The media could not be loaded. Poor quality control. Discovered after having the tank running for a month that the seals on the filter section werent done right and they came loose. Contacted warrenty claim twice on thr JBJ website and no word back. Wont be buying from this company again. Got everything cycled and thriving and now i got to tear it down and redo the silicon. I see a lot of reviews ragging on this aquarium for not being set up right, people having issues with the filter, etc: I've had it set up for almost a 18 months and it is one of my favorite tanks, but it does take some dialing in. The pump provided does not have adjustable flow, so likely you'll need to replace it or add an inline throttle valve (I did the latter), and then the flow rate needs to be matched to the density of whatever filter media you choose to use (I like that it is fully-customizable in this way: if you want everything figured out ahead of time to set it up perfectly right out of the box, buy something else). I set this up as a dirted and planted tank, with a Fluval Plant 3.0 light. I use the first chamber as a refugium, and just have a foam block in the bottom to keep the second chamber filter media from slumping into the first chamber. I keep my media in mesh bags and I use ceramic beads, coarse carbon, and finer carbon (water flows through them in that order), with a multilayer filter sponge cut to fit at the top to smooth the flow into the pump chamber. I currently have four tanks (have had as many as eight at a time), and this is the one worthy of my office: beautiful, low-maintenance, and quiet. ... show more

I've gone through four of these aquariums now, each made May 2021, each with faulty silicone. In every case I received them in September 2024, and upon opening the boxes, they still smelled of silicone. In each case, there were bubbles between the seams. Only one of them did I fill, and within a week or two, the bubbles were getting larger, and additional bubbles were forming. I drained it before it had a chance to dump water all over my floor, but I ended up having to purchase a different aquarium to house my livestock, so I can reseal the aquariums with working silicone. I even went through the manufacturer and tried to do a warranty replacement on them. I was still sent faulty aquariums with bad silicone that will not hold water. ... show more
