This pottery wheel and accessories work exactly as described. I highly recommend watching the videos that are associated with this wheel (QR code provided inside included instructions) for help with assembly and use of this wheel. The set up takes less than 10 minutes. The wheel is lightweight enough that it is very easy to set up for use and then to store afterwards if you don't have a place to keep it permanently set up. The concept is certainly easy enough for young (supervised) children as long as you're in an area where it can get messy. I found the centering tool and the opening tool to be interesting concepts. I'm not sure that either are much easier than just using your hands/fingers and I'm also not sure why you would want to train an aspiring potter to rely on these tools but it is probably helpful for true beginners and I could see it being helpful in a classroom type setting. The wheel definitely looks 'bland'. There's no fun color or pop to it - looks pretty 'kid-friendly industrial'. However, I'm certain exactly that look will appeal to some. The current priced of $139.99 (Amazon price as of 7.18.23) is getting close to the price of a full size wheel - so I do think it's a bit pricey. It is good to note that although this set comes with 3 one pound packages of air dry clay - it does not come with any finishing paints. Also - as a reminder, you cannot drink or eat out of air dry clay. You can throw true pottery clay on this wheel - but you will need access to a kiln in order to fire the thrown piece. Overall, a nice pottery wheel for beginners. I will let my grandchildren throw on this wheel while supervised (setting up a table in a shady area of the backyard and I will rinse all clay outside (do not put clay down your plumbing)).. I definitely appreciate that it's lightweight, easy to assemble/disassemble, and can guide centering and opening with the included tools. ... show more

    • Fun, with great instructions
The wheel is packaged really well, so it shouldn't be damaged in shipping. The instructions include a QR code that gets you to a whole lot of videos. These are really good and helpful for setting it up, how it works, how to use it, things about the clay and what to do with clay.... all kinds of stuff. It seems pretty sturdy, and I expect it to hold up under reasonably normal usage. It came with air dry clay, which is what my daughter used. Do make sure that you are using this in a place that is okay to get wet, as you are supposed to use a lot of water while working with this (which does help a lot) and it is messy! It comes with some decent clay tools that will help (and there are videos that show how to use them.) ... show more

I got this pottery wheel for my daughter (and myself) and she has found a new hobby. We had always talked about it and the family recently saw the movie Ghost which planted a seed. When she got this gift. I love that this has pulled her away from her phone or gossip talk with friends and let her drift into another world. There are great benefits that comes from pottery making. Stress relief, meditation, and many other you can search for online. I myself started doing some pottery and has help me by connecting with her and sharing a common experience. My wife feels that it is a bit too messy, but has used the kit a couple of times. So this is a great family or individual gift. I have never had or used a pottery wheel before, so this is new to me. My goal is to try making miniature pottery for my dollhouses, but i think i will have to build up to those projects as this will take some mastering. It comes with different accessories and tools for your first projects, including air dry clay. It was an exciting experiment to use and i hope to play with it more over time. ... show more

This is a good set for beginners. I got this for my 11, 13, 4 year old to try pottery and see if they are interested and then from there we can go take some classes. It comes with the clay to start with, instructions are clear after reading them a few times. It's fun for when kids come over for playdates because not very kids have actually done this. ... show more

    • Pottery wheel for beginners
This is amazing. They really did make it so easy to learn how to use one of these. My 4 yr old son and I tried this out and it was my first time doing it as well as teaching him how to do it. The instructions they gave made it so easy, I just followed them step by step and we almost had a bowl hahaha. We would have actually had a beautiful bowl, but I let him keep spinning it instead of taking it off and eventually the sides separated from the base. However the clay the provided can actually be reused if you haven't left it out to dry. They send you EVERYTHING you need to get started and we had so much fun! I loved having the attachments on the overhead handle, bc it made the process so much easier to learn, having tools to get you used to starting your clay. This is such a great investment I think!
