  • It's pretty solid
Color: Black/Red
This has been my main microphone for... Probably a decade or so? I forget the exact date of when I bought this but I have always enjoyed this microphone. For the cost it's pretty good. It's not the Best sound but it's still very Good. I'd love to upgrade one day but again this is a many many many year owner of it who still uses the same mic stand that came with it currently. It's good quality parts that went into it. I've dropped it. This thing doesn't break. It's great for discord and gaming. I probably wouldn't use it for any serious voice acting but if you want a decent priced mic this is fine. ... show more

  • Definitely Worth the Money
Color: Black/Red
I purchased this for quick audio recording with an iPad. I was torn between this mic, and the Samson meteor. I went with this after reading about issues with the mic stand mount on the meteor. My first use was last night, recording a quick single vocal audio track for a family member. Sound quality was decent, with few noticeable peaks in at the least the male vocal range. Build quality seems decent, with metal construction. The screen is plastic, with foam filling the void between the screen and condenser. The included tabletop tripod is flimsy and loosely constructed, though will do a decent job of supporting the mic, though it will transmit all vibrations for the surface it is sitting on to the microphone. My only real complaint about the microphone is how the included stand mount attaches, and the lack of vibration isolation/dampening. the included mount attaches by removing a machined knurled nut from the bottom of the mic, which surrounds the usb plug. The mount is then placed onto the bottom of the mic, and the nut reattached. This method provides no vibration dampening, and the mic easily pics up any vibrations, including vibrations from the usb cable touching the mic stand. That said, this is a sub-$70 mic I can't really complain too much about the mount. In the future, I will likely employ a shock-isolating mount when recording from a mic stand. I recorded from an iPad using MultiTrack DAW from Harmonicdog. In this program, the mic appeared to support 24 bit / 44 khz sampling. I did not check the finished audio to see if it truly supports this, though it appears to when recording. In conclusion, this is a very good value in entry level usb mics. Sound quality is good, and amazing for the price. The few minor shortcomings are easily overcome with proper preparation, and considering the price, don't change my overall good opinion of this mic. ... show more

  • Good Background noise is there just play with volume
Color: Black/Red
This mic is red, ATM it was cheaper than the others but it is just a color i guess. In terms of talking and background noise: if there are others in the room it will pick up their voice very easily but not in the quality of having it close to you. I have to have my mic volume pretty high to have it pick up my voice, the louder it is the more background noise, and the quieter it is less background noise giving your voice a more clear spoken quality. You use windows to adjust it, no software. For the stand it comes with it is okay, but I highly suggest this GET A MIC STAND, preferably one that is very adjustable to mount on your desk and hang. It will give more room and the closer it is to your mouth the less volume boost you have to put on, and doing that makes your voice sound WAY better. A problem I do have is that the volume of the mic and on other things like skype and steam do not match up so for me it is like this (steam is really loud with background noise from my fans: Skype is quieter and is okay but if i change steams volume the be the volume of skype, my friends can not hear me) I play guitar as well, for the quality it isnt PERFECT but it does pick up everything from the plucking sounds from strumming, the chords and you sliding your fingers on the strings. Overall, volume is tricky but if you get it right then you are good, have the mic close to your voice, and background noise from static and other things exist ... show more

  • Sounds good, could use a gain knob.
Color: Black/Red
I purchased this microphone for my son to simplify his simple little recording set-up. He uses the mic for recording narration on youtube videos and also as a skype microphone. Previously he was borrowing one of my condenser mics and a small preamp that fed into his PCs on-board sound card. While this worked, it was a quite cumbersome set-up. This MXL has removed all the cables and wall-warts and given him a nice simple set-up that sounds really rather good. There is only one complaint I have regarding this mic (and probably many USB microphones). That is, there is no gain control on the microphone itself. What this means is that a loud source can easily overload the mic and cause bad distortion. There is the ability to adjust the recording level in the standard Windows mixer, but this level control is after the microphone's internal preamp, so does not eliminate the overload that happens within the microphone. Therefore, the only way to reduce distortion with loud sources is to move the microphone away from the sound source - but this introduces problems of its own with more room sound than direct sound. That aside, I do think this is a very easy to set up and generally good sounding mic. ... show more

  • Quality, Dependability and Ease of Use!
Color: Black/Red
I got this for both recording some voice files in Audacity (reading stuff for foreign friends) and also high quality audio when I Skype called. Although the price point is lower than some other USB microphones, the quality is great! It sounds great and has an integral amplifier and headphone monitor jack. I also like the little tripod it comes with. It's sturdier than it looks and is adjustable. The only downside is that this is pretty sensitive to ambient noise so if your fridge is running in the background while you record audio, you will be able to hear it if you listen carefully. However, it has a good bass response and captures the totality of a human voice very well. It's good for acoustic instruments, too. The frequency response of 40hz to 18khz is almost the full range of human hearing and is good enough for the price. A definite recommend! PS- It's USB and installs easily the first time ... show more
