    • What the H. E double Hocky sticks is that smell?
Package just arrived, and I opened the box, removed the two outer layers of plastic and put it on top of my current bed ( which is a queen size, I am still currently waiting on the frame I ordered for this mattress to arrive) so it would have time to regain it's normal state and the smell I was hit with was something between paint and cannabis. I opened the side zip thinking, "OK, maybe they've used industrial hemp fibers as part of the filling for this." instead of the inside looking anything like the cut-away view of the inside shown on this listing, it's just loose grey stuffing that looks similar to what you find in the lint trap of a washing machine around a foam core...lol. There is no way to remove this cover to clean it without making a horrible mess, the outer layer or cover of this futon shouldn't even have a zipper on it. There are also raw edges of fabric near the zipper on one side and this isn't one of those fabrics that don't fray... Luckily I happen to sew and put a stop to the fraying with liqui-stitch, as I was out of fray-check. It's comfortable enough, I just hope stands the test of time. As I've had futons in the past, that didn't cost as much as this one and the fabric was a quality duck, not this weird fabric that is on this. I know it says "Manufactured by Royal Sleep Products" which is located in Texas, but I'm sure all the components were shipped in from China. Part of the label that is never to be removed except by the person who purchased the futon mattress is missing. It says that the outer covering is duck. There is absolutely no way the cover is made from duck, it's a synthetic fabric, while duck is made exclusively from cotton. This is NOT cotton. ... show more

We live in a bus and use this as our couch and bed, and at first it was perfect! It’s still holding up fine, but after the first couple weeks, my hips started hurting and it started feeling flatter.     • Worth the money
This is a good deal for the money. It's very firm, but not uncomfortable. I have hip problems, and I've had no pain after lying on my side for extended periods of time. It does have a very strong chemical odor. Is it worse than what might be considered average for packaged furniture like this? Perhaps, but it dissipates after about 2 weeks. Not a big deal for my wife and I. Do expect the room to smell pretty strongly for at least a week. My biggest complaint is the fabric. It's borderline polyester texture is almost unbearable. Personally, I can't stand the sensation of polyester against my skin, and this comes close to being beyond my tolerance, but not quite. In the end I just wish it were softer, but a blanket takes care of the problem. Overall, we're very happy with the purchase and would recommend this as a nice budget-friendly option. ... show more

i am very please that i bought this, not only do i love the color but the futon is a perfect fit where i wanted it to be, it took me a while to get it together and i did and its so soft and its so comfortable and a nice size at that i have slept on it alot since i got it and have not once felt the need to let it down into a bed there is no need when you can still sleep perfectly on it without doing so ... show more

I would have given it 5 stars but when I unpacked the item I was upset to see that the "tufted" areas on the mattress were done in a cream colored heavy thread/cord & didn't even match the "burgundy" color that I had ordered. If the tufted areas (which is why I ordered this one...it looked so nice in the pics & not plain) had been done in at least matching thread I would have been much happier. However, using a cream color was disappointing & left the mattress looking a bit cheap. Also, there are many long & loose threads at the seams. I'm afraid to cut them off not knowing if the seam would then unravel. On the plus side...it is very comfortable, thick & "cushie" to sit on. I'm not sure how long it will take for it to flatten down with regular use. I however, got it for occasional usage. For a few extra dollars I will probably go over the tufted places with a matching thread or sew on some decorative buttons. I can't stress enough how much this cheapened the look of this item. If it had not been for that I would have given it 5 stars easily. The material it's self is soft but heavy & seems to be very durable. I wanted to update. I have slept on this a couple of times now & it is very comfortable. Still it does not get used every day (it is in a guest room). I also wanted to address the "smell" some people are talking about.....straight out of the box there was NO smell. Maybe a "new" smell for a day or two but not a chemical or bad smell. ... show more
