My husband likes to watch shows and movies on TV that are not to my liking. So I purchased these to wear while he watches and I read. When I first put them on I thought they were way to tight and would give me a headache. For reference, I am a woman, 5,4, 129 pounds. But hats often seem too small so I think I have a larger head. I put them over a box that is 8 inches wide and left them there for a week. Now they are perfect and they do cut out a lot of the sound. I did not want to spend much money. The price differences vary widely. These work great for me. For this price you will not go wrong.

Great for DIY uses: cheap and effective!

I bought these to use with an electric pad sander for refinishing my floors. The machine was loud and the empty house was echo-y, but these ear muffs dampened the sound down to a level that was certainly audible, but nowhere near uncomfortable. I was even able to sneak some earbuds underneath to pipe in music while I worked. I wore them for several hours at a time and they remained comfortable and securely positioned on my head. My only complaint is that they don't stay in place with the headband going underneath your head, it must be on top of your head. It's only an issue when using a larger ventilator and/or goggles with straps that happen to run along where the earmuff band is.

Good for Teens/Adults with Developmental Disabilities

My son is almost 18 and profoundly autistic. He wears headphones more for the pressure than for the noise reduction, though they work for both. We find these to be more user-friendly for him because it doesn't have all the metal pieces that slide and they're easy for him to put on independently. He can put the headband behind his head, too, if he chooses. They fit his big head better than other styles, too. He has a tendency to accidentally snap them in half occasionally due to his size and strength, but we are used to that and just keep a few pairs on hand. Good deal for the price.

Great, depending on your needs

I'm in my mid 60s and I can hear a lot of things others my age can't. I attribute this to having always been careful when it comes to exposing myself to noise. There are times I almost think I have hyperacusis, which is an extreme hypersensitivity to sound. I react to loud noises almost as if they caused physical pain. These headphones are a good example of how careful I am: I wear them only around twenty seconds a day, when I'm using my noisy Magic Bullet blender. These headphones don't block out all the sound, just enough to take the edge off. I can't vouch for how comfortable they'd be to wear for a long time. My guess would be maybe not very: They're tight. That, for my needs, is a good thing. If you're going to mow a lawn or use a chainsaw for a couple of hours, they'd be great. If you're going to wear them on a factory floor for eight hours a day while also wearing glasses or safety goggles, you might want to consider earplugs instead. Oh, I didn't expect to get two pairs for this price. Considering my age and how long I use them, I doubt I'll wear out a pair. But it's fine with me if I have a backup on hand.

Perfect for a loud Vitamix

My 60 year old wife went to the audiologist for a hearing test during a bout of vertigo. Her hearing is fine but the audiologist suggested using ear protection for loud everyday noises such as vacuuming and using a blender. I am 62 and have been diagnosed with some hearing loss. I make multiple green smoothies every day and run my Vitamix at least four times in the morning (including cleaning it). I have been doing this without ear protection for six years. I decided to heed the advice and bought the Neiko 53925A Safety Ear Muffs. They make a world of difference for me. They block out much of the noise, are light weight and easy to clean. They are also comfortable to wear for the few minutes I have them on while using the Vitamix. For the price, I can't think of a better way to protect my hearing.
