  • Sturdy trekking poles, compact enough for travel.
I'm new to hiking and really wanted some poles to help my stability on trails and to just help me with stamina on regular walks in town too. These poles are great for that. As others have mentioned, I do wish they came with instructions One of mine came completely apart (the handle from the rest of it - perhaps the inner string mechanism detached) but still seems okay when I put it back together. They do feel impossibly loose if you are not used to this type of collapsible pole. You must extend it long enough to snap into place (there's a metal button that pops into the hole, much like an umbrella). Once that is done, it is stiff as a board. I'm a large woman and even trying to see if it would collapse under my weight didn't work - so I have a good level of confidence they'll continue to hold up to my use. They both fold quite compactly and fit into a sturdy storage bag. The bag is quite a bit longer than the collapsed poles, but I imagine that is so you can sling it "crossbody" style, hich is great. There's a bag of additional tips to handle various terrain from snow to water. Overall, I think these poles are well made, convenient, and will come in handy. A worthwhile purchase. ... show more

  • Lightweight, Sturdy, and Very Well Made
I am new to hiking poles, but I know quality when I see it - and these look like really great poles. Let me step through the features. Design - These are made with a carbon mesh and are very strong and light. I compared them to some other poles at a higher price point and these are lighter and stronger. The three pieces that make up each pole have a shock cord that holds them together (like most tent poles), so that pieces can't be lost. Compact - They separate into 3 sections and fold up into a very compact package that can be held together with an attached Velcro strap, and strapped to your backpack. Or they can be placed in the included case (also called a quiver) which has a shoulder strap for easy carrying. Strong - I was impressed with how the sections join. That is obviously the most important part of the entire pole. The way that they connect is designed to be really strong. I like to see good engineering. There are 3 "joints" that connect with a ferrule system - similar to the way the sections of a fishing rod connect. They are very strong and are large enough to distribute the force put on the pole. Then there is one slip connector, this is to allow you to set the poles to your height and to make adjustments during your hike if necessary. Adjustable - The maximum length of the pole is 130cm. And they adjust down to 110 cm (and everywhere in between). Just for reference, I am 6' 2" tall and I have them set at 125. That is perfect - I can make them a bit longer if I am going down a steeper slope, and shorten them up on a steeper climb. The Slip Connector - I want to say a bit more just about that connector. It is well designed and holds tight. This is critical - you don't want the pole to get shorter while you are pushing on it! I tried to get it to move by putting my whole weight on it and it did not move. It is adjustable - a key feature. There is a small round adjusting nut that you can turn to make it tighter. You adjust that with the lever for this connector Open. Then you flip the lever to close it. If it is not nice and tight, you open it again, and adjust that nut just a bit tighter, then flip the lever again until you get a nice tight fit. It's very easy to do and just takes a few seconds and you are ready to go. Accessories - It comes with a variety of tips and baskets. The smaller baskets are for mud/sand and the larger ones are for snow. I attached a few pic's so that you get a different view compared to the Amazon listing. And I included a close-up of the lever mechanism and the adjusting nut which I referenced in the review. These are really nice poles and a bargain at the current price of just under $100. An easy 5 Stars for this fine set of poles. ... show more
