  • The map is a wild, sprawling poem of the great American night
Format: Paperback
The map is a wild, sprawling poem of the great American night, man, a holy grid of blue highways and red-hot interstates screaming out from the page like a bebop solo in a smoky cellar. You hold this Nat Geo atlas and you aren't just looking at paper; you’re looking at the golden road stretching out to the West, through the salt flats and the neon ghosts of Denver, past the lonely filling stations where the wind howls about the absolute "it" of the universe. It’s got every jagged peak and hidden creek laid out in a madness of detail that makes your heart pound against your ribs, reminding you that the only truth is the movement, the speed, and the grand, shimmering "everywhere" that’s waiting for you just past the next bend in the road. It’s the Bible for the road-burned soul, the hobo, and the seeker, a heavy-bound promise that as long as there’s a mile left to drive, we’re all gonna be okay under that big, sprawling sky. - Sal Paradise ... show more

  • Peace of mind
Format: Paperback
Bought this atlas for traveling. You never know when your internet won’t work. It’s peace of mind for us. Well made and worth the money.

  • Handy size for the car
Format: Paperback
I bought this atlas specifically for the size: not so small that I cannot read it but not so big that I cannot hold it with one hand. When closed, it is about the size of copy paper. When it is open, it is twice that size. With any atlas, designers have to make difficult decisions -- such as how much space to give each state. In this atlas, California gets two pages, while Montana gets one, as does New Jersey. Alaska and Hawaii share one page -- which adds to the problem of some people not understanding how they can have such different climates when they are so close to each other. (Seriously. Try teaching high school!) But to be able to see an overview of a trip or to figure out how far I am from the next major town, it's quite functional. I find the scenic drive information and the city maps to be superfluous, but they do not detract from the utility of the state maps. ... show more

  • Great illustrations.
Format: Paperback
Lost the old one. It was outdated anyway.

  • Small atlas
Format: Paperback
It's smaller than the old AAA atlases and harder to read. Larger size would be better for trip planning.

  • Old school maps
Format: Paperback
I bought one for each of my kids. I believe in being prepared for the unknown during road trips.

  • Great Road Atlas
Format: Paperback
Love this road Atlas. It is just the right size and has detailed maps of National Parks. GPS is great but a road atlas gives you a better overview.
