feature is the keys themselves, they are just right. I could not have asked for a better interface for this price. I went for the 61 key (there is also a 49) because I really wanted to be able to jam, and I haven’t been able to stop since it arrived. I’ve tried it with Studio One, Pro-tools, and Ableton, as well as several indie VSTs, and this keyboard works great with everything. I've also been testing the included DAW, Bitwig 8-track, and it seems to be robust. With some of the programs, the assignable keys will need to be assigned for specific programs. Key weight is just right, and velocity sensitivity works great out of the box, but you can adjust it too. Pitch bend and modulation wheel feel and work great. I had looked at several other models, but I could not be happier that I went with Nektar. It's a device that I can solidly recommend. If I ever upgrade again, I know what my 1st choice will be. Feel free to ask me questions I will be happy to answer all. ... show more

  • This unit is amazing, beyond expectations!
Style: Keyboard
I am a songwriter-producer who has shifted gears into video editing. My previous keyboards were Yamaha and Roland. I've had several midi controllers namely the Akai and the Nektar LX49. The controllers were great but seemed too heavy, too light (NEKTAR) and TOO WIDE (all) for my table, workstation. I purchased the Nektar LX 49 when it first was released. Great integration with Cubase and Garageband, but too wide! The keybed was ok. Overall a very good unit. I sold it because it was too wide and wasn't comfortable on my desk. I've decided to get back into music production/programming and was looking for a new 61 key unit. I was looking at the Yamaha MX49 (blue my favorite color), but too wide, the 61 would be too long! I was looking at the Novation impulse 49, too wide as well and dated looking. I really wanted the Mini Ulta Nova or Ultranova, but it was just not the right fit at this time. I stumbled across the GX line and decided to go with the 61 key. It's amazing. Build and overall feel is much better than the original LX. The transport keys, pitch wheel, and mod feel much better than I expected, given the price. Total integration to Cubase Artist and Garageband. I would definitely recommend. The keys feel great. Totally 5-star product. Delivery was quick and item well packaged. Thank you Nektar and Amazon. ... show more

  • Not a bad midi controller, but not for me.
Style: Keyboard
I owned this midi controller for about 3 weeks before I returned it. Pros: - its synth action feels better than many other controllers double or triple its price. Its on the lighter side, springy but not spongy at all. - Black keys are comfortable to play. Unlike the Akai mpk261 which has very short black keys, this controller allows to play B or D flat major scales with ease. Black keys do require more pressure on the Akai if they are not pressed at the very bottom end. - Good velocity curves for playing pianissimo or playing with expression, except fast runs (see Con below). Chords were not a problem. - Transpose and octave buttons are very accessible. They change colors based on many semitones or octaves you have transposed. This is a big plus. - Very light to carry around. Cons: - Random velocities on fast scales or piano runs on every velocity curve setting. Every time i played fast octave run, I had a note or two being much louder than the rest (This is the main reason I returned it). Obviously it was more noticeable when I played soft. - Felt like a toy. This is my fault for expecting too much keyboard for this price. This was a secondary keyboard that I used along a Yamaha MOXF88 to allow me to play songs without changing patches on my main board. It was hard to adjust to its action after playing on the Yamaha for a while. I wanted a more professional solid built keyboard. If this keyboard had a heavier synth action and didn't have random note velocities, I would have kept it. I'm mainly a piano player that occasionally plays synth when a song requires it. ... show more
