  • This is going to sound crazy…
Size: 240 Ounce (Pack of 1)
OK. Just bear with me on this wild ride. It’s going to sound insane but here it is. A little over a year ago, our senior dog was diagnosed with diabetes and we were told to make preparations to have him put down. I knew he was overweight. Through an Amazon search, I came across Fat Dogs. Honestly, just because I thought the name was hilarious and it had mostly good reviews, I thought we would give it a try. Long story short, after switching to this food, our big man turn his health around. He is still a little overweight and he gets arthritis pills and insulin shots, but he is still 12 years old and thriving and healthier than he was a year and a half ago. My husband and I began joking that this is a miracle food. We have two other dogs that were eating store-bought kibble. Two months ago, our second boy was diagnosed with prostate cancer. We were told we only had a couple months left with him and things were not looking good. We started feeding him fat dogs as well. The results of his bloodwork from yesterday show that his kidney function is better than ever and although he still has cancer, he is healthy and energetic and happy. Oh I understand it sounds crazy that we contribute to the health of our boys to this dog food, but it sure seems that way! They are both happy and healthy for what they have going on. We are not taking any chances and we will be feeding this food to all of our dogs for the rest of their lives. ... show more

  • Dog Likes It! Makes Him Fart!
Size: 80 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I bought the Natural Balance Fat Dogs Low Calorie Chicken Meal Salmon Meal, Garbanzo Beans, Peas & Oatmeal Adult Low-Calorie Dry Dog Food for Overweight Dogs, 6 lbs. bag. Yep. I have me an older, chubby ACD mixed breed dog! He is very cute and has been a such sweet dog ever since I adopted him as a 2 year old, from a shelter 13 years ago. This past year, my dog has become very greedy for food and bugs me for food all day long, which he never used to do. And, he as put on a few extra pounds, even though I have still been feeding him his normal brand of the dry food, which he has eaten pretty much since I got him. BUT, the canned food, which was also the Natural Balance brand, that I used a tablespoonful at dinner-time to make a bit of a gravy mixed with his dry food, has been very difficult to find since COVID. Now, it appears the Natural Balance canned food has been discontinued! I have had no choice but to switch over and try a few different brands of canned food, depending on what I could find! I kind of suspect that regardless of the brands I try now, they do not work as well with my dog's metabolism like the Natural Balance canned food did. I took my sweet, but now Fat Dog to the Vet for a full exam when I started noticing his greedy food behavior and his weight gain. I was suspecting Diabetes or Cushing, or something. But the Vet said he was fine, but just getting old. He did suggest I find a lower calorie dry kibble and look for that with whatever brands of the canned food I could find, which is what I've done. So, I bought a 5 lbs. bag of this Natural Balance Fat Dogs Food, and my dog really does seem to like it. I wanted to start with the small bag 1st, to be sure he would even eat it, and to see if he had any weird reactions to it. So far, he really likes the food and the food looks and smells fine. But after just a few days of my doggo happily consuming it, he started to have loud, stinky farts! Oh my they were loud! I was blaming my husband, as he farts all the time. He kept saying it was my dog, so I'd just laugh it off. But then yesterday, the silly dog came up to me to pester me for a snack, and all of a sudden he cut a huge, loud, long, odoriferous fart! The poor dog either got embarrassed of he scared himself, because he ran back to his bed and then just looked at me like he'd done something very wrong. I did not yell at him or anything like that, I was just so surprised at how loud it was, coming from a medium sized dog. It sounded like a horse fart! So now I have more carefully looked-over the ingredient list for this Dry Fat Dogs Dog food. I do notice that Garbanzo Beans and Peas are the 3'd and 4'th ingredients! Well, there the problem is! I sure know what legumes, all beans and peas, do to me, ha, ha! I know even better what they do to my husband, who notoriously eats a bean burrito, or split peas soup just about every single day for his lunch! So, now I have another Fart Monster in the house ,if I keep feeding him this Fat Dogs dog food. Time will tell if he looses any weight on this food. If he does, then I might keep feeding him this. But, I also am already looking for alternatives that will not be so gassy. UPDATE 02/10/2023: So my dog has eaten all of the 5 lb. bag, and I bought the 28 lb. bag for him that he has been eating currently. Since my dog has been eating this food for a few weeks, I have found that besides all the farting he now does, he has also been creating larger and firmer turds. Firmer turds for him is actually a good thing, as all of his life he has had somewhat looser turds. But these babies are about twice the size of his usual creations now! I guess that would be from all the fiber and legumes in the food. Anyway, I have NOT noticed ANY weight loss yet, but this food does seem to curb his incessant pestering of me for food all day long. I do feed him 2 meals a day. Morning he gets this kibble with a bit of warm water in it to soften it a bit. Evening he get this with about a tablespoon full of canned food mixed with warm water to make a gravy for the kibble. He seems to love this food both ways that I serve it. UPDATE 03/20/2023: Well, now it looks like I can't get this Fat Dog food from Amazon anymore, since it is always out-of-stock, or no longer available in my area! What is going on with the Natural Balance Dog food Company? 1st the canned food goes extinct! Now this Fat Dog Dry Kibble too? What a pain it is to try to buy decent dog food now-a-days! ... show more

  • My not quite so fatty girl!
Size: 448 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Okay well.. it's been one month since my fat girl started eating this Fat Dog food!! We have 4 dogs (shepherd mix, chocolate lab, and two yellow labs.. the fatty is one of the two yellow labs that are from the same litter and the youngest ) and the other three are very slim and trim even the lab from her same litter, we have just the one fatty!! So, how do you manage to give just the fat one the diet food? We tried feeding her away from the others but that didn't work.. then we found a little 7 inch tall bucket that we had gotten from a home improvement store... and tried that since the walls were taller than a reg dog food dish and the while she had her head in the bucket, the others couldn't stick their heads down in it and eat it while she did. Well, it didn't take long before she realized that 'her food' was coming out of the 'special bag' and not the regular bin that they've always had their scoops from. She started keeping an eye on her 'new bucket'. And running over to keep the others from stealing her leftovers! So, within 2-3 days, she soon realized that unlike their regular ceramic or steel dog bowls.. this one was light and easy to lift and was extremely PORTABLE!! Yes! She now carries HER ' SPECIAL FOOD' everywhere she goes!! And we don't fill it to the bigger meal all at once amount... but just a handful or two, at a time now, so she doesn't spill it everywhere! I even have a tall pedestal bed with the tall doggie stairs and she brings it with her to bedtime!! She does however, apparently believe in the rule.. that "you don't 'poop' where you eat!" Because she leaves her bucket right inside the back door at our feet as she gets let out into the back yard! And as soon as she's finished her business.. she runs right back inside and retrieves her bucket, to lug it all around the house! In regards to the food, as soon as she does spill any.. the other three all come running and clean it up almost as fast as she spilled it!! They all LOVE it apparently!! And it's smaller pieces than the big chunks she was getting, so she's not choking on the big pieces that she didn't chew up enough! And right before we started her on this, (this was the first time trying diet dog food because I was always afraid that it would cost too much because all 4 dogs would end up eating it, instead of just the fatty!) I had gotten all the dogs new fancy collars. She had such a fat roll around her neck, that the collar just fell off over her head. So, I hung it up and left it put away! It's been about a month now since she started eating this food.. and we just bought our second bag, to have when this one is empty. It's getting close! It's hard to judge if it actually is a month per large bag because I was supplementing with fresh meat and fresh veggies, (so she didn't get sick of eating the same exact thing every single day!) plus spillage the others ate, plus nap times when her bucket was up for grabs by any of the other dogs. Anyways, I took the collar out today to give it a try.. and yay!! It almost fits again!!! She still has a section of her fat roll at the back of her neck, but the front and sides has gotten much thinner!! Also, her energy level has gotten much better.. she now runs around the yard more with the others, whereas before she would find a comfy spot and just relax in the sun! So, yes I would recommend this to a friend. I do plan on keeping her on it until I can get her down to a good, more slender look. I am extremely happy with this product!! I am so thankful to have found it here on amazon!! ... show more
