I've had this phone for around 4 weeks and quite happy with it. I would suggest a case for those who tend to drop your phone. I always have because it is easier to grip, pickup, and provides a little cushion when dropping. Pictures are fine, although I would say the low light photos do suffer slightly but not a deal breaker for me. Ran some Geekbench 5 scores and they were between 782 to734 single, 2550 to 2730 multi-core. Just changed carriers to T-Mobile and when in an urban area the 5G changes to 5G uc (Ultra Capacity) and the download was 500 to 600 mbps and upload was very good. So far my T-Mobile experience has been excellent with this phone. I live out in the rural areas and still get a decent signal to take care most of my common tasks on the phone. The WIFI download was 400 to 700 mbps and upload was in a similar range depending on the traffic at the time. It is a WIFI 6 phone. WIFI test was conducted in the same room as the router. I've always been partial to the moto phones when I could get them from my carrier. Don't use a lot of the swipe options, try to keep it simple for this 82 year old mind. Love the fingerprint sensor on the power button or on the back(on an earlier Moto). So much more accurate than my Samsung screen sensor. Hated the Samsung because of that. If I read correctly, the "wizards of smart" are changing the new edge to a screen sensor. Should be fired immediately. The display is fine for my uses. Watch some you tube, Netflix, news, and some local channels on my homerun HD app. Perhaps my standards aren't real high but no complaints here. Battery life is excellent. I get easily a day and half or more with normal use. When I ran a video test with Netflix, the battery ran down at about 10 to 12 percent an hour. For me, that is just fine. Checked the signal at my house inside and outside. I live exactly halfway between 2 towers approximately 14 miles apart. Outside my 5G download is anywhere from 50 to 80 mbps and 15 to 25 mbps upload. Inside 33 to 40 mbps download and 6 to 10 mbps upload. I have a brick home so signal resistance is higher. Not including this info as an endorsement of T-Mobile but to give you some indication as to the strength of the Moto Edge signal. I bought two of these phones, one for me and one for my wife. Both have been performing excellently since day 1. Easy to use, fantastic screen views, and WOW with the 5G functionality! To be clear, we've had NONE of the issues that other reviewers have mentioned ("bruised" screen display, finicky fingerprint reader, lack of wifi calling, text message issues, etc.). Our phones are on the T-Mobile network. I made sure to call our carrier to have them provision our SIM's for wifi calling right away. We've had wifi calling since the moment we turned our phones on for the first time. I can't speak to the issues the Verizon customers have had with text messaging. All I can say is that our text messages work flawlessly on T-Mobile (note we use RCS chat). As far as 5G service, since we're on T-Mobile I've gone to the their website to see the 5G coverage in our area. Turns out we live right at one of the edges of a 5G zone. Not to worry, though. We get a solid 5G signal here. And I do mean solid (5 out of 5 bars). One interesting thing I've discovered about the phone is that when we're on wifi that the phone switches over to 4G/LTE. I'm not sure why it does that, but no complaints, since we get blazingly fast internet service either on wifi or on 5G. Other features are excellent. The 90hz refresh is sweet (super smooth videos and scrolling). No problems setting any Bluetooth devices. I also used the 3.5mm jack for audio and can say it worked well, though the sound quality I wanted was not what I got, likely due to the old Blackberry earpods I used for listening (I'd love to try it again with a better set, but probably won't, since I've got several Bluetooth headsets that work well). And the fingerprint feature has been right on for both of us on our phones - works every time. As a side comment, the "edge" viewing feature takes a bit getting used to, but it is cool. The phone has a an option to turn it off but we haven't tried that yet as we haven't found a good reason to do so. Our phones are currently protected with screen protectors and TPU cases. What we really want are more robust cases (like the Unicorn Bettles) that have built in screen protectors and solid case bodies. We're still waiting, and hoping that Unicorn or another supplier like them release cases like this in the near future. Bottom line - we wholeheartedly recommend this phone. I got this phone in January 2023 and it looked absolutely beautiful the color was beautiful unfortunately the day i got it, it slid out my car and screen cracked but i still used the phone until just this past April 2023 and only replaced it with another Motorola phone this time the moto g stylus 2022 which is technically a downgrade but for the price of a new phone vs a screen repair for this model i decided to just buy the moto g stylus which is technically a downgrade with only 128gb vs 256gb of storage. Phone is amazing for this moto edge. It has 256gb of storage, is quick in processing and doesn't lag. Performes and doesn't lag while doing it at all and fyi neither did the moto g stylus 2022 i replaced it with. It does delete the headphone jack but i didn't care for that being i have Bluetooth headphones anyways. Also you don't get a stylus as you do with the moto g stylus 2022 i replaced it with. I do like the display of the edge when I first got it i was amazed at the screen thinking it was an OLED but it is an LCD. The only complaint i had on this phone was for a better vibrating unit and for the bottom speaker to be a little louder i think it may have been going out not as loud as when new but maybe cause it fell out my car a few times it was losing volume on the speaker or maybe I'm just imagining cause sometimes it seemed just fine. I also had issues with the fingerprint reader on the edge but not on the moto g stylus 2022. Buy this phone or even the moto g stylus 2022 which is currently on sale for $169 on Amazon. I would gladly buy another Motorola phone any day which in fact i did. If only I never cracked the screen i would've never replaced this edge. ... show more

Some people mention weak battery, and some mention slow processing, while others mention fragility when reviewing the Moto Edge 2021. It's clear to me that they have defective units and should look to get them replaced under warranty, or they haven't optimized the settings to suite their usage. The unit I got is mind-blowing good. It's so good, in fact, that I don't understand how Moto doesn't knock Sammy off the podium. My battery is outstanding and nearly comparable to my "Rugged" phone which has a 6600 mah battery. The screen on the Edge '21 is an absolute stunner. The 144hz rate has now spoiled me to all other phones. And the processing power is more than capable for anything I do with it. As far as fragility goes.... Well, that will very from person to person. It's obviously not a Cat phone or a Ulefone, so don't treat it like one. Fragility is a price we all pay if we want sleek and sexy slivers of glass as our phones. If we want that trend to change, than we have to buy more "rugged" phones. For anyone who isn't impressed with this phone, try to change a couple settings; You have to manually enable the 144hz refresh rate in the settings. Also, you have to enable "Ram Boost" which makes available Ram go from 8gb to 10gb. These are the 2 greatest features of this phone that many people may not know about. One last thing you should know. The phone ships out with Android 11, but is immediately ready for an update to Android 12. So in reality this is an Android 12 phone, but the description doesn't mention this fact. Just another cherry on top of the sundae. Overall, I couldn't be more impressed with this phone, and nothing out there can touch it with this price point. I paid $299 on Amazon, and I feel guilty, as if I somehow scammed the seller. ***UPDATE 9/12/20 FOLLOWING MULTIPLE REPLACEMENT FAILURES*** Back when the Samsung S7 Edge came out, I wanted it so badly - but couldn't afford it. A few years later and my current LG V20 is starting to get a little slow, and a new EDGE is available for $500 (presale price)? I'm all over this! Both of my parents bought it as well (they were both using the Samsung S7 - not the Edge version - which at this point are largely unusable), so I have three separate experiences with the exact same phone to compare. NOW ACTUALLY FIVE AS OF 9/12/20. Initial physical setup was a breeze. The SIM card slot (which also houses the SD card, if you have one) pops right out with an enclosed pin. The SIM and SD card connector faces the back of the phone. Slide it right in, and you're all done. The phone booted up just fine, and was at about 70% charge when I received it. It's a BEAUTIFUL phone, with vibrant colors and VERY smooth operation of the screen. I miss the app drawer, but I can live without it. Initially I was unable to receive text messages on Verizon, although every other function worked perfectly in every way. All three Motorola Edges had the same problem - all on Verizon. After several days of troubleshooting, my dad reached level three tech support at Motorola, who tied in with level two tech support at Verizon, and they figured out that Verizon needed to "check, un-check, and re-check" "something" in our account settings in order for text messages to be received by our phones. Once Verizon completed this cycle, text messages were fully functional instantaneously for all three of us. I was hoping that was the only issue... alas, I was not so lucky. A few days later, the screen started to develop a purple "bruise" on the left side, as described by MANY other reviewers. The next morning it was back to normal, but by the end of the day it was doing it again, and was worse than the prior evening. The next morning it was back to normal again, but 30 minutes later the bruise showed up again. I called Motorola tech support that afternoon. I had some difficulty understanding the woman I spoke with due to her accent, but I understood the majority of what she said. I was told that software technicians are aware of the problem and are working on a patch in the lab, and that when it is done it will be pushed to the phones automatically. I asked for a timeline, and was informed that they cannot say - which makes sense because you don't want to open a liability door for misleading customers, but at the same time I really needed an answer in some form. No answer was to be had, though. This was two days ago. By that evening, the lower left part of the screen was entirely blacked out, the bruise had spread to covering most of the left half of the screen, and had started on the right side as well. The next morning it was better, but only half-way so. Again the phone was unusable by that evening - which was last night. This morning the phone had improved by maybe only 25-30%. By 1:30 pm, not only were parts of the screen blacked out, but the bottom of the screen started flashing white and was non-responsive to touch (see attached pictures and video). I completed a master reset on my Motorola Edge, but the problem still persisted even after the phone was erased. At that point, I requested a replacement from Amazon. Thankfully my LG V20 still works just fine, so I have a fully functional backup until the new phone arrived. As my dad says, such a high failure rate is unexpectedly high for a new product launch. OTHER than this debilitating screen issue, I LOVE the phone - as do both of my parents. -------------------- FIRST EDIT The first phone lasted one week before the failure as described above. The replacement lasted two weeks before the "bruise" showed up. By this time my dad's Edge had also started to fail. My mom's Edge, however, is still going strong. So the failure rate is now 75% (two for me, and dad's). Review is demoted from 3 stars to 1. If the screen doesn't work, the phone doesn't work. The phone is otherwise literally perfect. But if you can't use it, then it doesn't work. Period. I returned the replacement for a full refund. I'm heartbroken. -------------------- SECOND EDIT My dad's replacement Edge lasted less than 2 weeks before that screen started to fail. Out of the FIVE Motorola Edge phones from me, my dad, and my mom, only my mom's has yet to develop screen failure. That is a whopping EIGHTY PERCENT failure rate. Both me and my dad have reverted back to our old phones, and will be shopping for a new NON-Motorola midrange phone soon. ... show more

I read all the negative reviews and I didn't really give them a second thought because every phone I looked at seemed to have its fare share of hecklers. Let me tell you from the start, I'm not paid for this. I'm just an average Joe that just upgraded from a Galaxy S7 that I bought when they came out so that is the context. The boxing was well done and I noticed quickly that the USB cable is different then the micros USB cables so be aware if this is a thing for you. I think it will probably help with the turbo charging but I'm not sure. With any luck these new cables will be less liable to become defective as quick as the other annoying micros USB cords do. When I plugged it in I was shocked to see the cool power level indicators flow up the edges. It gave me that Techy Tingle (giggle). I was excited to move forward. I powered the device up and was blown away at the vivid colors of the screen and wow the edge of the display is so impressive. The default back drop with the waves and sand moving. Oh my. I must move forward and see more. I went through the wizard and did all the setup. Pretty basic stuff and since I used Google Backup it was pretty straight forward. A new feature on this phone that took some getting used to is the new method you use to go home, show previous apps, currently running apps, back, forward etc. There is a a tutorial that walks you through it and I adapted pretty quickly to no longer having that button at the boom of my phone. Plus the screen real-estate is HUGE and ridiculously sharp. The first App I fired up was my YouTube Music. Everything restored perfectly and I was blown away at the sound quality of the speakers at the top and bottom of the phone. It really takes this phone to an entirely new level. Another thing I really appreciate is that this phone has a headphone jack. I don't want to be tied to wireless earbuds because those tend to run out of juice but if your are a Bluetooth ear bud fan then you are still good to go. If you run out of ear bud juice then switch over to wired just like that. The next thing I started to play with is the camera. WOW. My S7 only had an 8MP camera. This is 64MP if I recall. Totally Insane. There is also a ton of storage on this baby with 256 Gig of storage. No more getting half way through that recital only to find you are out of space and your video or pictures are cut short. This phone is roughly the same width as my S7 not including the extra edge roll effect which adds easily another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to the width. The height is about another inch but when you add that the entire top to bottom is filled with screen you probably are easily at almost 2" of extra top to bottom height. I got the black model and it has some blue/purple reflection from the light. It is so very stylish that I am going to have a tough time finding the right case because I want to show the elegance of this superb design. About the only Con I have right now is that my son wants to use this for his YouTube video recording and wants to borrow it for video games all the time. Some folks have talked about shaded areas or bubbles in their screen. I didn't see any of this and I looked very close but I will keep my eye on it and I will use my warranty if needed but I'm not worried. PS. Don't forget to open the user manual box because the pin to open the top is in there. This will allow you to add your sim card and memory chip when you get to your cellular carrier. (Aug 14 update) Replacement received on four days ago. I've been using the phone every day and it's working fine so far. I had a scare when I notice a portion of the screen "bruised" purple, but it was only the wallpaper. I'm starting to use the features of the phone and like it more every day. My first impressions are all positive with a few hiccups here and there but nothing I can't live with. I have not returned the original device as I've been waiting for the weekend. It's been powered off for days, so I turned it on two days ago. It was like it was brand new again and the screen issues were gone... all of them. However, within the hour, one by one, all previous screen issues came to say hello. Again, this is in the original faulty phone. The new phone is working fine so far. Wife's phone "is still nice and cool." Will do another update once I test the replacement phone over the weekend. (Aug 8, 2020 - Original post) TL:DR - Bought a phone for me and one for my wife. She loves hers and is working fine. Mine went from bad to worse to completely unusable by day 5. Pictures included here show the progression of the screen problems. I will update this review when I receive and use my replacement phone. ------- Since I have not used my phone much and my wife is pretty much happy with hers because "it looks cool and it works," I will focus my review on my experience so far. I have not been able to use the phone for too long due to terrible screen issues., so here is a day by day summary. Note that we only use the included plastic cover and no screen protector, so nothing has been used other than what came in the box. Day 1 - Phone looked awesome straight out of the box. Coming from the original Google Pixel (4 years old), this was quite an improvement. We used to have Motorola devices for the previous two before the Pixel. Setup of the device was a walk in the park, and all data was restored properly from the old phones. The default start-up screen and the default live wallpaper (waves) showed an amazing display! Both phones were able to send SMS messages, but would not receive them. Looks like it was a problem on Verizon's side and a quick chat with their support desk fixed the issue. Wife's phone had no issues after that. Mine had trouble updating Google Chrome (it would just not start it) and would not back up the phone even after several hours. I could not fix either issue on day 1. Day 2 - Not even 24 hours of usage, and the screen started to show a green tint under low light. This was obvious when compared to my wife's. After googling the issue, I found out that this was a common problem with the Edge+ and since they use the same screen hardware, well, same issue. It did not bug me too much though. The same day but later, I noticed a faint "burned-in" square at the bottom of the screen when any color other than white was on that area. I rebooted the phone and it was still visible during the start-up screen. After chatting with Lenovo support and posting in the forums, the square was suspected to be a detached fingerprint sensor since it appeared in the exact same spot where the fingerprint icon shows to unlock the phone. The suggestion was to request a replacement though Amazon since I had only had the phone for two days. By night, the "green tinting" of the screen was worse and some menus were very faint. I did a factory reset just to see what happened. Obviously, nothing was magically fixed, but I was now able to update Chrome and my device was backing up. Day 3 - Alas, I woke up and when I looked at my phone, I saw a small "purple bruise" on the left edge of the screen. I had never dropped the phone, so I wondered what that was. A Google search confirmed that this was another known issue with the Edge+ screen and now the Edge. Just my luck. Now I had a "square" and a "bruise" Interesting enough, the "bruise" was expanding through out the day. What was a small spot on the edge had now migrated to the main screen area. Day 4 - I woke up and looked at my phone. It all looked the same... square and bruise. As I used the phone, the "bruise" would expand and contract from time to time. As the day went by, the "bruise" ended up taking a third of the screen (left side). At one point, the "bruise" shrunk, and the screen started showing "ghosting" images (see picture). I needed to run errands, so I jumped into my car and fired up Google Maps. During my drive, the screen started to flash rapidly, so I turned the phone off. When I got to a store, I started up the phone, and now half of the screen was bright white. When I got home, I tried to use the phone, and the entire screen was now bright white and flashing and it didn't sense my touch. If I left the phone resting for a while, I was able to unlock it and use it for a minute, then the bright white screen and the flashing continued and I was unable to use the phone. That's where I am today. Wife is happy with her phone, so at least I have that going for me, but my personal experience has been completely frustrating. Updated 4.6.21... I have been reading all defects this phone can have, so far I have none. Battery last a long time even though I use my phone for hours. It doesn't get that hot, just a little warm. Fingerprints can't get any faster (but what do we know about Technology) that last Samsung Galaxy I got just to register my fingerprints was a problem... The volume of this phone is awesome I love how high and clear it is.. Not Samsung for sure, Samsung volume sucks. Screen quality is good, excellent, clear and vibrant so far I have have no problems, I am checking for any imperfection on the screen. So far I love it. It came with the the tool to open the slot, did not see it at first. (First review) I have to finish setting up, but what I have tried I really like it. I don't know how sound quality or battery life yet but I will update my comment once I hear the sound and see how long battery last. One of the things I noticed and because I needed it to be able to enter my sim card is that it doesn't come with a tool to open the slot. Boo Moto. Not earbuds either.. and the case is the cheapest case I have ever seen..my God give us good accessories and more for the price you ask.. 3 boos for you. Other than that I lOVE THE PHONE. Update 4.19.22 I still love my phone all features are perfect, except for camera. The pictures resolution is that great. Moto One has a picture resolution so clear I love it. I will keep my moto edge until moto comes out with another cell phone with another excellent camera like moto one ... show more
