One challenge we have when we lose weight is that sometimes it might look like we've hit a plateau. Really, this usually means the body is slimming down but as we convert from fat to muscle we aren't "loosing weight" at the moment. A tape measure can help show this! I've used several different kinds of tape measures in the past. Usually the problem is you're trying to hold the two ends of the tape measure in place while figuring out what they say. Often I have to call in my boyfriend to help out. For a variety of reasons there are many people who cannot or do not want help in this area :) That's where the MyoTape tape measure comes in. I actually got this for myself solely because I had lost my old tape measures and needed one, and it was the top result on Amazon and looked easy to use. So I wasn't out seeking a "new and improved" tape measure. That being said, when I got this in the house I was really impressed that it WAS much easier to use than my previous ones. You hold the handle, which is nice and solid and well shaped to grab onto. Then if you want you can "make the loop" and step into it, or pull the loose end around, depending on what part of you you are measuring. But the nice thing is you can keep everything loose while you get it into place. Once you are close to where you want it to be, you push the button on the unit and it automatically snugs up. So you don't have to try to hold it in a certain spot or try to make sure you're holding it "tightly enough" or "loose enough". It always snugs up to the same level of tension. You only need to hold with one hand because the unit has connected into its closed loop. This means it's VERY easy to then look at the numbers and see what the total measurement is. You don't have to add or subtract - the unit is set up so that the number you see is the total number. Well recommended! There are ALL sorts of situations where you "seem to be not losing weight" but really your body is getting slimmer. This is a great way to keep track of your progress!

In short, I love this product. I previously had been only relying on my scale and it's fairly inaccurate body fat percentage, to track my weight-loss progress. As a serious fat-cutter (now down almost 60 pounds), I know that one key 'golden nugget', is you have to track your progress using several measurements, not just the scale, so that you can see, over time, what is working, and what is not working. If you are where I was, then you might be deciding between a simple soft measuring tape, a Myotape, and/or Calipers. Well, forget the soft measuring tape, for one reason: The myo-tape is self-cinching, which means, you click a button, and it gently tightens around your waist/chest/thigh/arm, whatever, at exactly the same tension, every single time. This means, accurate measurement. If you use a soft tape, and just pull it together yourself, it just simply won't be as accurate. And the Myotape is so affordable, why wouldn't you use the right tool for the right job? Your other choice is a caliper, and while I'm not opposed to using a Caliper, it is just simply not as convenient, as a myotape, if you are self-measuring. Calipers have their advantages also, and I believe you can buy a Myotape/caliper combo. So, it's up to you. But for me, I pick the myotape and the scale as my go-to, and that's really all I need. I measure weight, bodyfat % with the scale, then the myotape gives me my chest, waist, arms, and thighs, and then, I track those over the course of weeks to months. Works for me. I would recommend, whether you are using a myotape, and/or a caliper, just pick the measurements that you want to stick with, maybe no more than 7, and just stick with those, and be consistent. That's your scorecard. They will paint you a picture that you need in order to achieve your goals. In any event, the Myotape came highly recommended to me by a reliable personal trainer and champion bodybuilder. She said, straight up, buy the Myotape, and so I did. I'm happy I did. You will be too. Hope that helps.
