It works although it takes my 900w microwave 18 minutes to melt glass. The results are several layers of glass melt at a high enough temp to give you a solid chunk of glass. ( There might be bubbles in it ) I use it to make glass arrowheads and it works fine

Well made, But THE SELLER Lied in THE Ad about the size of the fusing surface. IT IS NOT 5.31 inches. IT IS UNDER 5 INCHES, It is a good Kiln. I bought this one because of the stated size. Others are the same size as this 4.92 was less by other sellers and the are the same kiln. The Kiln sheets are a good deal with this as the are not really cheap. U get 50 ... show more

This is excellent i have used it about 100 times already and it has no issues at all. The person who melted glass onto the black part, they just put too much glass and not completely on the fiber paper. You must keep the glass on the fiber paper. I set the microwave for 7 minutes and its almost always all fused together. Made so many cute little pieces for jewelry and art. The fuse paper that comes with this is minimal, it smells a little, so when you run out get sheets of better fuse paper and cut them and it wont smell at all. ... show more

So I guess like most arts and crafts processes, you usually need a little practice to get it right, and this is no exception. But I didn't give up and eventually was able to make it work. There isn't a ton of information on how to use this microwave kiln and all of it is on this page (in the photos section.) So if you're looking for basic instructions, they don't come with the package so you won't find them there. I didn't realize that they were actually on the listing page in the photos so instead watched some videos, which were helpful but didn't really give me the basics I needed. I wasn't really looking for how to make finished pieces yet, I just wanted to know how to operate the kiln, and the directions on the listing page work pretty well for that though it would have been nice if a printed page was included. What was included was the kiln itself, very protectively boxed, which I was happy about as I worried it might crack on the way to me. But it was intact and I was surprised at how lightweight it really is. This makes it pretty easy to handle, though it does feel somewhat fragile so I'd be gentle with it. It also comes with lots and lots of the kiln paper that you place the glass on, and you can cut it to size too so that you don't waste paper on small pieces. So mine should last me a while as I made 3 attempts to finally get something to melt/fuse and only used 1.5 pieces of the paper. The problems I had at first I think were a combination of not running the microwave long enough and using glass that was too thick. What finally worked was some broken glass I had from a picture frame and 6 minutes on the timer in a 1000 watt microwave oven. As time goes on and I gain more confidence in the safety of it all, I'm sure I'll try more things, but I was just happy that it actually worked. And pretty impressed! Working with glass can be a pricey hobby and one of the few craft forms I've never tried. So to be able to dabble with it at such a low cost investment is really pretty astounding. I just happened to have an extra microwave that still works that I can set up in the garage, so all I really needed was the kiln itself. And some glass to play with so very pleased with this and can recommend it. Just watch some videos as I did, have some oven mitts handy as the kiln really heats up but also cools down pretty quickly, and maybe grab some safety goggles just in case. ... show more

    • No Instructions & Never got it to Work for me.
Not happy at all. Took 30 attempts to even get a small peace of Glass to Glow. And all it did was flatten out. "NO INSTRUCTIONS" - So just a guess, it appears the Heat is put into the Kiln itself & what ever is inside it will just heat up because it is trapped in the middle of the heat zone. I will probably try a few things but - > I can't seem to figure it out <. Watched youtube videos and they just show it works like a charm but no instructions there either. I did try different Heat Settings on the Microwave as well. But, after 30 attempts with Zero real success ??? _ FAIL. ... show more

My daughter has gotten into making jewelry, so I thought I would get this for her Christmas present. Excellent choice. This microwave kiln is well made out of good quality materials. Fit and finish are very good. Will easily fit in a standard microwave oven. Very easy to use. There is a bit of a learning curve, since microwave ovens vary, but that's normal. Works very well.
