My dogs love this. They’re littermates and have food allergies and food sensitivities. I’ve bought just about every Limited Ingredient dog food there is. Natural Balance is a reliable brand. I keep coming back to it. My dogs enjoy it and it doesn’t hurt their stomachs at all (a problem with some other brands). My only issue is it gives them stinky breath. I brush my dogs teeth daily. They’ve always had normal healthy dog breath. When they eat this food - it’s kind of fishy and stinky, hot breath. I guess it’s the particular kind of fish oil they add in. It’s the 8th ingredient in a long list of ingredients so that means there’s a decent amount of it in there. Anyways, I deal with the breath because this is a food I can trust for my dogs dietary needs - just thought I’d mention the drawback. The kibble is a larger circular kibble, usually light brown in color. It does have a fishy, kibble scent when scooping it into the dog bowls. There’s usually a ton of crumbs in Natural Balance bags - more than other brands - doesn’t matter to me or my dogs - but it can be messy when serving it. And like I said - my dogs really like it (to be fair - they’ve never been picky - but they really go after their meals so I know they enjoy this). As far as Sweet Potato being the first ingredient - well, that’s the case with most Limited Ingredient food these days. I definitely recommend this. My dogs do very well on it.

I'm glad I switched to this product. It doesn't smell thankfully and my dogs seem to enjoy the taste. I immediately noticed the color difference in their stool. It's much darker and more solid, while before it was lighter in color and soft (which I can only assume is from fillers) they go to the bathroom less and take longer to get hungry. I also like how it's not too high in protein since my dogs are not overly active. I recommend

When my large older dog who's a terrier breed was diagnosed with early signs of possible kidney issues and elevated protein levels showing in his urine, I knew it was the right time for me to consider making changes in the type of dog food I was currently feeding him. The question posed before me was which brand to choose as a substitute. My dog always had allergies to chicken including wheat and soy which is why I always in the past purchased a grain free dog food anyhow. Natural Balance fortunately still met those same requirements and it also doesn't irritate his stomach which is a common problem occurrence when you feed a senior pet. I especially like the fact that this formula is also lower in protein at 24% compared to his previous brand of dog food which was rated at 35% or even higher. Typically, anything g over 30% could be considered a high protein dog food. A level of 24% is only considered moderate and a considerable reduction even by my vet's strict standards. I've also read somewhere how sometimes giving your dog peas in their diet can also upset their stomach and I was happy to see that peas are not listed in the product ingredients anywhere. Finally, I needed to choose a dog food that has a lower level of phosphorus per serving to possibly help his kidney function and surprisingly many other brands don't even list the phosphorus level which for me was a bit concerning. That's why I'm so glad the the Limited Ingredients version sold here by Natural Balance has a phosphorus level of only .60 min. Very few brands if any out there in the marketplace appear to list phosphorus levels on their bags as being any lower. Trust me I cross- checked dozens of other major brands and I couldn't find any. Last of all, my dog really loves the taste of this Salmon formula and it doesn't leave him with a fishy breath smell afterwards like other brands sometimes have a tendency to do so. Some reviewers expressed concerns about their dog's stools being somewhat darker or even firmer. That's a typical characteristic of most grain free dog foods and my vet assured me that it wasn't anything I should be overly concerned about. This is the second bag here at Amazon that I've bought just recently and I highly recommend it. I couldn't be any happier and I wish all dogs Happy Tails and Bone Appetit.

One of the few foods that my dog's stomach can tolerate! And so we're not messing with it, cause we had some baaaaaaaaad days when he was eating some other brand food. I'll spare you. :P As far as flavor, I gave it 4 stars because I can't say that I've personally tried it! So I'm going off my dog's preference that he does tend to skip a meal here and there, which means it can't taste out of this world or he wouldn't do that! But he is also very happy to eat it, which means it's gotta be pretty good. :)
