You really can't go wrong with Mountain House food. I also haven't met a beef stroganoff I didn't like, and this did not disappoint. I could pack only this meal for two weeks and never get tired. Make sure you have a long handled spoon or fork to eat out of the bag. It can be messy, but the taste is worth it. ... show more

Just used for first time. Was dinner after 14 mile paddling day trip. Was hungry going in. Pro: light weight, stupid easy to prepare, cooks in its pouch, pouch is spotless when empty, great flavor, good looking meal. Cons: need to be precise with measured water amount (did not bring measuring cup), product had a little chew in pasta but tolerable, portion was slightly less than I needed, purposely did not eat anything more for 10 minutes, was still hungry had additional food (apple and piece of chocolate [ok half a bar of chocolate]). So for portions have something else to supplement and fine. Fair amount of sodium but no issue due to heavy workout from day of paddling. Overall: will continue to use, great meal when tired from hard day of paddling. Flavor top notch and food look quality was excellent. They just need slightly larger portions. BTW two portion containers were for two paddlers. Both paddlers needed a little more for dinner. ... show more

I know everything tastes better when you are out in the middle of nowhere and hungry, but this is tasty anywhere. ;)

    • the meals are great, but the meal types don't match what box labels say on this order
Well, I didn't want to write a product review, but Amazon doesn't seem to have a way to contact the seller (Amazon Services) in the order info pages. Not worth returning them, but not what I intended to buy. I ordered 3x boxes of stroganoff when they were at a low price, and while the labels on the boxes all say Beef Stroganoff, only one box actually contains pouches of it. One box has Mac and Cheese with Beef, and the other is Chicken Teriyaki. Obviously a packing/labeling error. The meals themselves are great for camping or emergencies. They have a long 30 year shelf life, and are easy to make. ... show more

This is the best of their lineup - even for those who aren’t sure about freeze-dried food, this will convert them. Always have spares in my camp kit and onboard when a quick, warm meal is needed.

Mountain House has been around since 1969 so there doing something right. Plenty to choose from, try them all, pick your favorites & enjoy your wilderness grub!
