The Tanita RD-953 InnerScan PRO incorporates the very latest FDA cleared Multi Frequency bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) technology, the first consumer body composition monitor in the world to do so. I love this scale. It's consistent. I researched for 3 weeks before settling on this one vs Withings vs Omron vs etc Of course this IS Tanita... so everyone knows they are the benchmark. The scale is much better looking in real life. Feels rich. Even the clunky looking LCD screen is much fancier in real life. It changes colors and flashes in a rich way when done its reading. And it's so consistent its read outs I use it multiple times a day because I'm so curious about what every meal and workout and fasting did. Fantastic. Much much better than the Omron handheld. And it's FAST. So much faster than all the ones I'v ever tried. Fantastic. The App SUCKS !! a LOT !! Tip: initialize the reading from the app, wait for it to say step, then do so. Do it in that order. The app loaded with some test data.. very irky. I cleared it. You have to setup your profile on mytanita first. The app has zero compared to Withings. It's just a log. You'll have to export all your data to ChatGPT or other apps to get meaning from your data. The instruction sheet is quite clear. Amazon didn't pack this well. I'm surprised mine didn't arrive broken. It came in its own box, like I bought it off the shelf. No external box. Scary for an expensive glass scale. ... show more

    • Disappointingly inaccurate.
Fine if all you want is your weight, but wildly inaccurate for body fat and other calculations. It's telling me repeatedly that my BF is five percent. Hah! In my dreams. Do professional body builders even get that low? Also, in spite of extensive instructions, the app is not intuitive and rather ambiguous to set up. Was definitely hoping for a superior experience than what was delivered. I will be returning as I don't need this if all I can rely on it for is weight. ... show more

    • Great scale for iPhone integration
The scale is great, and can be used standalone if you don't want any of the app features. I've done many things to test the accuracy, and it passes all tests to within it's 0.1 lb precision--comparing weights to a calibrated industrial scale, checking its work on medical scales, testing small differences by adding a precise known weight to my own, it always comes up accurate. No cheating here (some sketchy lesser digital scales will remember the last weight they see, and spit out the same number if the next weight is close, to make sure it looks the same if you step off and back on as a test). I even used it to weigh a cat I was holding, and came up with the same number as the vet's scale--good work! It's in fact so accurate that you need to set your latitude range on it--it presumably is compensating for the roughly 0.5% difference in apparent weight (to give you a consistent, absolute mass measurement rather than local weight measurement) depending on where you are between the equator and poles. That would only add up to a variability of 0.5-1lb, but it apparently is that accurate. The app is kind of crusty and looks very "early iPhone", but functionally it does everything it's supposed to, and does it well. Surprisingly enough, it has never had any trouble syncing to the scale, and feeds the data right into Apple Health, so even if the app itself is a bit janky all your data is easily usable. Oh, and the battery life is great--I don't weigh all that frequently, but currently at 18 months without having to put new batteries in. ... show more

Neither of their apps work, does not connect to anything, wildly inaccurate readings aside from weight. Loved this company, such a shame quality is lacking now.

Love it. Bought one as a gift. It DOES SYNC with Apple health. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: your level of (de) HYDRATION impacts your body fat % and body composition numbers. This is true for any body composition scale. Therefore, you should try (as provided in the detailed instructions) to weigh around the same time of day and when you’re at an optimal or at least consistent level of hydration each day. If you’re dehydrated, it’s going to score your composition very differently than when you’re retaining water, etc. Overall, this is a very well made and highly reliable way to watch your overall trend. And I expect it will last a long time as my first Tanita body fat scale which is decades old still keeps pace and accuracy with the new scale with nearly identical body fat and weight analysis. I bought this one bc I wanted to know more about bone, muscle and metabolic functions. Recommend!! ... show more

    • Worst software I have ever seen
The scale itself is great, looks sleek and seems to be accurate. The iOS software is literally the worst piece of garbage I've ever seen. Some of the data you can't even read because the labels get cut off. Looking at the app store history shows there hasn't been any meaningful update to the app since the first release 7 years(!!) ago (just some small bugfixes). What really hurts though is that the European version (953 without the Pro) has an excellent app, with thorough explanations and excellent design, looks fun to use. I am seriously considering returning the scale since the App is just such a bad experience. Side note: if you can't read anything when you setup your profile, turn off the dark mode. The CEO of Tanita should be ashamed of himself. Give us the European version please. ... show more

    • Good scale, hard to set up
This scale is really cool and has a lot of functions, however it is difficult to set up. I have gotten the app the work now and it is Working well. I like that it shows my body fat % and muscle mass. Also tracks your water levels and visceral fat.
