I recently switched my mountain bike from a wet lube to this Muc-Off C3 Ceramic Dry Lube, and after some trial and error, I found the perfect procedure to ensure a clean drivetrain and optimal performance. Here’s how I do it: Step 1: Initial Degreasing I start by using the Park Tool CG-2.4 chain cleaning system, but instead of Park’s CB-4 degreaser, I fill it with RunAway Bike Bio Degreaser — it’s cheaper but works just as well. I run the drivetrain through the apparatus first to mechanically agitate and remove large grime and old lube. This step alone removes the bulk of the mess and makes the next cleaning steps much easier. Step 2: Deep Cleaning Next, I rinse off all the first degreaser completely with a hose. Then I apply Silca Ultimate Step 1 Drivetrain & Brake Degreaser with a brush to agitate the chain, cassette, and chainring(s). I let it sit for 3–5 minutes — no longer, as it’s powerful — then rinse thoroughly. Step 3: Optional Full Bike Cleaning Now I optionally spray the entire bike (avoiding the drivetrain) with Muc-Off Nano Cleaner. I use a gentle brush, sponge, or even a new toilet bowl cleaner to remove dirt and dust from the frame, wheels, and components. Important: I avoid spraying the drivetrain directly because the biodegradable surfactants in the Nano Cleaner can leave a thin residue that prevents Muc-Off C3 Dry Lube from adhering properly. Step 4: Drying I rinse the whole bike and then dry completely with shop towels or equivalent. I also wear protective eyewear and disposable gloves during the process — it keeps me safe and clean. Step 5: Applying the Dry Lube Once the drivetrain is completely dry, I apply the C3 Ceramic Dry Lube. Dryness is crucial here — unlike wet lubes, dry lube needs a fully dry surface to bond properly. I apply it to the bottom of the chain on top of the rollers, starting and ending with the chain link to avoid over-applying. After letting it sit for 3-4 hours, I wipe off any excess while pedaling backwards. Optional Tip: My bike shop recommends lubricating the jockey wheels as well — just be sure to wipe off excess to prevent fling-off and dirt buildup. Bottom line: This lube is excellent once applied correctly. Following this workflow ensures a smooth, quiet drivetrain, improved efficiency, and long-lasting dry lubrication. This was my first time using the lube. I selected the type for damp/humid environments, as 2023 was a very wet year for gravel riding around Boston. Over the years, I have tried many lubes for my chains. Most times, the experience was like working with a barber: a few times with this product, a few with another. Most were sloppy - even with careful cleaning and then application- and but most were fine. None were special, or lasted a long time. This lube is another level. It’s easy to apply with a carefully sized applicator. And that UV light isn’t a gimmick: it revealed exactly the places I’d covered on my SRAM Force group set - and exactly what I had missed. And it worked great - all the way into an equally humid fall/late fall. And after several applications - and several supplements- I still have more than half of the tube remaining?! Awesome! I tried this (on a clean chain) when a friend bought some and was stunned how great my chain looked after just a water rinse. Have tried it on 25-28 mile single track MTB rides in dusty conditions. No black gunk is building up on my pulleys, the chain, chain ring or gears. After a ride, I hose off my bike and drive chain, let things dry off, but then rather than back spinning the chain and lubing it as it’s rolling buy, I put a drop on each link connection and then back spin the chain 4-4 times and use two fingers to help push it in a bit. My fingers are clean and look totally dry when I’m done. Try it, it only takes literally 1-2 minutes to put a drop on each link, and then you know you’re getting the places that matter lubbed ... show more

Excellent lube, clean application, performs amazing... until you get caught in a rain shower. Then the benefits quickly rinse away. I don't start my rides planning to get wet, but it's something that happens on occasion. I feel strongly that, when dry, this is the best lube I've used... other brands I’ve used include the gold one, the green one, the white one... all have their merits: Easy and reliable daily drivers. When your game has risen to the next level, when you care for and tune you equipment to suit your preferences, this is the next level lube... as long as you stay dry. The small light feels quirky until you dive in and realize it's extremely helpful to examine the accuracy of the application. You'll see how evenly you're covered, and that you have some stray drips that need to be cleaned up! I'm trying the Muck-Off Team Sky Hydrodynamic next to see if it survives rain showers. I’ll review there once I’ve had time to ride it. Great lube for dry locales! ... show more
