Yes, this should have been factory included! I had a little trouble until I realized a hole in the spring housing fits over a rivet on the hinge, but after that - perfect! A little pricey but worth it.

Easy to install Use a little blue loctite. Since it moves alot. Do not know why it wasn't a stock part! No more hand opening with groceries.

These were one of the first upgrades I got for my Miata as I didn't like having to get fingerprints on my car when opening the trunk. They aren't perfect as they seem to only pop the trunk up about half the time, but I still plan to keep them since they definitely help Pros; - They were simple to install, it only took about 5 minutes and the instructions were great. - All the hardware looks to be high quality Cons: - Expensive - I know these are specialty items but they still seem expensive for what is simply 2 springs and a metal holder - They don't actually pop the lid most of the time, but it will pop up with just a slight touch. This may be because I have the factory spoiler lip but that piece can't weigh more than a couple of ounces - No way to adjust them ... show more

(refering to 2019 MX-5 RF model, a differently shaped trunk lid than soft top) I like the idea of this product, but when I installed them, I noticed the corners of my trunk lid were slightly bent upwards on both sides. I verified installation was correct, but there aren't really ways of getting it wrong. I did it just like each video I watched, properly seated and lined up with the pivot point in the hinge. Installation was very easy and quickly done, and they operate just as claimed, but I couldn't risk the trunk lid to see if the springs would break in to loosen up. They're just too strong for the aluminum lid. It was hard to capture the difference in pictures, but it was easily noticeable in person. I'm attaching pictures of with and without the poppers. I've purchased MX5things items before that I'm very happy with, but this product I can't recommend, at least for the RF which has a slightly different trunk lid than the soft top. ... show more

    • Much need for improvement + too expensive
After fiddling with installing these I realized you have to give it tension by installing them all the way pushing down. Otherwise they simply will not work and they will pop off the trunk lid. I got them to install correctly and am happy with the way it opens...all be it a tad too fast. I am with the other reviewer that mentioned they cause the truck lid to bulge ever so slightly above the rest of the car. That is a big drawback...I ended up returning them after getting a replacement set as I thought the first set was defective. This product needs a version 2.0 for sure. Plus, this mod would be better priced at $50 or $60 a pair instead of $100. ... show more
