  • Maybe not just like the picture in the product listing, but we had fun!
We had so much fun doing this project. My 8-year-old son was doing an ocean habitat project, and we needed something that looked like a coral reef. I found this kit on Amazon would be a neat project to add to his habitat scene. The directions were simple and the results quite fast! I echo what others say about the markers - it takes some time to color the trees because there isn't a lot of ink in the markers. Also, the orange didn't come through for us on the actual crystal. But we took time to color all trees as thoroughly as possible - right before bedtime. Then, my son went to bed so excited to see what he'd wake up to the next day. He wasn't disappointed when he woke up! They had fully bloomed. I would caution that these trees are incredibly FRAGILE! The crystals themselves are almost like powder on the trees and can fall off easily. Additionally, the trees in their stands aren't anchored very well - they really just sit in the stand and aren't fixed there. When we were done with the trees, I let my son "destroy" them, which really meant just brushing the crystals off the trees :). But, it felt oddly satisfying for him. I did have him wash his hands due to the residue. All that being said, I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. It was cool, interesting, and quite beautify. Our family loved this. ... show more

  • Super fun!
We’re only three days into growing and look at this beauty!!! This ones in a glass because we wanted to watch them grow and it’s easier to see through, but the growing containers included will be much easier to extract the finished crystals I’m sure. Today we mixed two together so see if any differences may occurred, we’ll see! My lil’ peeps (5 & 3) love science kits but they can all be sorta similar so this was a great change with new lessons and the booklet was a nice way for me to explain the whole crystal making presses with them. ... show more

  • Did its thing....soft and delicate.
It did its "crystal" grow thing and our daughter who is 8 liked it. We put it on a time lapse which was fun. However, note it is not hard crystal at all, (like rock candy or other fun kid projects) but a super soft salt. And I mean SOFT. You so much as move the thing and the salt growth falls right off the tree. Very delicate so keep this in mind. Also the colors do not appear as they do in the box photos. That is highly misleading. The pink gets on the ends or so, not embedded all inside the growth. its mostly white. But overall it was fun. ... show more

  • Super fun for us and our 4yr old.
Within a half-hour we started to see actual progress(we startedaround 11am). By bedtime(7pm) they were complete. It was great to have such a quick reaction. We have used some other crystal kits that took almost a week (maybe longer) to complete. The kid had a great time it took about an hour for her to color and prep everything (so an hour of calm, quite, focused hands on fun). It was great for a stuck inside (for to long) snow/rain day activity. She was able to, not only check the crystals progress as the day moved on, which made her so happy, but there was actual and definite progress (growth) each time she did. It made her feel like "a real scientist growing crystals ". Although I don't know that I would call what we grew actual 'crystals', more a soft powder that looks like crystals until you touch them and it almost disintegrates or crumbles away. Also the markers it came with were a bit dry so the green was minimal and the pink and orange didn't have alot of color due to dry ink(we will use our markers next time). But we will reorder this again I'm sure of it. ... show more

  • Ok product
Was really cool to watch but the crystals were soft and fell off all over the place. The price was a little high for the item I feel. Put them somewhere you won’t move them if you want to keep them for awhile.

  • Self Directed Learning
I bought the pack for my 7-year-old niece. She is having trouble with reading in school but has excellent math, science, and critical thinking skills. She was so excited to experiment with the kit she performed the entire growth process on her own. The ability to take on the project unassisted has boosted her confidence in her abilities and I am looking forward to purchasing more kits in the future. The crystals grew as pictured and the ability to color the trees only heightened the experience for her. ... show more

  • So cool!
This was so cool and fun to do! I know it’s technically for 8+ but I did this with my 4 yr old and he LOVED it! This would be a great gift for someone’s kid. The crystals fall off very easily so be careful there but it’s an easy clean up if they do fall.

  • Fun, but can't keep finished crystals
Bought these for my kids (6 and 7 years) they loved them! Easy to do and the reaction happens fast, so great if your kids are a bit impatient. The downside is you can't keep them. The crystals ate brittle and fall apart easily, the box even instructs them to be throw out after around a day. My kids were kinda sad about that, however the kit was still fun. ... show more
