For most users the RD 953 will do everything you need from a body composition scale. I decided to return this scale based on my experience with BIA scales. I've found more consistency and accuracy with the full body BIA systems like the BC 1500Pro Segmental BIA. My experience with body composition scales began on a Tanita BC 1000 in 2009 which uses the Healthy Edge software with Ant+ technology. Although the RD 953 phone app is convenient and pairs well with the scale it could use some refining. The app is okay at providing body composition info. For the price this is a great first step for anyone who needs accurate body composition metrics to compliment their fitness program. In my experience without these metrics to help guide your fitness plan you will be losing valuable time and energy.

This is the best scale ever made by human hands (and some machines). All you need to do is install the app, push one button, stand on the scale, then briefly wait for the scale to download all your biometric data to your smartphone. It automatically integrates with your apple health applications. In the old days you had to scroll through a menu on the scale to get all the data to pencil into your daily health log book. Bravo Tanita!!!

Accuracy - while there are no scales that are completely accurate, I did try a diet and when I compared the results of the Tanita to the Withings, the accuracy of the Tanita fell in line with my body fat measurements and the Withings was completely off. The Withings Smart Body Analyzer had results with huge swings in accuracy. Confused, I returned it and just to be thorough, I tried a different color and unfortunately still the same issue. If you just want a simple scale, get a withings but if it needs to be anywhere in the ballpark, you'll need to try out Tanita. Interface - I used to own an older Tanita model so having the blue/red/green lights indicate good / bad values was a plus. However, the third party app and the UI of the Tanita scale is just horrid. Hopefully an app exists that results in a better smartphone sync. This is where Withings shines. However, as noted above, the accuracy was a real problem so if you just need a simple weight scale, get a Withings model. It's not a perfect product but there is room for improvement. With a better app, this scale can be marvelous. Do keep in mind that accurate body composition requires machines in the thousands of dollars but for a few hundred bucks, my money is on Tanita.

I am going to try to sync with an iPad I have as apparently my android phone is too new for the app??? It's a two-year old phone, that yes, I update, but shouldn't the app keep up?

I am happy with the scale itself. It has many functions as they describe. However, their app is so hard to maneuver, and there is very little written manuals, not to mention videos. For example, in their manual, it says to download "Health Edge", but I had to download "Health-Planet". Of course, there is virtually no manual for that app. I am relatively savvy on tech devices, but even something like connecting bluetooth, I really had to go around many places to finally find it. FYI, it's not in the Setting, or Connection. You turn it on in the "Input Data" section. It's not intuitive at all. For the money I paid, I expected a lot more. However, I see how Japanese electronics makers lost shares to those of Korean or Americans. Even if their hardware may not be the best, their software and user interface are far better.

I’ve had the scale for four or five years now, bought on Amazon. It’s been great until today. Today I had to replace batteries and now, no matter what I try, pairing fails with my iPhone 11 XS max. This makes the scale completely unusable. UPDATE: The problem was with my iPhone not the scale. After restarting my iPhone, the scale paired easily and continued with its great service. What I especially like about the scale is that when I repeat a measurement, I get exactly the same measurement right down to the 10th of a pound. Other skills fail this test, many very badly.

The scale does everything you could ever want. I haven't used the blue tooth option yet, but will try soon. The scale is good quality, the instructions are helpful. Everything works as it should. I compared values to the scale I was using, that also measures weight, bf%, water % and BMI. The two are very close in value, but this does so much more! The entire family is starting a fitness challenge, and this is our ultimate tool for health assessment.

There are other products that offer similar functionalities that do not come close to this product. I had an old Tanita scale that lasted me more than 15 years which is still working. This product is durable and will not break. There are other scales in the market where my weight will fluctuate right after I measure. This product offers accurate bodyfat measurement since it is not calculated from my weight. I really love this scale and will be using it for years to come!
