Nice soft dreamy effect. Quality clear glass at a good price, like most things from Neewer brand. Good but reasonable. How My Star Rating System Works & What They Mean: 1 STAR - Pretty much junk and I would return and ask for a refund if I could. 2 STAR - It works, but barely meets the minimum requirements it should in order to keep it and not return it, but I would not order again. 3 STAR - It does what it was designed to do, but there's nothing really special about it. It's acceptable but not great. 4 STAR - I am very comfortable recommending it to a friend because it is is well made, durable, and delivers on its advertised features, and I would buy it again. 5 STAR - I really love it. The item exceeds my expectations of quality, durability and functionality. Not only would I purchase it again, but I would also actively encourage friends and family to to do the same. All of my reviews are my own personal opinion and are completely honest no matter if I receive an item for free or I pay for it. This Neewer 1/4 black diffusion does exactly what I was expecting it to. It comes in a well constructed pouch and fits in with my other standard sized 4x5.65 pouches. In my testing, it was quite easy to see the effect in the shadows, with raised blacks, which lowers the contrast. This makes the image a little less punchy, but often that is a look I want. As you can see in my tree image, strong backlights cause lots of halation. When shooting against a bright background with less direct light (see flower pictures), the halation is much less pronounced. This filter also smooths out a little bit of sharpness, helping to give modern digital sensors a more "organic" look. I usually tend to prefer diffusion of this type in the 1/8 strength, as it's slightly less strong while still adding just a touch of softness and halation to the image. In the 1/4 strength tested here, I need to be a bit more careful about strong light sources washing things out a bit too much (unless that's the specific look I'm going for). I don't bring that up as a problem with this product, but more as my personal preference. This filter is doing exactly what it should and seems to be made of high quality glass, but at a much more affordable price than some of the competing black diffusions out there. It's an excellent product and certainly has its use cases that I look forward to exploring more.

This Black Pro-Mist type filter is great. Very nice material, although kind of thick (and heavy). It comes with a protective cushioned slip-in cover with a magnetic lock and a cleaning cloth. The optical quality of the filter is good, with light loss of just a 1/10 stop and a minor color shift of -30 K (Kelvin), meaning a slight light temperature cool down toward the yellow side of the spectrum. It looks and behaves as the best filters out there.

It Does give you the Halation effect Blooming The Highlights and Lifting the Shadows a Bit, It does reduce contrast and it's kind of strong In my opinion for a 1/4 strength so be mindful. Overall I like it and if you have super sharp lenses this will take off that digital edge from your footage

I've been getting into square filters lately. I recently picked up a Matte Box and several NEEWER square filters. This one is a black diffusion mist which creates a 'dreamy', cinematic and atmospheric effect. I use it most frequently when I'm photographic cityscapes at night--preferably with wet streets. I've got a ton of gear from NEEWER and their formula doesn't deviate: excellent products at value prices. Highly recommended!
