  • Solid, functional, great looking portable gaming console.
Style: Game Boy Color Style Pattern Name: Console
To me, this portable has one of the best looks I have ever seen. A job well done on the design. References to pixels are everywhere. The build quality is solid. Assembly fits nice. Plastic feels good. Not the best, but good enough. If it had been a little more thick, it would have been top. Size is kind of the first Nintendo's Game Boy - so it fits hand sizes from a 8 year kid and above. Screen is fine, graphics look very nice. I just have one issue here - it feels as if all the black frame surrounding the plastic screen cover was hollow...? - if you press that area, it feels/looks like the plastic bends downwards - you gotta be careful with this. Controls feel good. Everything feels the way it should. Diagonal button press can be easily achieved - no pain. This is very important and a very common flaw in many "clone" consoles out there. As for the games included, the Data East classics are there - 8 bit, NES versions. Of course, you have your usual emulation limitations - no "I'm bad" sound in Bad Dudes -, some graphics don't look the way they would look on an original NES setup...but overall it feels solid and playable. The rest of the games are different game hacks and clones - I wish DreamGear had requested other licenses instead of adding these - not many of them are appealing. It's however a curious addition to experiment. Works on 4 AAA batteries - which I find very practical. I really don't like to spend time charging a console, so to me this was fantastic. The console has a mode where action buttons light up - this is very cool! For no more than 20 USD this is a very nice portable gaming console. So far, I have played a run of Bad Dudes and Heavy Barrel, and I can say that, overall, it feels just the way I played them in the NES. I'm happy with the product. Could be better yes, but it's good enough the way it is. I liked it so much - I'm planning to get the other version (horizontal format) and perhaps another one of this kind. ... show more

  • Amazing with real, branded arcade games
Style: Game Boy Advance Style Pattern Name: Console
I've purchased a few mini-arcade systems in the past and they're a lot of fun, but those generic knock off games just aren't as good as the real name-brand games. That's what's most amazing about this little game system. It not only comes with 300 games, but it contains the real name-brand Data East arcade games like Bad Dudes, BurgerTime and Karate Champ. The other games are pretty good, too, and my daughter is happily playing through them. The controls are very simple to use and there are some pretty amazing options for the price (brightness control, volume control, headphone audio port, video out for television hookup, and a recharging port if you install rechargeable batteries). My daughter has been using it with four AAA batteries and I can't believe how long they're lasting. I'd planned to purchase rechargeable batteries, because I was certain she'd be running down the batteries constantly, but after 2 weeks of play, they're still running strong. I really can't say enough good things about this game system or how ridiculously inexpensive it is. I purchased it for $24 and there's no doubt in my mind it's worth much more. If you like classic arcade games, you'll love this and your kids are sure to, too. ... show more

  • Bought it for the Data East games only.
Style: Game Boy Advance Style Pattern Name: Console
I purchased the Data East Classics Pixel Player Portable only for the Data East titles, and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed! Especially in playing Burger time, Burgetime came out when I was a little kid but I never had a chance to play it back then. But this nice title portable gave me the opportunity to see what I missed! And it's a pretty good game! They don't make 'em like those anymore sadly. Unfortunately the other 294 games included on this handy little portable really aren't worth mentioning. I tried playing some of them but, there's just not much there. But if you enjoyed the 6 Data East titles back in the good 'ol 80's, then you'll be pleased with this little gem. ... show more

  • This product is exactly as described
Style: Game Boy Advance Style Pattern Name: Console
It works and is a durable, well made product. It's very basic and old school, but has a variety of games and is easy to use. It would be perfect for younger children.

  • Did not work 😩
Style: Game Boy Advance Style Pattern Name: Console
Item did not work upon arrival, and since my only option is a money refund, and the price has gone up since I ordered, I would now have to spend more than I originally did to hopefully get a working unit. Sort of disappointing since I had given it as an early Christmas gift, and my boyfriend was so excited for it just to find that it does not turn on even after putting in the batteries. ... show more

  • Disappointed
Style: Game Boy Color Style Pattern Name: Console
There are things I like about this handheld game, and things that I don't. The eight Data East games are good. Those were one of the main reason I bought this game. Heavy Barrel & Burger Time were favorites of mine back in the day. And from what I've read on the internet, this game unit is using the actual arcade ROMs. I also like the look and size of this device. It fits in my hands and isn't too small. Being able to hook this up to a television is another plus for me. Now, for some of the issues I have. First - the screen outer cover was misaligned on the unit I received. I was able to carefully pull it off and correct the placement of it on the device. Second, this game system has two main buttons, A& B plus Reset & Start, along with a directional pad. Problem is, with some of the other games you are missing buttons that you need. For instance, with the Sudoku game (#266) you can't access the control buttons in the game to check the puzzle or get hints. I've got one of the My Arcade game consoles with the wireless remotes, and it has the same library of games on it and the same Sudoku game. The controllers for that system have more buttons, and you can access the controls for the game. So I like this handheld game system, but it's not perfect. The Data East games are fun, but I wished they had vetted the other games to make sure all of them were compatible with the two button configuration this system has. ... show more
