  • 100% Organic Reptile Compressed Coco Coir - OMRI Certified, Eco-Friendly Bedding
This is a huge brick of coco coir! If you plan to uncompress/rehydrate this all at once make sure you have a big enough container! It should expand out to about 18 gallons worth or 2.5 cubic feet, the listing here says to use 6.5 gallons of water but the package says 4-10 gallons, from my experience chances are you are going to need closer to 8+ gallons of water... Also use warm or hot water if available it will make it expand much faster... I expand it in a large plastic tote with a lid, I generally toss it in there with warm water, put the lid on and check back on it the next day... Overall I love using coco coir as a substrate in my misc animal cages, but these large bricks are sometimes a little hassle to deal with, so what I do is rehydrate and expand it fully, then spread it out on a blue tarp in the driveway on a hot sunny day and let it dry back out fully, turning it every so often to make sure it's entirely dry... Once dry and fluffy I scoop it up and put it in a dedicated plastic garbage can and use it as needed... Make sure it's fully dry if you do this or else it can mold... 5 stars all around! ... show more

  • Convenient and priced right
As someone who has close to 20 reptiles, I really appreciate the size of this coco brick. It gets tedious using the classic smaller bricks when setting up a new enclosure or doing basic maintenance. The product arrived in good shape with little to no loose fibers spilling from the plastic wrap. The coir itself is great quality - not that coco fiber has much variation, but some brands seem to have longer fibers than others. This is a nice mix of short fibers, which is what you want when mixing with other substrates or using it as a fluffy bedding for burrowers. But this is one honkin' huge brick of coco fiber, so take note when soaking: Put this in a huge container. I made the mistake of soaking it in a too small bucket, and once this thing started expanding, it quickly became jammed in the bucket. I had to go at it with a bread knife to cut enough off that it could continue soaking up water. Overall very impressed with the fiber quality, and the cost per pound is so much more economical than the tiny bricks. ... show more

  • Great Value and Quality Coir
To start, I did not realize how much dirt a 10 pound brick of coconut coir would make. The expanded coir took multiple 5 gallon buckets to hold. This is great because I need to fill a roughly 300 gallon terrarium with enough dirt for my large snake to burrow, and I did not even use the entire brick. The coir itself is just as good as any namebrand pet store coir. It holds a burrow well when moist and is great for keeping humidity stable. It also holds water very well, does not mold, and smells great. The plants seem to like it too. Overall, this is an incredible value and a high quality, eco friendly option if you are looking to buy coconut coir. ... show more

  • A lot of coco coir
I like to use coco coir as a component in potting mixes and reptile vivariums. This is a delightfully massive amount of coir once it's fully rehydrated. It's a great base for a mix, as it holds moisture while not getting heavy or soggy, and is able to hold tunnels for reptiles that like to burrow. I think this brick will last me a good long while. ... show more

  • Excellent substrate for my turtles
I'm using the coconut fiber for my hatchling box turtles. I use it straight, not mixed with topsoil. I will mix topsoil when using it for nesting. I use a flat screwdriver to break away a layer and soak it. It stays moist, yet loose. The hatchlings are able to easily bury themselves and move about while still buried. ... show more

  • Great bedding for my tortoise
I chose this one over my regular reptisoil block because this one is organic. Only the best for my red footed tortoise! I needed to replace my tortoise's substrate, and wanted to try this unknown-to-me option by Mycelium. The brick is huge since it's 10 lbs of compressed coco coir. What I like the most before even hydrating it was that the brick perfectly sealed. There wasn't any coco coir flakes coming out of it, something every other brand I've used for the past few years have been like. The coco coir hydrates rather quickly and expands a LOT. I like it, my tortoise seems happy with it mixed with some spaghnum moss to keep the moisture in. I'd recommend this brand over others. ... show more

  • Good stuff
I've been using different types of coconut substrate for my snakes for over 20 years and this one works really well. You can try and pull it apart dry but I always just soak it in water and watch it expand and fall apart, plus it gives my snakes a good amount of humidity that they need. Would definitely purchase again. ... show more

  • Mycelium 100% Organic Reptile Compressed Coco Coir - great Coco Coir!
I did not realize that 10 lbs was such a large compressed brick. I will eventually use all 10 lbs! The instructions state to put the entire brick into 6.5 gallons of water. I don't recommend doing that unless you plan to use the entire amount as once it soaks up the water you will have a lot of expanded Coco Coir. I use this for my turtle and bearded dragon. The branded dragon cage is 150 gallons and the 10 pounds expanded would be more than enough to cover the floor of the cage. I cut off roughly a one-pound cube and expanded it for the 25-gallon turtle cage. I had enough left over to fill two one-gallon ziplock bags. This Coco Coir expands and dries to a nice fluffy Coco Coir. My retiles like it. ... show more
