My dog has been eating Natural Balance LID food since I rescued her in 2018. My previous dog (RIP) ate it, too. We recently switched from the duck to the salmon combo at the vet’s suggestion. Apparently the Omega-3s in salmon are best for active dogs like mine. She loves it and is super shiny. So many dogs have gastrointestinal problems. Mine doesn’t and I attribute it to good mutt genes and this food. The benefit for me? The LID makes her #2 very firm and easy to pick up. No soft ice cream. I am a city dweller with no back yard so I have to dispose of it properly. My only complaint is the price. The bag has gotten smaller and the price has risen. It’s worth it, though. Hence the 5 stars. I recommend this brand and this variety specifically. ... show more

Like the limited and simple ingredients. Used for a few months. However my dog has a very sensitive stomach and we had to switch to a prescription stomach food. Would use this again with another dog.

My dogs love this. They’re littermates and have food allergies and food sensitivities. I’ve bought just about every Limited Ingredient dog food there is. Natural Balance is a reliable brand. I keep coming back to it. My dogs enjoy it and it doesn’t hurt their stomachs at all (a problem with some other brands). My only issue is it gives them stinky breath. I brush my dogs teeth daily. They’ve always had normal healthy dog breath. When they eat this food - it’s kind of fishy and stinky, hot breath. I guess it’s the particular kind of fish oil they add in. It’s the 8th ingredient in a long list of ingredients so that means there’s a decent amount of it in there. Anyways, I deal with the breath because this is a food I can trust for my dogs dietary needs - just thought I’d mention the drawback. The kibble is a larger circular kibble, usually light brown in color. It does have a fishy, kibble scent when scooping it into the dog bowls. There’s usually a ton of crumbs in Natural Balance bags - more than other brands - doesn’t matter to me or my dogs - but it can be messy when serving it. And like I said - my dogs really like it (to be fair - they’ve never been picky - but they really go after their meals so I know they enjoy this). As far as Sweet Potato being the first ingredient - well, that’s the case with most Limited Ingredient food these days. I definitely recommend this. My dogs do very well on it. ... show more

    • FORMULA CHANGE...PUKEY EPISODES

I purchased the NB Lamb & Rice formula for half of my German Shepherds life until we found out from a gastrointerologist that he became intolerant to lamb. Already facing difficulties with him being allergic to basically EVERYTHING, we switched to the Sweet Potatoe & Salmon formula. Everything seemed great until around October 2022, when my Shepherd suddenly started throwing up immediately after eating. At first, we blamed new meds since he switched medications due to Osteoarthritis and figured his body needed time to adjust. After a month of this, we finally had enough because his medications aren't cheap and he was not only throwing up his food (money lost) but also his meds (money wasted). Due to such severe allergies along w/ extreme digestive issues, I switched him to strictly Blue Buffalo wet food. So far, he has adjusted well and no more pukey episodes. Since our Lab has skin allergy issues as well, we switched her to the Salmon/Sweet Potatoe bags left over from our Shepherd as to not waste anymore money and seems to be doing ok so far. I understand prices have gone up due to ingredient shortages/inflation. However, I'd much more prefer to pay more for the same brand and SAME INGREDIENTS than to try and substitute for similar but not the same ingredients. So many pets have severe food allergies, just like humans, and it angers me when companies try to jip consumers of the truth just to save a buck. I guarantee many pet parents, like myself, would be more than willing to pay more to get a product that works rather than having ingredients switched and then us having to spend an arm and a leg with vet visits, food changes and clean-ups that are entirely unnecessary and stressful to both owner/pet. A caring, good owner doesn't ever like to see their pet suffer and it breaks our heart to see them not well. So, unfortunately, I have to now buy wet food in bulk and deal with stinky breath from the bacteria that lingers within the gums and now am paying double in price buying dental chews to mask a problem that wouldn't be there if companies actually cared about their customers. I will still continue to purchase for our Lab, at least until she starts to have issues too, but buyers beware if your dog has severe allergies, you might want to try a small bag first before committing to larger purchases. ... show more

My dogs loved the food until one of them was diagnosed with a health issue and can no longer eat this food. Unable to return it, BUT customer service was able to issue me a refund.
