I went with the silver option, and visually, this phone cage looks really good. It has a clean aluminum look that feels more like camera gear than a regular phone case. That is honestly one of the biggest reasons I like it so much. It gives the phone a rugged, professional, almost tactical filming-rig style without looking cheap or bulky. The build quality feels very solid. I am definitely not easy on my phone or my cases, and this one has already gotten some scratches and marks from normal use and a few drops. But with this type of aluminum design, the wear actually looks good. On a regular plastic or silicone case, scratches would probably bother me. On this cage, the scuffs almost give it character. It feels like it is breaking in over time instead of just getting damaged. The more I use it, the more unique it starts to look. One of the biggest reasons I bought this cage was for cooling, and that is where it really does make a difference. The open-back design is clearly meant to help the phone breathe and release heat better. I record a lot, film outside, and use my phone pretty heavily, so overheating has always been annoying. With this cage, the phone still gets warm during heavy recording or outdoor use, but it does not heat up nearly as badly as it used to. The open design makes the phone cool down much faster. I also take my phone with me when I work out and go into the sauna, and this cage has made a massive difference there. My phone does not overheat the way it normally would. Since the back is open, heat escapes much more easily. One thing I have done before is cool it down quickly because the open back gives direct access to the phone, and it drops the temperature much faster than a closed case would. That is one of the coolest practical benefits of this design. The feel in the hand is also excellent. I actually use this as my daily case because I love how it feels. It is not a soft comfort case, obviously, but it feels strong, precise, and premium. It gives the phone a very secure, high-end feel. It also makes the phone feel more like a serious tool for filming and content creation rather than just a regular phone. There are a few things buyers should know, though. First, because the back is open, your actual phone can get scratched if you do not protect it. The case itself is not covering the back glass the way a traditional case would. I solved that by buying a simple gel/plastic back protector for my iPhone, which only cost around $6, and that fixed the issue for me. I would definitely recommend doing that if you care about keeping the back of your phone clean. Second, some USB-C charging cables may not fit if the plug housing is too bulky. The original iPhone-style USB-C charger or any slim USB-C plug fits just fine, but thicker cables can be a problem. Not a dealbreaker, just something to be aware of. The biggest critique is that, because this is a metal/aluminum cage, it can sometimes interfere with phone signal or GPS. That is not really surprising because most metal phone cases or cages can do that, but it is worth mentioning. I use this case 24/7, so I notice it more than someone who only uses it for filming. When I am driving, I usually just pop the phone out of the cage, especially if I need reliable GPS. Thankfully, the design makes it pretty easy to open and remove the phone when needed. For some people, the GPS or signal interference might be a big downside. For me, I expected that going in, and the case looks and feels so good that it is still worth it. I mostly bought it for the look, the protection, the aluminum build, and the cooling benefits, and it delivers very well on all of those. Overall, I really like this phone cage. The silver aluminum looks excellent, the scratches age nicely and give it character, the cooling performance is noticeably better than a normal case, and it feels premium enough that I use it every day. It is not perfect, and you should know about the open-back scratching risk, bulky charger issue, and possible GPS/signal interference. But for me, the positives easily outweigh those downsides. I would definitely give it five stars. It looks amazing, feels durable, helps with heat, and gives the phone a unique style that regular cases just do not have.

I wanted to really like this cage, and I do, but it has some flaws that may or may not be deal breakers. Som first of the construction and machining is solid. It feels rigid and well made with relatively well made corners and edges. My phone fits snuggly without scraping the aluminum which is nice. The design to attach filters is secure and easy and is nice to throw on an nd if you want. Now onto the issues. Firstly the whole glass back is exposed. I suppose this is so you can still do magsafe but it makes the glass back so vulnerable. I think they really did this to save material. If they wanted to save aluminum they could have just done plastic idc. My other big gripe is that the attachment rail things in the sides are all proprietary to Neewer accessories which I really dont want to buy. I already have a neewer handle for my mirrorless camera which lol doesn’t even work with this cage. I wish they would make something to attach to my standard tripod quick release. Other than those two kinda glaring issues its a solid cage if you just want to use an nd and will attach your phone to tripod using the 1/4” screw.

I really, really wanted to like this cage but I can’t in good faith recommend it to anyone. For one, the bottom of the cage is so bulky around the USB port that you cannot attach usb accessories like wireless mic receivers because there’s simply not enough room. My other big complaint is that the filter ring adapter is VERY WEAK at the attachment point to the cage itself, and in fact it broke the second time I ever used it. I will give NEEWER customer service credit.. they sent me another one free of charge, but what’s the point if it’s just going to break again. Good built quality, ruined by several design flaws.

This is a very well-made phone cage for the iPhone 17 Pro, especially if you want to use the phone for video, content creation, or more serious mobile photography. The aluminum frame feels sturdy and premium, and the machining is clean. It looks and feels much more like camera gear than a regular phone case. The main reason to get this is the accessory support. The included backplates make it easy to use 67mm filters, 17mm phone lenses, or Moment T-Series lenses, depending on your setup. That adds a lot of flexibility for filming, vlogging, livestreaming, or shooting photos with more control over the final image. The threaded mounting points are also useful for adding handles, lights, microphones, SSD mounts, or tripod accessories. The quick-release design is convenient, and the phone fits securely once mounted. I also like that it still leaves access to important controls, including the camera control area. The colored silicone button caps are a small but nice detail. This also works surprisingly well for heat. Since the back is open, the phone has more airflow than it would in a sealed case. That can help during longer recording sessions or outdoor shooting, where overheating can become a problem. Wonderful that modern phones can shoot cinema-quality video and then immediately try to cook themselves. Progress, apparently. There are some tradeoffs. The open back means the rear glass is exposed, so I would use a separate back protector if you care about scratches. It also adds bulk, so this is not the most comfortable daily pocket case. Some thicker USB-C cables may not fit through the bottom opening, and because it is metal, there is always a chance of some signal or GPS interference depending on how and where you use it. Overall, this is a strong option for anyone who wants to turn an iPhone 17 Pro into a more capable filming setup. As a camera cage, it is sturdy, flexible, and well-designed. As a normal everyday case, it is a little overbuilt and less protective on the back. Best for creators, not someone just trying to doomscroll in peace.

As a professional video producer (nearly 40 years of broadcast, commercial, film, corporate, web), you never have enough tools. The industry changes, your clients' needs evolve, and every shoot situation is different. The only constant is the need to evolve with the industry, or risk becoming a dinosaur. I choose evolution. iPhones have been producing quality images for years now, and every once in a while you'll even see a watchable feature film produced on an iPhone. No, they're not just taking their phone out of their pocket and grabbing shots. They've rigged up the phone with external storage which allows for a better recording format, quality external microphones and of course great lighting. But one of the most important elements in any photography is the ability to control the amount and the quality of light that hits your sensor. In other words ... lenses and filters. This lightweight and strong cage is a handy platform for adding everything you need. There are three different filter and lens adapters, as well as numerous 1/4-20 female mounting holes to attach handles, microphone receivers, lights, grip arms, external drives ... whatever you need. So, yes, your phone CAN be used to create beautiful images or video. You just need the proper accessories, and this rig gets you part of the way there. They've also included a few color options for the camera button cover, with the common new phone colors of blue, orange, black, and gray. And the cage itself is fairly trim and attractive. So, if you want to look really tough, you could just use this as your protective case while walking around town. Pretty good kit for the price.
